I'd have to agree with everyone who says Ric Flair. Ric Flair will always be to me as well as many others "The Man" but after 2008 when he retired he really tarnished his legacy. He looks horrible now, his matches suck and he just didnt fit in TNA.

Ric Flair could have returned to a permanent managerial role after his retirement but he wanted to get back into the ring.

Now, I hear Ric Flair wants to be in The Hangover 3, if this happens I will cry. The Ric Flair I remember would never have done that. I was born in 1991 but I have watched Ric Flair's matches in the 70's and 80's and his promo's and matches were gold. Some of my favorite matches are Flair vs Steamboat.

Lawyler hasn't ruined his legacy? He doesn't do it for the money. Unfortunately theirs lots IMO who have but the industry is a sleazy business and most get caught up in it, its best to leave it on your own terms like The Rock IMO.

OMG WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS FORUM BOB BACKLUND
the man went from a guy who never lost the wwf championship for 5 years clean to a guy who then, years later, ruined his legacy by re-signing just to get squashed at wm in the shortest ever wwf championship match in history. I want any of you guys to top that

Kane. Where do I begin?

How about the fact that he isn't Kane? He hasn't acted as Kane in 10 years. I'm not just talking about the mask ruining his character but also the fact that he isn't referred to as the 'big red machine' anymore. The way he doesnt do those situps after hes been knocked out. The way hes more than happy to job to everybody tarnishing that scary 1997 monster. The guy lost a loser takes off mask match and then he decides to take his shirt off aswell and his wig. He had one of the coolest gimmicks and attires in wrestling history and he ruins it. His current attire is awful. He looks like a bondage slave and it doesnt disguise the fact that he tarnished his legacy by revealing his stupid Homer Simpson face. Then there is his wrestling matches which are just plain tedious. His moveset is more limited than John Cena. Sidewalk slam-pin for 2 count- clothesline from top rope-look for the chokeslam. Fucking boring. Oh and he hasn't had a great match since Judgement Day 2001. Everything since then has been poor or mediocre. Go on tell me i'm wrong.

I wish every wrestler from the AE well but not this guy. Please Glenn I know you'r a nice intelligent guy but please get the fuck off my screen. It may be too late to save Kane's reputation but you can still save me from boredom.

I feel like I couldn't disagree more (respectfully, of course). The Kane character would have gotten stale as hell if he had never gotten past the voice-box, head-turning, glove-grabbing monster--I'm not saying at all that wasn't him at his best, but at some point some changes do need to happen. Seriously, how much longer do you think the scary, masked, fire-wielding monster could have gone on for reasonably? Unmasked Kane tends to get a bad rep, but only because he had to live up to 1997-1999 standards--trying to look at it objectively, there were definitely some amazing moments during his unmasked era (and personally, I liked it a lot--he had menacing evil moments on-par with stuff from the AE). The one thing I can agree on is that while there's a time and place for Kane to be funny, I don't think he should ever be a comedy character (the man's practically on a Santino/R-Truth level currently).

But all this is really beside the point if you're talking "legacy." I could understand if Glenn as a person went the Scott Hall/Roddy Piper route and showed up to everything intoxicated, but the man has stayed faithfully committed to a character for 15 years now and is one of the most respected, professional guys in WWE. Hell, even Taker got a break from the Deadman gimmick for a few years--would you say his legacy is tarnished because he wasn't Taker? Most of what you say regarding Kane's "legacy" just comes down to you not liking his attires, move-sets, and face as well as the fact that he hasn't been doing the exact same gimmick for 15 years. Also, you complain about his limited, repetitive moveset, yet you don't like how he doesn't do the "sitting up" thing anymore? Because that would never get stale...It's astounding to me how you claim that in 11 years ("since 2001"), he hasn't had ONE single match that was better than "mediocre." Even someone who absolutely despises everything about Kane could manage to find one good match.

And I'm pretty sure that he's constantly referred to as the "Big Red Monster" even today. Admittedly, I'm not sure if he's still referred to as the "Big Red Machine" but we're just splitting hairs at that point.

I'm not a fan of Taker's gimmick or hell the Undertaker for that matter but he did put on great Mania matches. Kane just half arses it week in week out. Why complain? He gets paid a great amount for being average and compared to HHH or Taker he hasn't had the same workload or the same amount of hardcore matches. I respect Taker but I dont respect Kane. All I feel is anger when I see him. I see 10 years of mediocrity. I disagree that masked Kane would of got old. There is always going to be a new generation of audience. Taking off the mask would be like Rey Mysterio unmasking. There's character development and then there is destroying the character.

I look at "ruined legacy" as tarnishing everything before the fuckery now being tainted and not a factor anymore.
The only person I can ever say that about is Benoit. Flair being a drunken old man and still wrestling, or at least attempting to, doesn't stop me from appreciating the shit he's done historically. Same goes for Hogan even though I just recently became a fan of his despite being a wrestling fan for 20 years.
