About that, by the way- I can't see a heel finishing the streak... The only way to do it properly was to turn Goldberg Heel. I mean, can you see a heel like Jericho defeating him? And by cheating? Anticlimax, in my opinion.
Goldberg was still hugely popular even after his streak ended. I went back and watched all the PPV's after his streak ended and he still got huge reactions for the most part. The only negative reactions I can remember were a couple Canadian PPV's (Mayhem and New Blood Rising) and at Starrcade 1999 when a face Bret Hart vs. a face Goldberg and some of the Bret Hart fans chanted Goldberg sucks but there were plenty of Goldberg chants too.

Goldberg was going to be a star. You could tell that very early on because the crowd took to him almost instantly. The streak really helped him but I still think he would have been a big deal without it. Remember many wrestlers have had winning streaks and not gotten over like Goldberg did.

I also think a heel had to end the streak because it wasn't a passing of the torch situation. Ending the streak was more about creating a heel rival for Goldberg. I think having him lose clean would have made him look too weak. It had to be a screwjob followed up with an angle for Goldberg to eventually get revenge against that heel for screwing him out of his streak.

The Goldberg being heel thing wouldn't have worked either. WCW tried him as a heel in 2000 and got away from it pretty quickly because the crowd just wasn't into it.

Nash was really popular around this time. I just think he was too old to be the guy that ends Goldberg's streak and I think he lost a lot of fans with the finger poke deal with Hogan but that was after he ended Goldberg's streak.

I would have him lost the streak to Sting at a major PPV (starcade perhaps). Losing to Sting is nothing to be ashamed of whereas losing to say DDP would have diminished Goldbergs aura. Dont get me wrong DDP is worthy its just, no. I think Goldberg should lose it to Sting cleanly then go on a mini losing streak, which affects Goldbergs' confidence and then he sides with Sting, who helps raise his confidence. Think Rocky 3.

DDP made the most sense cuz it would have made him a legend.

Sting would have been the second choice

Hogan shouldve screwed him bc he was the only guy worthy of ending the streak, then Berg couldve fought his way back to Hogan goin through NWO. DDP was really hot in 97/98 they shouldve really given him the title but only if they were really goin to push him as a monster face.

DDP in 98/99 as a face

OR

Scott Steiner in 00 as a heel (use the same finish as their Fall Brawl 00 match minus the Russo run-in)
