Sid Justice - Insanely protected

If you think The Ultimate Warrior was protected during his career and pushed to the moon, his protetction and push pales in comparision with Sid Justice in 1991-1992

During his 10 month stint, Sid was involved in all big PPV's except Survivor Series, and that is due to a legit arm injury.

-Summerslam'91 - Sid was the Special guest referee during the main event
-Survivor Series 1991 - Not participating due to legit injury
-Royal Rumble 1992 - Sid was the last man to be eliminated at Royal Rumble, even getting the honor of eliminating Hogan, Savage and Piper. Where the focus of aftermath was completely put on him and Hogan, making the winner and new WWF Champion Ric Flair to an almost afterthought
-SNME - Was put in the main event teaming with Hogan to defeat Ric flair and the Undertaker, with much of the attention are put on Sid.
-Wrestlemania 8 - Despite not being in a title match Sid mainevented the show with Hogan by closing it. Furthermore, his loss was a DQ to Hogan, even allowed to kick out of Hogans leg-drop, something which was unheard of up to that point.

Furthermore, Sid was never ever pinned during this time, nor did he ever submit, not even during "dark matches" or on house shows.

In all his tag team matches he lost, it was always Ric Flair who took the pinfall, not Sid.

All in all, Sid Justice had over 117 matches, where he defeated:
-The Undertaker 19 times, most in Body bag matches or in Steel Cage matches, once by DQ and once by CO
-Randy Savage (Once in a cage)
-Jake Roberts (9 times, mostly by CO but also by pin)
-Skinner
-Ted Dibiase (Twice, both Squashes)
-Warlord (Twice)
-Barbarian (Twice)
-Colonel Mustafa (Iron Sheik)
-Hercules (Squash - Once)
-Typhoon (Twice)
-Kato (Twice)

All his draws came to two men:
-The Undertaker (9 times via Double count out and once via Double DQ)
-Jake Roberts (Masked as El Diablo, became a no contest, when the Undertaker interfered)

All his losses was either by DQ or CO, and it was agains the likes of:
-Ultimate Warrior (Twice)
-Hulk Hogan (once)
-The Undertaker (14 times)
-Randy Savage (once)
-Was allowed a rare Pinfall over Warrior (Wehre the result was reversed in favor of a DQ win to Warrior, still, not many people can claim a pinfall over Warrior)

-In fact the only match that can be said that Sid lost clean came to the Undertaker during a houseshow in Long Island, NY in Steel Cage Match which Undertaker managed to climb the cage and win.

Is there anyone else who have been so insanely pushed in such a short of a span, and never lost in that time? Brock Lesnar comes to mind, still he lsot several dark matches and was pinned by Big Show 8 months into his debut.

Re: Sid Justice - Insanely protected

It's not shocking. They had him pegged to replace Hogan down the road so of course they were going to protect him. Most truly top guys have always been protected even now. Look at Reigns it's just commonplace for the WWE and the industry in general.

Re: Sid Justice - Insanely protected

good info.

based on that it makes Reigns superman push look wishy washy!

i would say Hogan must have had a similar push when he started in WWF

Re: Sid Justice - Insanely protected

in terms of not getting pinned and pushed the only ones comparable in WWE that I can think of are
-Hogan (In Hogans retrun match to WWF he got a title match and won, then he did not get pinned until over 6 years later. Headlining all PPV main events and getting most opponents
-Warrior (After getting fed jobbers the first 6 months entering WWF and then gets feuds with Harley Race, Hecules and Bobby Heenan, Warrior was slowly being gromed for biger things, first he dethroned Honky of the IC belt, then was in a feud with Rude, and then Squashed Andre the Giant before getting his mega win over Hogan. Too bad he was never given right opponents)
-Sid 1991-1992 (For the above mentioned reasons)
-Lex Luger - 1993-1994 (Only Hogan and Sid had seen a simliar quick push up to that point. Only time Luger lost by pinfall was against Tatanka at Summerslam 1994)
-Lesnar - 2002-2003 (Pushed to the moon and beyond insanely quick)
-Cena 2003-2007 (Once Lesnar and Goldberg left WWE, and Batista bombed as the face of the Company, Cena got the main push and did not lose clean for several years, If not counting his heel debut whe he lost quite often)

Very cool! Shame Sid ended up quitting. He was supposed to be The Guy.

Warrior was hoped to be the Hogan replacement. Reigns was groomed to be the Cena replacement. In April 1991...Vince McMahon knew that he had found his next Hogan. And you know what...unlike Reigns, unlike Luger...the superman push actually worked. Sid was different enough to feel fresh while not appearing to be forced, and was naturally sliding into the 1a role beside Hogan. He hit very strong arena reactions.

That said, he tore his triceps and missed his window to win the title at Thus Tuesday in Texas. By the time he came back in Hanuary, he was still strongly over but WWE was terrified of putting any title on a muscle bound wrestler. Sid was made the top heel, likely with the idea that he would be given another try as the top face after heat died down. Instead Warrior proved too challenging for Sid to work with, so he quit after his second house show match with Warrior in late April 1992.

In terms of caliber of opponents Brock is the only person I can think of off the bat that you can compare to Sid in terms of protection to that level. Though I could be forgetting someone.

According to Prichard, turning heel was Sid's idea. He preferred playing one instead of a babyface.

Re: Sid Justice - Insanely protected

They had big plans for the guy, got to wonder if he had gotten over in 1992 if he could have replaced Hogan as one of the top guys.
