I was just thinking about this and wondering what you guys thought? The match card for this PPV is as follows.
I was wondering what you guys thought in regards to the match card, star power and the results?
We had The Rockers take on The Barbarian and Haku as the opening match which from what I can gather, The Rockers were quite a big deal with the crowd at this point. Texas Tornado seemed to be really over also and the Warlord/Bulldog feud seemed to be quite invested in also. The Warlord was an attraction too due to his size as was the Bulldog really, so this seemed pretty good specially with the will he/won't he break out of the Full Nelson thing. The Hart Foundation dropped their belts to the Nasty Boys (which apparently was meant to be Power & Glory originally) possibly due to Bret about to start his singles career run. Jake finally got his win after such a huge build up in the Blindfold match. Warrior and Randy Savage was huge in regards to this being a retirement match after a substantial build up in their feud and then we had the Virgil against Ted Dibiase match going on with Piper supporting Virgil (I think the Summerslam match was much better but this was a build up towards that). Then of course we had LOD on the card who seemed huge at the time also, they pretty much hammered Power & Glory but as for star power they seemed to really bring it and of course we had Hogan against Slaughter in the main event, which when it comes to star power Hogan was it at this point.
Big Boss Man seemed like quite a big deal at the time as did Perfect and obviously it was Undertakers first match at Wrestlemania so at this point, I'm not sure how big a star he was back then however Jimmy Snuka seemed to be I think. Demolition were there while winding down and Earthquake seemed like a big deal at the time also. Tito Santana was the ultimate babyface it seemed.
I'm not sure how much The Mountie was at this point, Greg Valentine seemed to be winding down then too I think but may have been considered a star for star power too and I have no idea about the guys they brought in from Japan if they were a big deal or not against Demolition.
In regards to results, we had Savage losing against Warrior which was probably the right result and really helped him later when he was reinstated and had the fans on his side. Tornado defeating Dino seems about right. Nasty Boys taking the titles from Hart Foundation was good as it did establish them more as heels and also with Bret going on to be a singles star too, it was probably the right decision, people legit hated the Nasty Boys too so it was great for both Bret and the Nasty Boys really to have this, they probably were the better choice than Power & Glory if that was to be the case. Jake defeating Rick Martel was spot on, the crowd went nuts on that after the build up for such a while teasing clashes at previous PPV's and Bulldog over Warlord was decent too. I could take a Warlord win but Bulldog would have to have a rematch somewhere to win the feud. The count out with Dibiase and Virgil was just great for their Summerslam match and The Mountie over Tito I think I could take either way, Tito seemed to be winding down also and if The Mountie was going on to the do the feud with Boss Man at Summerslam, it kinda made sense to make him look better towards that feud also. The Rockers was an obvious win to hype up the crowd. The rest were pretty obvious substantial wins so in regards to that, I think it was pretty spot on really.
The match card seemed pretty jam packed at the time that I'm sure the fans got a huge spectacle there in regards to the talent they were seeing.
So what are your thoughts? There's no doubt other angles I could look at here that you guys have a better perspective on so would love to hear your thoughts and vibes in regards to this when it comes to star power, the match card and the results?
