The thing with The Nation that was led by The Rock was it was always about elevating The Rock rather than anyone else in the group and that was done by SummerSlam in 1998 so The Nation was probably always going to end in the way it did. The question regarding whether The Rock would have got to where he did had Shawn Michaels been there is something that is always asked and i'd say yes because from the minute The Rock turned heel in mid 1997 and joined The Nation you could see he was going to become a star although not as big as he eventually did by late 1999.

One of the best things with Shawn Michaels and The Rock is their ability to play both a great face and a great heel so the balance would always have been there because whilst one was face the other could be heel and then there would never have been any kind of conflict in one being over the other. It isn't a secret that Vince McMahon valued Shawn Michaels more than anyone else and simply loved him and The Attitude Era was always going to have Shawn Michaels at the forefront of it prior to his injury so i think a better question is would Triple H have made it to where he did had Shawn Michaels been around as i believe Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock and Shawn Michaels would have been the big three for that era had Shawn Michaels not been injured.

Never thought of this before. I also wonder if Triple H would have been as big as he got had he not been the group leader. X-Pac would have joined I agree but I think the New Age Outlaws would have stayed out of DX but still would have been a dominant team.

So yall just going to overlook Shawn Michaels huge drug problem during that time. If anything he more than likely would've been like randy orton with vince and hhh making excuses for his actions. If Shawn was totally health during the height of the attitude area I still believe Rock would've still been Rock, but his push to superstar status would have happened after WM 15.

I think it would have been great if they could have agreed to terms with Mr. Perfect. His reemergence as a member of DX could have dovetailed with the previous alliance he had with HHH (right before he took time away & negotiated a deal with WCW). I’d rather have Perfect and Rude (don't anger him with the screwjob) than the Outlaws.

Heel dominating DX:

HBK
HHH
Chyna
Rude
Perfect
X-Pac

Yes, sir.

Curt Hennig wouldn't have fitted into D-Generation X at all because he didn't have the same persona or attitude to have been in a group like that. I loved Curt Hennig as a performer but he was never a stable type of character in my opinion which is why his WCW run wasn't anywhere near what it could have been.

You’re kidding. Curt Hennig had as much “persona or attitude” as anyone in DX; He oozed these traits.

Curt Hennig was initially booked huge in WCW: He turned on DDP as his mystery partner (a position Sting was teased for), and he not only disbanded the Horseman, he got put over them. He really was the perfect fit for the nWo, but that’s where the purple patch of booking ended. They probably subscribed to your theory, so he became an afterthought.

I have no idea what the plans would have been and I have no real interest in speculating it. If Shawn continued to wrestle through 1998 instead of being forced out of action - he may never have changed his life around and for all we know he could have been dead by now. So who can really say what would have happened on Raw with him in DX beyond Wrestlemania XIV.

As it is I'm more than pleased that we had to lose him for those four years - it's worth it to get a man in a healthier place in his life where he managed to wrestle into his twilight years and give us some amazing matches.

I think that:

1. X-Pac would still have joined but not the outlaws
2. Hbk and dx would have feuded with austin post wrestlemania (probably affecting the austin-mcmahon storyline who could have been scrapped)
3. A HBK-HHH feud would probably began during the summer, culminating in a match at summerslam 1998.

I think HBK would have continued feuding with Austin and probably would have faced each other again at Unforgiven in a rematch where Austin would have gone over again (though he probably would have dropped the title back to HBK at some point)

As for DX, it would have ended in a split with HBK probably turning face again at some point and beating a heel HHH IMO.

In a way I am glad it never happened. We never would have got Austin v McMahon, potentially never the emergence of the Rock if HBK continued to get his way and I am not convinced that Austin would have got the run with the title he had. No doubt HBK of 1998 would have politicked, pissed, moaned and bitched until he got the title back.

HBK went away for 4 years and by all accounts came back a much more unselfish and refreshed person which resulted in him excellently putting over guys who deserved to be put over and giving us some classic matches in the process.
