Of course he did, he'd justify voting in Hitler too. I watched the movie recently and it was so poor and never going to be a mainstream hit...what were they thinking?
Didn't watch but I'd just like to say that Russo is a complete moron. It's so sad that people still give this proven failure money in this day and age. Pathetic.
This is every day Russo. I love listening to him on many topics but this one has to be the worst by far. He just cannot admit it was a bad decision and never will.
I defend Russo a lot but that was one of the things he did that is completely beyond defending. If it had been some 250lb NFL player or NHL goon? fine, if it had been like Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis? sure. Shit, even if it had just been a none athlete that was actually properly famous and relevant at the time like Eminem it wouldnt have been as bad. All of those things should have been completely obvious to anyone involved in the decision at the time.
But no, instead we got a nerdy 150lb B lister who had no credibility and no real pop culture relevance.
I remember tuning into WCW after a few months of not watching and seeing this guy with the belt on his shoulder. I tuned out and didn't tune back in until Night of Champions.
I don't hate Russo in the way that many do, but his inability to admit to his shitty decisions is problematic. Especially all this time later. It was an embarrassment at the time and it's an embarrassment now, being pissy and defensive about it only shows that actually he knows that too.
Love Russo but he was so wrong for putting the belt on David Arquette. It was one of the most terrible decisions he's made in WCW. It was complete bullshit.
It was a stupid decision. It didn't boost business and it basically killed any prestige the WCW belt still had. It was pretty much the death knell for that company. No surprise that WCW died less than a year later.
And lets not forget how repulsed Diamond Dallas Page was with that idea and David Arquette didn't even want to be Champion. He thought it was pure bullshit.
I don't have a issue with Vince. The guy had some good ideas and he had some shitty ones. This one was shitty as fuck that hurt the company in the end.
