Re: Wrestlemania IX

In hindsight for me a better card would have been (Winners in Bold)

Bret Hart v Hulk Hogan - WWF Title
Randy Savage v Yokozuna
Marty Janetty v Shawn Michaels - IC Title 2/3 Falls
Steiners v Money Inc - Tag Team Titles
Undertaker v Bam Bam Bigelow
Crush v Doink
Tatanka v Lex Luger
Mr Perfect v Razor Ramon
10 Man Battle Royal - Owen Hart wins last eliminating Rick Martel (I'd give Owen Hart a slow push in 1993 and some great matches, some key wins and close defeats against bigger stars that leads to his heel turn on Bret)

Re: Wrestlemania IX

Edit: Of course, Hogan got his eye in a boating accident.

Finish was bullshit with Hogan but one thing that I've seen mentioned elsewhere that I thought too, was that I kinda would have preffered Yoko hitting a legdrop in addition to throwing salt in Bret eyes to beat him tbh, but the Hogan stuff was bad enough so it was whatever.

Re: Wrestlemania IX

I always just love the scenery of Vegas and the commentating is quite funny. Undertakers entrance as always, amazing. I actually enjoy some of the matches, not in my top 15 Manias but definitely a lot of fun to watch now and again. Have already gone through every Mania once this year. This one is far from the worst at least. Sherri is so fuuckin hot!! Loved that woman, love her at every Mania she was in.

Re: Wrestlemania IX

It's for me the worst Wrestlemania (although 11 could possibly be worse but i have not seen that for years). It got off to a decent start with the Michaels and Tatanka match being decent. Match of the night was The Steiners and The Headshrinkers. Other highlights was Bobby Heenan, The Camel and Lex Luger's valets.

A lot of negatives with one of the main ones being Randy Savage only doing commentary. It would have been great if he had replaced Janetty instead of Tatanka and wrestled Michaels. Henig vs Luger was a disappointment, Undertaker vs Gonzalez is most probably the worst match i have ever seen and to top it all off, Bret got shafted by Hogan. It could have been so much better with different booking, and I wish they had held the Henig vs Flair career match back to Wrestlemania and not an early episode of Raw.

Re: Wrestlemania IX

This Wrestlemania isn't bad as most make it out to be. I actually liked Taker vs Gonzalez and it had a lot of interesting endings that added some good stories going forward, such as Luger knocking out opponents with his forearm.
Tatanka and the Mega Maniacs should won the titles in their matches. Undertaker beats Gonzales by pinfall. Hart should've retained. Would've made for a much better show than what actually happened.

Re: Wrestlemania IX

I really loved the Kona Hawaii Crush gimmick and I do wish it gotten a better push. Crush could have gotten further and maybe a WWE Championship reign had he not have joined Yokozuna. I hated Taker/Gonzalez and I blame that boring match on Gonzalez. I wish it would have been Bam Bam Bigelow or even Nailz had he not gotten fired for choking out Vince McMahon. Loved the Steiners vs Headshrinkers and Money Inc vs Mega Maniacs. Bret Hart vs Yokozuna was a dope match because it was USA vs Japan. An instant classic. I loved the ending of the match with Fuji throwing the salt in Bret's eyes. One of my favorite WM title matches in the history of the WWE.

Re: Wrestlemania IX

This is definitely one of those Mania cards where I feel people feel they are suppose to hate it because it's the smark thing to do lol.

I remember watching it live and the way I see some on the net talk about it is hilarious. As if it was some weekend episode of a star studded Superstars episode or something.

It wasn't anything epic like WM 3-6, but WWF was on a slide anyways. This card could have been worse to be honest.

Re: Wrestlemania IX

This reminds me that not even the shit Hulk Hogan pulled late in his carreer to bury people and keep his spot, comes close to the bullshit Superman booking of Roman Reigns.

Re: Wrestlemania IX

I have a soft spot for this wrestlemania just because I loved the production of the show. Had some great action with Steiners/Headshrinkers, Money Inc/Mega Maniacs, Michaels/Tatanka & I thought Bret carried Yoko to a nice match. A few memorable moments to takeaway as well while the matches were not quite the best, Undertakers face off with Gonzales left me in awe, Lugers entrance was epic & the two Doinks. I wish Razor had a better program to work but he got to dominate an all time great even though he wasn't booked so great at the time in Backlund.

Yeah, Steiners/Headshrinkers was a very good match. HBK/Tatanka was good too IMO.

It's funny, Bret did carry Yoko and tried to make the most of the main event, but Bret said he planned the match out so that all the big stuff would come in the final few minutes, but Yoko went to the finish earlier than he should have, probably as he was blown up.
