Owen Hart wins WWF title

So, almost everyone agrees that Owen Hart deserved better than what he got in his final years with the company and shouldn't have been given the Blue Blazer gimmick, rather a title run. But what a lot of people don't know (and neither did I until about a month ago), is that he did win the WWF title from Bret Hart at a House Show during their feud back in the mid 90's. It was a Lumber Jack match, which saw Owen defeat Bret Hart the reigning champion at the time, celebrate with the Lumberjacks in the ring and after about five minutes the match was restarted and Bret won it back, here it is.

Now what I do'nt understand and hopefully someone can help me out here, is why the WWE doesn't accept or acnowlege that he is a former champion putting him in the list of champions?

At first I thought, okay, maybe House Show title changes aren't accepted as real wins cause they aren't on world wide telivision, however, correct me if I am wrong but back a couple of years the Unified Tag Team titles changed hands at a house show overseas and the new champs came out with the belts, not the old ones and so did the womens title sometime back in 06' and if my memory serves me correctly it was Mickie James (could be wrong though, but my point is that they have done it before).

Then I thought, well maybe it's because the match was overulled and repeated, he never really had a "run" with the title. But many champions had the belt for only mere mintues and were accepted as former champions, in fact there are probably a dozen of them and more recently Dolph Ziggler.

Another cool little fact is this would have also been the only time the WWE title changed hands in a Lumberjack match.

So long story short, why on earth isn't this accepted by the WWE? and what are your thoughts about this lost matchup and peice of footage.

It's not acknowledged just like Jericho beating HHH for the title on Raw in 2000 isn't acknowledged, as they reversed that decision.

I would guess it's because the match was "restarted".....Bret was not given an immediate rematch or anything....they threw out the ending from the match and it continued.

As an aside, it's too bad that Bret feud was Owen's only real main event run. He dropped right down to the midcard and tag division after that feud was over, and basically stayed there for the rest of his career. He should've been a main event fixture for the next several years. He was very over as a heel, and awesome in the ring, and effective on the mic. Once Michaels went face, Owen should've been the top heel.

That's not a house show, there's commentary but yeah I see what you're getting at. I'd never seen this footage before, very cool stuff.

Wow good find. I never knew that existed and its too clear to be a house show. My guess is that restarts don't count.

RVD pinned Undertaker in 2002 for the Undisputed Championship but it was reversed. Its happened at least a half dozen times. Let's not forget also The Rockers winning the tag team straps and never acknowledging it officially.

This match was taped on 08/17/1994 for one of WWF's Coliseum Video releases titled "Wham Bam Bodyslam!"

The match was actually ordered to continue and Bret ultimately picked up the victory so Owen didn't win the World Wrestling Federation Championship. With that said, this is a cool moment and solid match like all Bret/Owen matches.

Here's the full match - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1q...title-lu_sport

Nice bit of info CLique, I was certain it was a house show or some overseas event. I read something about it being so by some youtube comment under the video, guess they were wrong.

Damn, never seen that clip before but it was cool to see him celebrating with the belt. Really wish he won it at some point in his career. He deserved it.

The only time I think a WWF Title reign would have worked for Owen was strictly during his feud with Bret.

I agree. I know a lot of people think if he never died he would have won it eventually, but I understood why they would think that besides them romaticizing him.
