Really enjoying these reviews guys keep it up. If anyone felt like doing Taker v Shawn HIAC or the Canadian Stampede 10 man tag that would be sweet. Those two are pretty much my favourite matches of all time. Taker and Shawn the most.

I was reading on another forum about a discussion on Starrcade 1997 and how it could of gone differently, apparantly Sting was the one who was supposed to dominate the match instead of mainly Hogan, and apparantly Sting was 'stoned' during the match.

Forgive my ignorance, is it true about Sting anyone know?

I never heard that story. I doubt it is true. It's just a shame Hogan and Sting had terrible chemistry together in this match and they had the screwy finish that the referee messed up. Everything about this match was just a letdown other than Sting's entrance and victory celebration (you know, stuff that happened before and after the bell rang).

I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually Sting who was supposed to control the match. He was returning and the NWO angle was huge with him not getting the chance to kill Hulk and take the title until Starrcade. I imagine the crowd would have roared through the whole thing. It's like the DiBiase/Duggan cage match where Ted had nowhere to escape and Duggan just pounded on him for twelve minutes. I think the major difference is that DiBiase/Duggan ended there; Sting/Hogan went on to 1998 so they probably didn't want to make the match look like a finale or something. They'd been getting the "We're Fucking WWF Up the Ass" ratings mainly because the Sting/Hogan feud was so awesomely built. It's a WCW thing to keep someting going for more money depsite it getting tiresome. Or stopping something awesome for no good reason (see: the Dangerous Alliance, the Hollywood Blondes, Vader v Dustin Rhodes....)

I've never heard Sting to be a drug user, though.

Doubt Sting was stoned during the match to be honest but wouldn't surprise me if Sting was actually supposed to be the one to dominate the match. Starrcade 1997 really was messed up because of the dusty main event finish. If it were me booking it, Bret Hart would never have appeared on Starrcade, Sting would have won clean with the Scorpion Death Lock and so Hogan would be gone from WCW for a good while whilst Sting reigned over it, the next night I would have had Bret debut on Nitro, cutting Sting off before he speaks for the first time in over a year and have him be bitter about Sting's use of the Sharpshooter and vow to never be seen using it or ever be seen in the hold again in his life. The feud would be based around the Sharpshooter/Scorpion and Bret would be constantly trying to avoid the hold at Souled Out. Alas, your main feud for 1998 would be Bret/Sting. At least the first few months of '98 anyway.

There's more to it than that but this aint a booking thread so I wont go into too much detail about it. Lets just say WCW dropped the ball with the Starrcade '97 ending.

I doubt Sting was stoned in any of his matches, he seemed really pissed at Jeff Hardy when Jeffro was high like a kite.

Indeed, just a lack of match practice as someone has said, he does mention drug problems here:

Not sure what year he was talking about though, 1997?

Yeah, i dispised Hardy for that, Sting turned down Mania FFS.

Sting was probably showing ring-rust after not wrestling for a long time.
