Forgotten Legends52: Jack Brisco
Yes, the brother of the famed crony of Mr Mcmahon Gerald Brisco is the one I am talking about. Frankly, That is how i knew of him as I started watching wrestling mid attitude era until I started to care to find out more.
Debuting in 1965, he was a huge of fan of Lou Thesz and became the first native american winning NCAA wrestling national championship before entering professional wrestling. He won the title of junior heavyweight title from NWA within months from Don Kent also winning a couple of other state titles incl. tag titles with Haystack Calhoun. He then moved on to CWF winning the tag and southern heavyweight title of NWA quickly. He was joined by his brother and went on to win the TV and tag title of the promotion again. His first win of NWA world heavyweight title was from Harley Race though it should have been from Dory Funk Jr who had an accident which he eventually lost to Giant Baba creating history, winning it back and eventually dropping it to Terry Funk. The Funk and Briscos feuded throughout this time across territories. He had a short run in indies winning the likes of Jerry Lawler and Bob Backlund for various NWA heavyweight titles before returning to CWF to win the tag title teaming with his brother winning various championships which they continued in other promotions making him a tag team legend. He was considered one of the legends of the wrestling by the likes of Ric Flair and Hogan (who the Brisco brothers discovered, sent for training and brought out) for his wrestling skills. With over 53 titles to his name of which 26 were tag title runs, he is one forgotten legend. |
Re: Forgotten Legends52: Jack Brisco
Funny this one should come up today as just yesterday I was watching his matches against Bill Watts and Baba on youtube, really excellent old-school style work from Brisco, havent seen much of his career but everyone I have seen has been impressive, really liked the stuff with the Funks.
Anyone got suggestions of more matches by him to watch? |
Re: Forgotten Legends52: Jack Brisco
Wasn't he one of the ass-kissers of Vince?

Jack Brisco is Gerry Brisco's older (and much better) brother. Jack was one of the best wrestlers in the 70s/80s and also a great tag team with his brother Gerald Brisco. Jack's most notable rivalry was his classic series with Dory Funk Jr. Jack was the NWA World's Heavyweight Champion with a run in the early 70s feuding with Harley Race and Terry Funk. He's a pro wrestling legend with notable work in NWA, Japan, and even had a little tag stint with his brother in WWF. ![]() |
