Starrcade 97...how would you have booked the ending and Bret Hart?

As we all know, Starrcade 97 had the most fucked up ending ever. It brutally sucked. It was supposed to be huge but it just was horrible. So I ask you all, my fellow old schoolers...how would you have booked it?

But remember, you also have just signed Bret Hart. Sadly he came with only like 3 weeks untill the event so he had no proper time to build up for a match. So try and use him in your plans aswell.

What I would have done:

Leave Bret off the Bish/Larry Z match. This match did not need a special ref.

For Bret, promote the crap out of him on the Nitros before. Just say it will be his first appearance since the screwjob and he will speak about it. He can come out and cut a promo.

As for the main event. I would just have sting win cleanly. Now if Hogan really didnt want to put Sting over clean, I would just have had an nwo member accident hit Hogan or something and the Sting get the win.

Then after the match, Bret comes down and says "I am the real wwf champion and im challanging you champ vs champ" This can lead to Bret vs Sting at superbrawl. And at Souled out you could do Bret/Sting vs Hogan/Savage just for a blockbuster match as Brets debut.

Just my opinion, but I thought the New World Order after 1997 was absolutely horrible, and Black and White vs. Wolfpac was as bad as it gets. That being said, Starrcade 1997 should have began the eventual disbanding of the NWO. They defeated everyone they went up against, they won every title, and had about 25 members.

A year long buildup with one of the most interesting and perfectly done character transformations in Sting. After being made a mockery of (fake Sting), toyed with, egged on, finally Sting gets Hogan. Sting should have defeated Hogan cleanly without any bullshit false ending (ruined everything). Sure, let's blame that on Hogan's ego, because I'm sure that no one will deny it wasn't all on him.

Sting wins clean, without any Bret Hart involvement, leading to the NWO disbanding, which should have been forever. No 15 other versions of it. Next night on Nitro, Hogan blames the rest of the NWO for not coming to his aid. Sting got into their heads. They were terrified of him, and stayed back, instead of having the same fates as Hogan. Hollywood is disgusted, especially with Hall and Nash. Back and forth, they didn't have his back, and they are gone from the NWO. (Continue the tag team, until the eventual split. Just no shitty faction feuds)

While Hogan feels everyone let him down, they believe that he let them down, filling their head with bullshit, leading a war against WCW, and he was unable to get the job done. Hogan is all alone as the rest drift off.

Option A.) Sting beats the shit out of Hogan in 5 minutes to win the title.

or

Option B.) Sting beats the shit out of Hogan, gets raked in the eyes with Hogan getting some offense in for awhile, Sting makes his comeback and beats Hogan for the belt.
No BS finish. Just Hogan giving up with Bret Hart making the call as referee from the start. With each option in a perfect booking world, that's how the match should've gone down.

the match sucked because at that point Hogan couldn;t wrestle decent, it was all about the drama. however as soon as the finish came all build up towards it and sting an all were just flushed through the toilet. After 97 nWo contnued until wcw dying days. politics for sure.

It's funny Hogan found the 'motivation' to give damn good matches VS The Rock (02) and HBK (05), maybe it had something to do with Sting being ring-rusty too, as he was supposed to be the one that was going to dominate the match,

Just WCW being WCW im afraid, Bret Hart said it right, One thing WCW didn't have was Vince.

Totally agree

Sure Hogan played his backstage politics a bit. But not entirely without a reason. Sting had lost a lot of musclemass and seemed out of shape compared to how he looked earlier. He even did not bother hitting the tanning beds.

If I was Hogan. The biggest thing in wrestling up to that point. I sure as hell, if I wanted to put someone over, I could at least demand that the other bloke should commit and stay in shape.

Quite simply i would have had Bret Hart come out a couple of weeks before Starrcade and say as he knows all about being screwed in the biggest match of the year he has been made as the special guest referee for Sting/Hogan at Starrcade. I would have had the match be exactly the same from start through to the fast count which under no circumstances should have ever happened and i would have had Sting make the comeback, put Hollywood Hogan in the Scorpion Deathlock and get the win which would then see all the WCW wrestlers come down to celebrate.

I think 1997 was the height of Stings abuse problems so that might explain it. Not saying it was ok but just saying.

It's a really simple bit of booking, Hogan and Sting get 20 mins, Sting starts strong, Hogan gets the upper hand, Sting comes back to win.

If you want to gimmick the match, here's the easy way to do it. Nick Patrick tries to fast-count/slow-count in Hogans favour throughout the match (and doesn't fuck it up) but Sting gets out clean from every fast count attempt. Sting comes back strong at the end, hits the Scorpion Death Drop and Patrick just refuses to bring his hand down for the three. Hogan gets back up, puts Sting in a submission hold, Nick looks like he's going to 'ring the fucking bell' but before he can, Sting powers out and puts Hogan in the Scorpion Deathlock and he taps clean.

No Bret Hart interference, Sting goes over as a strong babyface and Bret comes in in the new year to challenge him for the title while the nWo, realising that not only have they lost but that they aren't even in the main event anymore start to disintegrate under the pressure. By June '98 the nWo is completely broken and Hogan has one last face run before actually retiring properly and doing his farewell job to Goldberg at Starrcade '98.

And while I'm at it, I'd like a pony.
