Why didn't HBK wrestle on the card at WWF In Your House 11: Buried Alive?
He was WWF Champion at the time and was the WWF's "Golden Boy", you would think they would have him wrestle the Main Event, if not, then on the card somewhere! I heard he wrestled Goldust in a dark match or something, which is weird.

I think it was just stupid booking at the time, it was a card that had a few heel vs heel matches and only featured very few faces on it (I could be wrong, read this a while ago) and it was just a really really strange card.

Re: Why didn't HBK wrestle on the card at WWF In Your House 11: Buried Alive?
I didn't think it was that stupid.
It was a B PPV that had a big grudge match to main event in Taker Vs. Mankind.
Also, there was a Number One Contenders Match on the show between Sid & Vader.
And keep in mind that the In Your House PPVs were only two hours back then and much cheaper (like 11 bucks I think).
Why force a World Title match into the equation when Shawn doesn't have anybody to face at the moment? Give him the night off, give some other stories time to develop, and build from there to the bigger title matches.
The World Title does NOT have to be defended at every single PPV. That is a maddening misconception that we need to move away from and go back to making the World Title matches something special rather than an expected occurrence. If they happen all the time (more than once a month a lot of the time) then how can they be sold as larger than life attractions?

Why should they if he is drawing them money?
Vince will only let him change sides once they find a suitable replacement for him as a new merchandise salesperson. Just because the IWC doesn't like it (who don't even budge his wallet nad download everything they see/get) doesn't mean he should change it, think business wise for a little bit. It's not like Punk or Bryan are selling at Cena's level yet.

HBK missing PPVs in 1996 & 1997
He was a top worker back then and he was still missing PPV's, while guys like: Austin. Bret. Manking. Taker. Would not miss any PPV's. I can understand in 1997 when HBK has his knee injury, but even when he returned he was not wrestling every PPV, which is odd for a top star.
It's funny, because when he came back in 2002, after he got comfortable he basically started to wrestle at every PPV. Even though he was older he seemed more humble and willing to fight whoever, it was awesome.

Odd - Not for HBK back then, what was it Nash said "He was like a school teacher, liked to take the summer off".

Re: It surprises me that HBK missed so much PPV's in 1996 & 1997
Shawn back in the 90's wasn't the same Shawn that came back in 2002, he was very hard to work with, had a lot of drink and drug problems, he was basically an ass.
It doesn't surprises me that he missed so much work like the post about says he liked to take the summer off, he liked to work when he wanted and with who he wanted, if he didn't get his way he would take his ball and go home, and thats shows with his title runs, he won 14 titles in wwe overall, he forfeited 6 of those titles for one reason or another, from getting injured to just not wanted to do the job for someone else.

Re: HBK missing PPVs in 1996 & 1997
The In Your House PPVs weren't really supposed to feature all of the top tier superstars. The In Your House PPVs were sold at a slightly cheaper rate (initially to test the market for a full schedule of twelve PPVs a year), so they never wanted to put all their best talent out at once. Occassions like that were saved for the bigger events of the year.

Re: HBK missing PPVs in 1996 & 1997
Shawn didn't really 'need' to wrestle those early In Your House PPVs as Champion. He didn't have a feud going into Buried Alive, so they just set up his #1 contender with Sid vs Vader. He fought Goldust in a dark match for the live crowd, though.
As far as missing shows in 1997, chalk that up to the whole knee injured/not injured debacle. He wrestled at the Rumble, beating Sid for the gold, and then didn't wrestle until KOTR against Austin, five months later. After that, he and Bret had their little lover's quarrel fight in the dressing room and he took off, missing the Canadian Stampede PPV. When he returned, he reffed the Bret/Taker Summerslam match and started the feud with Taker. Rest is history.
Shawn being Shawn.
