I think it's a really over-rated segment, then again it is the highest rated segment in Raw history so it must of had its appeal.

You really think Vince would turn down matches The Rock wanted? Come on.

If Rock wanted to work with Maven, then we'd get what he wanted. It's The Rock.

Rock wrestling any of those men on a WM would do big business, and that is what Vince cares about most.

Rock doesn't come back to wrestle or whatever for any Joe Blogs.

Cena should be honoured.

The fact that it was the 20th anniversary of the show and it was held at MSG meant the Rock just had to be there.

I'm not sure how those matches Rock proposed would've worked out because his schedule might've effected the build up and the number of dates he could work but if he had got a huge program that he wanted, I think he would've been able to work it out like this year. Rock getting his win back over Goldberg would've been nice.

I'm pissed he didn't propose Rock/HBK. Vince might've been convinced but he said it back in 05 that he never wanted a program with HBK.
Never heard about Rock/Goldberg and Rock/Hogan for WM20, Rock/Goldberg was the plan for WM19 but Goldberg signed too late so they did another Rock/Austin and Rock stayed for another month to wrestle Goldberg. That was a time where Rock himself chose the opponents he wanted to wrestle because he knew his days as a full time pro wrestler are coming to an end. Flair is another one, but that was on TV(Rock/Flair should have been at WM20)

Rock/Savage is Rock's dream match and wanted to do it in 2004 but Vince with all his issues wasn't going to go with it, or at least, with all his heart to bring Savage back, just imagine a Rock/Macho Man program and a match in MSG...

As for Rock/Sock/Evolution, they started to build it from December 2003, with Foley and Orton and Rock's surprise return to help Foley, that was THE money match at WM20 despite the position on the card. They closed all the shows when Rock was there.

Yeah, Cena should be grateful big time.

TBH, the best part of that segment was HHH jobbing to the balloons in the ring.

We don't know the details behind why those matches were turned down. For all we know, there could be other issues too like the terms Vince was on with others but it was reported in the Observer and the Observer is the best source out there. I'm not saying this is completely accurate though.

Prior to WrestleMania XX, The Rock and Pat Patterson (who has helped guide
the Rock's career) proposed to Vince McMahon a "dream match." The Rock
wanted to return for a match against Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, or Randy Savage,
but Vince McMahon wanted him to do something with Mick Foley. McMahon also
apparently had no interest in having The Rock go against Hogan or Savage.

The Rock told friends he enjoyed working 'Mania but that it was weird since
the same guys he worked with for years in WWE were now coming up to him
asking him for pictures and treating him differently.

Rock/Goldberg did pretty poor business given the expectations they had BTW (350, 000 buys with expectations being around 500, 000) though business was really down that year so you can't really blame them that much and the undercard was pretty poor too with a jobber challenging Brock and no world title match.

To be fai, when they went at it for Cena, it was meant to be a trainwreck to endear the audience to Cena (who was selling it as such through facial expressions.) Unfortunately it was so much of a trainwreck that it did the exact opposite. An utterly abhorrent segment; you couldn't even laugh at it.

I don't remember where I read it but a giant Rock poster was supposed to fall when Foley said "THIS IS YOUR LIFE!" but they ruined it somehow and the poster was stuck in the air.

I think Dave meant Sting there, not Hogan. No chance that they were going to do Rock/Hogan 3 after Rock beat him twice and was a babyface. Besides Rock always wanted to work with Sting.

Rock/Goldberg did normal instead of big business, that was a let down because it's a huge dream match but Rock was destroying the Goldberg character and was too entertaining to be a heel. They should have done it differently but at least we saw the match.
