Austin/HHH was never the plan at any point for WM16, they already wrestled plenty of times on RAW in 99 and had a PPV match in October.
Very interesting. I'm curious how the heel turn would have gone in 1999, with Taker and Triple H both great heels at the time. Just the whole late 1999 - 2000 scenario with a healthy Austin and Taker sounds incredible. There's no doubt that The Rock would have been huge. But where does that leave Triple H, say an Austin heel turn happened?

2000 was already an awesome main event scene, but it could have been "fuckin" incredible with the addition of the other two. As long as Taker was still in his Ministry stage.

I don't know about HHH but he wasn't going to be in that main event spot all year with Rock and Austin as top babyface and top heel, that's for sure. Maybe Foley/HHH at WM16.

Taker wasn't there from September and he worked injured all year anyway. Hard to know, could have been amazing but it was still the two greatest years for me so who knows.

This is from the PWTorch report in November 99 about Rock/Austin at WM16, it's during a Russo interview with Keller:

Oh wow, very cool. Foley / HHH, Big Show / Taker seems like it'd make the most sense with Austin / Rock. And hell, that all sounds like a much better event than Wrestlemania 2000 turned out to be.

Still could have done the Triple H retiring Foley angle, just without the Title. Big Show - Taker, culminating from their tag team. Just stretch that out longer.

Austin/Rock/Triple H/Undertaker... Wow that would have been fantastic, but probably would have ended the streak before it had gotten notoriety.

According to Wikipedia he tore his pectoral muscle. It could very well be wrong though.
