Forgotten Legends16: Bob Backlund
Yes, the same guy who lost in 8 seconds to Diesel at MSG for which he would be most likely remembered in this generation other than his feud with Bret Hart.
Much before that, he was to Vince Mcmahon Sr what Hulk Hogan was to Vince Mcmahon Jr. The face of the company, the reliable and over guy for WWWF and held the WWWF heavyweight title for it's second longest reign.
He also wrestling Harley Race to time limit draw in WWWF vs NWA title match up other than facing Nick Bockwinkel for AWA and Ric Flair for NWA being the face for WWWF. He lost out on the survival race in the Rock and wrestling era before fading out completely in Attitude era being remembered only for losing out in 8 seconds and snapping before putting people in Chicken wing cross face.
With 11 titles to his name and being a member of Professional wrestling and Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame, WWE is yet to induct him, the organization he helped build and spent most of his career in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The name in the thread title was a genuine oversight, inexcusable in a thread dedicated to his legend, sincere apologies to Mr BACKLAND and all his fans.

It's Bob fucking Backland you ignorant fuckwit.
Yeah, he is a forgotten legend though, so kudos for the thread. I would have thought you'd at least spell his name right in a dedicated thread to him.

Agreed with him. This guy should've feuded with Hogan & WM 1 would be Backlund Vs Hogan WWF title. That would be awesome feud. Heel Piper was No.1 Heel bak then

From a marketing point of view... No. Vince did the right thing of making Backlund drop the title to the hated iranian Iron Sheik who later coudl drop it to Hogan.

I think it had more to do with Bob refusing to job to Hogan who was not technically gifted and hence a transitional champion was needed.

Heard that rumor as well, thought he'll lose title 2 Hogan in 83 instead

Re: Forgotten Legends16: Bob Buckland
Backlund . Love his matches with Valentine (60 minute Broadway in '79), Slaughter (2 epic, epic bouts in '81, not a fan of their later matches. Never thought much of Slaughter until these matches), Muraco (yes, great matches with Don Muraco!) and Adrian Adonis (like Slaughter, never thought much of Adonis until his matches with Backlund. Legit classics). Just wish his match with Flair wasn't lost in time .

Also him Vs Bret Hart Survivor Series 94 when Bret was in chicken-wing crossface for 8-10 minutes. But he lost 2 Diesel which sucked. That should've been Razor Ramon's opportunity 2 win WWF title next. I think Backlund would've kept title until Rumble 95 & Razor 2 win it, then HBK wins Rumble sets up Razor-HBK title match with Bret-Backlund submission match
