Default What if Kane didn't work out?

Lets say that shortly after his debut, something happened(such as fans reacting negatively to the Taker-Kane storyline, or "Glen Jacobs" didn't want to do the gimmick anymore, or just had some backstage issues with other people) which caused WWE to have to write Kane out of the company or something.

What would happen to Undertaker-Bearer had the whole Kane storyline just failed and possibly even having Kane written out of WWE? Cause there seemed to be alot of build towards Kanes debut, not to mention the debut itself still being considered one of the best debuts ever.

Would this make Taker-Bearer look worse or what? Cause it seemed like alot of pressure on WWE themselves cause they were introducing a new character with such a huge connection to one of their biggest stars. Seems like a real risky thing they did, that might have been real bad for them had things not worked out.

Not talking about the streak so much, but just as comparisons. Think about if WWE ever had someone in line to end the steak, imagine how risky it'd be cause if that person ended up being a bust, they can't change history. Feels like Kane might have had a similar impact. If he ended up being a bust, would seem abit hard for WWE to drop that history.

Good question. Was interesting to see in a Glen shoot interview, him talking about the pressure he was under when he debuted. Walking down the ramp to the ring, after that epic match between Taker/HBK... He said there he came, a nobody, with all that big build leading up to that moment.. He talked about how Taker chose him to work with and play Kane..

Didnt Glen trip or something walking to the ring? Not bad, but noticeable lol.. Then he turned around a few times while tombstoning Taker to get the right camera angle.. Its amazing to look back and see how a guy like Glen adopted into the Kane character so quickly and nailed it perfectly ever since then. I dont see how he was able to breathe right under that mask all those nights and not pass out, you could tell how heavy he was breathing back then.

Very good question though. My childhood wouldnt be the same if it wasnt for Kane thats for sure.

LOL, him turning around multiple times just looks so goofy, if you're thinking of it as a monster returning to destroy his brother. WHY IS HE TURNING LIKE THAT!? I think he picks him up, turns right, turns right, turns left, turns left, Tombstone.

As far as writing Kane out of the storyline goes, I actually think it would have been pretty simple. It would've sucked and felt like an enormous letdown (since Kane's debut had about 6 months of build) but all it would have really taken to kill the angle would be for Undertaker to beat Kane's ass and send him back to hell where he came from.

Would there have been grander implications? It certainly was to the WWF's benefit that it worked out, both in that it drastically deepened Undertaker's character while also producing in Kane what was essentially an instant main eventer (until about the end of 1998 anyway, it was all downhill from there for him). Ultimately I guess Taker would've just moved on to something else while having his character seem like it had a major unresolved issue, and Kane would've been one of the biggest what-ifs in wrestling history.

If Kane vs Undertaker feud didn't happen then the Taker himself wouldn't be as epic as he is now. I will always remember these two as brothers and their feud was sweet, probably the best thing to happen to both of them in their entire careers.

Here's another question then, if Glen Jacobs hadn't taken the role of Kane for whatever reason who else around at that time would have been able to go under the mask and would they have played it to the perfection that Jacobs did?

I don't really mean to take anything away from Jacobs, but when it comes to the initial incarnation of Kane, there wasn't much to it; all he had to do was maul people. He had terrific body language, but since he was creating the character, he had a blank slate to work from. Paul Bearer really did all the work. Between him and the character itself, Kane would've gotten over no matter who played him, but as big men go Jacobs was surely the best worker they could've gotten to play the part at that time.

I have to admit, looking back I'm kind of surprised it wasn't Brian Lee that got the nod. Lee was the man that played the fake Undertaker in '94 and is well known as being one of Mark Callaway's best friends within the industry. I believe he was also a free agent at the time the Kane character was getting ready to be launched and so was ready to go under the mask, the only thing that was perhaps against him was that he 'only' stood at 6'6".

Brian Lee was in DOA at the time, as Chainz. Like you say though, he was a little on the short side to pull off the character. One of the major things that made Kane so impressive was that he stood taller than Undertaker.

At the time of Kane's debut Brian Lee was still in ECW, wasn't until later in the year he returned to WWF. I'm sure I read somewhere years ago that Kane's boots were boosted to make him appear taller when he first appeared, but I guess even if that was the case Brian Lee would have had have worn platforms.
