Maybe it's just that fact that I've grown tired of Rock's cartoony promo style after all these years but a lot of his promos just seem cheesy to me now. I prefer his mic work as Hollywood Rock, where he got more creative and didn't rely on his millions of catchphrases. His promos were legit hilarious then.
No, until then, Rock was the charismatic, cool, arrogant bully who was self-centered, all for himself, openly said it and the people followed every word he said. This was the opportunity for the audience to get a different side of The Rock, a more personal and soft side of the character, hearing stories about his high school days and such. It's not only this segment, but the entire Rock/Sock run. That segment is so iconic and innovative for the reason that nobody did it before on a wrestling program, along with the quality of course and the untouchable chemistry of Rock and Foley.

Good to know about the DVD. And it's one of the greatest things in wrestling history and probably Foley's biggest moment but Rock did bigger and better things.
Lol I honestly believe half the shit in that segment was made up. Pretty sure one of the people was a backstage worker or something...cute that you believed it though.

You thought that half of it was real? no, everything was made up. Which is why I talked about The Rock's character. Although in terms of content, it was all Rock and Foley on the spot.
If we're talking Rock/Sock, this is a nice package WWE did before WM20. The history, chemistry, characters, cleverness, the legendary segment and the dynamics between them.:
Actually, Rock along with Pat Patterson proposed a huge match between Rock/Hogan, Rock/Goldberg or Rock/Savage but Vince turned all those down and Rock was left to work with the Foley/Evolution program. The fact that it was the 20th anniversary of the show and it was held at MSG meant the Rock just had to be there.
I'm not sure how those matches Rock proposed would've worked out because his schedule might've effected the build up and the number of dates he could work but if he had got a huge program that he wanted, I think he would've been able to work it out like this year. Rock getting his win back over Goldberg would've been nice.
I'm pissed he didn't propose Rock/HBK. Vince might've been convinced but he said it back in 05 that he never wanted a program with HBK.
