Not sure how many of you have seen or noticed but Bad News Brown/Bad News Allen act was a precursor to Austin where he does not obey rules, does what he wants, was neither a heel nor a face right upto the old school wrestling trunks, shaven head and black wrist strips except that he was ahead of his time and was not in Vince's good books. Your thoughts? Was there some precursor to him for a tweener?
Someone before Austin disobeyed the rules? Someone before Austin wore black trunks? Someone before Austin shaved their head? Oh my goodness! I thought he invented all of these.
Sandman drank beer and swore before Austin too. Big deal. Everything in wrestling has been done before. It's not about being original, although if you're lucky enough and CAN find something that's never been done before, then do it, it's about perfecting the act. People want to see the character portrayed excellently whether it's original or not.
However, I do believe Austin was the first person to ever feud with the boss character, but I could be wrong. Feel free to correct. I know Bischoff was part of the nWo but I don't think anybody ever feuded with Bischoff specifically.

There was a lot of stuff Austin stole from WCW but as Pyro said it's not really about being original. Wrestling has always been 10% what you do and 90% the way you do it, most of them have been told what type of character they're suppose to have anyway. All about delivery.

I think your right. Even when Flair began feuding with him it was after the Austin McMahon feud was already underway. I suppose technically the outsiders when they first came in were kind of feuding with Bischoff but it obviously didnt last long and clearly did not have the affect that the Austin McMahon feud had.
I think Austin is the kinda guy who could have flourished regardless of what gimmick they gave him. The thing about Austin's gimmick is that it was actually a half of a reflection on the way he actually was (beer drinking, hunting, ass kicking red neck.) Austin was just great at playing his role that's why he was popular.
