What was Sting's gimmick before his crow-like persona?

Surfer-Sting, with bright colours (that's the way they show him on wwe.com). He returned once with the same kind of facepaint (only around the eyes and nose) in black and white; that was the transition to crow-Sting.

I guess you can compare surfer-Sting to Cena. Just mainly the smiley goodguy. But contrary to Cena, surfer-Sting's wrestling was awesome.

This was meant to happen at WrestleMania 18 when Vince McMahon really thought he has signed Sting and this period in time was the time when Sting was talking about not going to WWE because of The Rock belittling Booker T and him being concerned about how he would be used as he didn't want his character to be killed off as many ex WCW guys had happen. Back in between early 2001 and early 2003 there wasn't a better in ring worker anywhere in the world than Kurt Angle and Sting/Angle at WrestleMania 18 would have torn the roof off before Rock/Hogan had even happened.

On topic though and the reality is you can only really even try to imagine Sting facing people in WWE from mid 2001 onwards because he wouldn't leave WCW under any circumstances because he was so loyal to the company. I would have loved to have seen Sting/Triple H in 2002 once Triple H had turned heel again, Sting/Angle at any point, Sting/Lesnar at any point, Sting/Edge any time in between 2005 and 2007, Sting/Jericho in 2008, Sting/Orton in 2009 and Sting/Undertaker but i wouldn't want to see it as much anymore unless The Undertaker went all sadistic heel like when he was in The Ministry even just for a while and Sting went all silent and dark like 1996-1998.

Re: Sting - A WWE Career That Never Happened

Personally I'm glad Sting never went to WWE. I think it added something to his legacy by not doing so, that other WCW guys who went lost b/c of working there.

I think around the early to mid 90's if Sting would have jumped, he would have fared well by doing so. Outside of that time period, I personally feel that McMahon would have had some agenda to diminish Sting.

Re: Sting - A WWE Career That Never Happened

I wish he'd come to WWE in 2002. Feuds with Undertaker, Kane, Hulk Hogan, Triple H and Shawn Michaels would've been great. I remember hoping for a Sting vs Steve Austin match at Wrestlemania 18. Would've been great.

He wouldn't have gotten those feuds though. The only person I can think of that was a huge WCW star(and was never in the WWF) that vince pushed was goldberg, and thats because he was a freaking bodybuilder. sting probably would have ended up in a slightly better position than ddp, but not much else.

Plus, I'm glad he didn't go, not just because he wouldn't have been used right, but because it hurt vince's Ego. I bet at the time he felt he could get who ever he wanted, and now that Sting has never step foot in the wwe ring, you get to see Vince trying to beg him to come for a wrestlemania match. It's pretty funny

Re: Sting - A WWE Career That Never Happened

It is quite funny now. Besides, somehow I have a feeling Sting would've became a mid-carder in WWE just so Vince could feel satisfaction.

I have to say, i am suprised Vince still asked him last year, i do wish of course Sting would have signed, i wonder what the problem was this time why he didn't join, more than likely loyalty to TNA or something to do with his contract with TNA (i.e benefits etc)

I bet Vince has finally given up now

Re: Sting - A WWE Career That Never Happened

Who knows? Maybe Sting said he'd sign only if he got to end Taker's streak at WM
