Well, in retrospect, this was the best thing WWE could have done. Instead of going bankrupt, they boomed. And thank god for that, because otherwise we'd be dealing with worse in WCW right now.

It was a bit strange in all honesty because i kept wondering why Vince McMahon, Gerald Briscoe, Pat Patterson, Sgt Slaughter, Tony Garea and many other backstage WWE workers were all out there during the match. At first i thought it was because of the real life hatred between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart maybe really coming out or that maybe it was to make it look as if their hatred had to be controlled.

Because a lot of the match was outside the ring all of those people being there really made you buy into the hatred but once Vince McMahon kept shouting "get back in the ring" at Bret Hart i kind of wondered. I didn't remember there being a No Disqualification ruling before the match so why both men were allowed to break the rules also made me wonder what was going on and if the whole thing was real as they were using the Canadian flag, microphone cord and a flag pole on each other but not at any time did Earl Hebner even attempt to break it up.

When Shawn Michaels pulled Earl Hebner in front of him as Bret Hart was coming off the top rope i expected to see D-Generation X and The Hart Foundation all come down and there being an all out brawl which would then see Shawn Michaels pull out the cheap win, as soon as the Austin/Owen match was over there was an advert for the next PPV and it was called In Your House: D-Generation X so i knew Shawn Michaels was winning. When no one came down and Shawn Michaels put Bret Hart in The Sharpshooter i thought no way and then when Earl Hebner called for the bell i was absolutely marking out as it was surreal but then everything became weird as Bret Hart got up immediately and both he and Shawn Michaels looked at Vince McMahon before Bret Hart spat at Vince McMahon. Shawn Michaels looked pissed off in grabbing the WWE title and didn't celebrate until he got to the curtain so everything seemed weird and very surreal so i knew something was up.

I would have taken Bret at his word and allowed him to drop the belt after SS. But I would have put it in paper and have plenry of the roster present to witness the agreement. Would have kept the good relationship between WWF and Bret (leaving him open to return sooner), plus it would have sent a message to the Kliq.

But then again I'm not in charge of a multi-million dollar company with my topstar on the way out to the competion.

But I think Vince already made the best of a bad situation

Hometown or no hometown I don't give a fuck, Bret gets paid to do a job and he refused to do that job, he got everything he had coming to him, would do the same.

I'm quite simple minded but i don't know how the screwjob did a damn thing, everyone with a brain knows it's all scripted anyway, most people know Bret didn't actually lose, so some could argue he was still the champion when he left wwe.

Oh and when people talk of taking the title to WCW they mean metaphorially right? Cause there's no way they can phisically take it.

I know all about the screwjob and i'm not completely stupid, i just don't quite understand how it was better for business.

You all forgetting one big issue.
Bret had a final 30 day creative control clause in his contract any finish was had to approved by Bret.
Still not sure why Vince decided to fuck him over though.

They should have just stuck to the plan and gone with the DQ finish and then he vacates it the next night and leaves.

I would've done the same thing Vince did.

Bret refused to do the job, he didn't want to lose the title to Shawn for petty differences. The thing is Bret was leaving, Shawn was not. You don't say "no" to the boss, no matter what company you work for. If Vince want's Bret to job to Shawn in Montreal because Bret is leaving, than that's what is going to happen, no matter what the circumstances.

I would have just let Bret leave with the title. It's not like they only have one WWE title. If by any chance, Bret did show up on Nitro with the title (He wouldn't), Vince could just come out with another WWE title the next night and say "The title is now vacated and there will be a tournament held, blahblahblah."

It's not rocket science. What McMahon did was wrong, end of story.

If he chose to take the belt to WCW he could have. Alundra Blayze took the WWF Women's Title to Nitro after her contract had expired with WWF, and proceeded to throw the title in the bin.
