The fact that it drew such a huge audience and it was so memorable that people are talking about it every year for the last 13 years including 2 more of this concept says it all. You needed to watch this back then to understand what was so special about it, that was a side of Rock's personality that people never saw before along with Mankind's usual attitude and they created this magical, historic segment.
You mean we never saw the Rock making fun of people, interrupting them and putting them down and talkin in the third person? Your kidding...
When I watched it originally, I thought it was one of the best segments ever... but now when I re-watch it all these years later, I don't find it as good. I'd put the DX McMahon's impression, Austin with Angle, singing to Vince and the DX Nation parody over that.
Awful. I prefer - ya know - like, actual wrestling and stuff. Big fan of both Foley and the Rock, but this was a low point for both guys and I always hated how Foley turned the Mankind character into a joke (he wouldn't really recover until the feud with HHH).
The actual segment is pointless, unfunny, and goes on far too long. Not to mention it has been an influence on countless other unfunny RAW moments. No different than Bob Barker or any of the hokey, jokey stuff they do these days.
Agreed. This was the standard bearer for stupid comedy segments. We now have to suffer through them all the time because of the "success" of this one.
If I'm not mistaken, the full legendary segment is not on any DVD, so they're probably saving it as an exclusive for the big 20 years DVD in January.
The "full, legendary" segment is on the RAW's 15th Anniversary DVD. I have it and I've watched the DVD front to back. Entertaining, yes - but it's not the best of all time nor is it the best on that DVD.

No, until then, Rock was the charismatic, cool, arrogant bully who was self-centered, all for himself, openly said it and the people followed every word he said. This was the opportunity for the audience to get a different side of The Rock, a more personal and soft side of the character, hearing stories about his high school days and such. It's not only this segment, but the entire Rock/Sock run. That segment is so iconic and innovative for the reason that nobody did it before on a wrestling program, along with the quality of course and the untouchable chemistry of Rock and Foley.

Good to know about the DVD. And it's one of the greatest things in wrestling history and probably Foley's biggest moment but Rock did bigger and better things.

But..but ..it was the Rock..anyone else who does it is just shit..the masses could watch the Rock eat toast and call it the gretest thing since sliced bread
I loved it. Although I wasn't a fan of the Rock at the time I really got a good few laughs out of it because I loved the way Mick Foley handled it. Both really worked well off each other. And yes the promo dd go on for a bit but it was funny as hell and the best waste of time I have seen.
