Re: Macho Man Randy Savage?
I'm not saying he is underrated now. Now people see that he was one of the best, if not the best, of the era. I meant back during the era he was in. I feel he should have been equal to Hogan if not over Hogan. He connected with the crowd. People were always watching him and Miss Elizabeth. The reunion of the two brought tears to women's eyes everywhere. So Sayeth the Macho Man Ooooh Yeah!

Re: Macho Man Randy Savage?
As good and great Savage was, I never saw him equal to Hogan. I rate Warrior more equal to Hogan in his prime than Savage ever was. Yet Savage def makes it to the top 20 list of all time wrestlers. and in that list I rate guys like
Hogan, Austin, Rock, Undertaker, HBK, Inoki, Sammartino, Race, Flair, Andre, Warrior, Backlund, Rhodes, Cena, Thesz, Riki Chosu, and a few that temporary slips my mind. So in my opinion, he def makes it to that list. But equal to Hogan is like saying he was equal to Austin and Rock, and that I do not agree to.

No he was not underrated and overlooked at all.....he was a major star. How could he be overlooked?

What's with these terrible titles for threads?
Yes, I would say that he was underrated and overlooked in that era. He wrestled in a period where guys with huge muscles were in the spotlight.
However, now he is considered one of the best ever.

Posts like this make me wonder if you were even around back in his era. If anything, he may have gotten slightly underrated over time because the WWE never acknowledges him like they do other legends.
But he was not overlooked whatsoever back then. He was one of the major stars and everyone knew it. You are way off on this.

Wrong. He was in the spotlight as much as, or more than anyone not named Hogan.

Re: Macho Man Randy Savage?
Macho Man is one of the greatest of all time and top 10 in every list, every era or every category. I don't think that even one fan who saw his work, don't know how great he was in everything he did and how big he was as an iconic wrestler and even a mainstream star. Savage will always be top 10.

Re: Macho Man Randy Savage?
One of the best ever, I'd place him top 10 easily, probably number 7 or 8 for me personally but just a phenomenal talent all round. Almost untouchable on the mic, great in the ring, great look and a real larger than life presence. I'm 21 and really wish I was a decade older so I could have watched Savage in his prime first hand rather than just watching his stuff on youtube and the awesome Macho Madness DVD set.

No he wasn't overrated or underutilised at all. As others have said he was a major star, always in the spotlight no matter where he was in the card, always high status and very over. He always got plenty of time on the mic and plenty of time with his feuds.
I disagree he should've been over Hogan. No one should've. I didn't like Hogan's act as much as Savage's, but Hogan was the golden goose and a licence to print money, so you'd be a fool to mees with that.
Maybe he could've had another good program with Hogan at the top in WWF, but their mega powers breakup was so awesome why bother.
I just loved the way he could turn into such a madman when people messed with him. It made him so much more of a threat, that he would do anything. He wrote the book on selling, and building up the heat in blood feuds (see Hogan in 89 and Jake Roberts and Flair in 92).
