Yokozuna vs. Lex Luger Summerslam 93. What I would have done.

First off, I really enjoyed this match. Bret said in his book, however that Luger looked, "really small in that ring." Lex's shrunken size was him not taking the steroids of course. And I think that hurt the match and how Luger was perceived. Vince said he was 260 here. Yeah right! More like 220-225. He was really small. Should have eaten more!

So Lex should have gained some weight to not appear so shrimpy. That's number one.

Number 2 is that earlier in the show Ludvig Borga cut a promo on Luger saying that the Lex Express didn't come to this squalor, which was decrepit streets, and buildings. What I would have done to get Borga a little more over was maybe have him interfere with the match, only to be met by Luger's forearm. He should have defeated Yokozuna, by count out like it was, but I would have added Borga, because to me, this made sense, since Borga obviously had disdain for Luger with the promo.

I know I should probably put this in the be the booker forum, but it's too late now! I'm hitting send!

Luger cheats to win, starting his heel turn. Over the next 8 months, he gets jealous of Bret's popularity and there's your WM X main event.

No Perfect, no Borga, no bullshit.

Do you then not want the classic that was Bret/Owen? For that to work, Luger has to win the title somewhere

I believe the biggest issue with Borga was he had difficulties being trusted within the locker room, because had a lot of issues and didn't really work well with others.

According to Jim Ross: "I won't speak at length about those that have passed away but Tony obviously had issues and was not a great guy to be around. Perhaps others have a different view of this man but I personally found him to be somewhat obnoxious and he could be a bully if allowed to be such. Guys like Halme don't mix well in any locker room and need to be removed from the 'team' sooner than later." Ross would add to his statement, "I still feel badly about the last years of Tony's life as things really unraveled for him seemingly due to alcohol and drug issues."

Despite this fact, while he was limited inside of the ring, he sufficed well enough and fit perfectly with the anti-American gimmick, he was built, he had a look that was very reminiscent of Fit Finlay, he pretty much had everything going for him.

As I recall, he was going to be set up to face Earthquake at X, and he would have probably finished up his feud with Tatanka (which would have allowed him to get his win back). I would think the idea was for him to face Earthquake and then lose, which would have set up for him to attack Luger at X which would have set up a feud between the two of them.

He of course was injured before he could even do any of the above and left the company. Sad too cause he would have made a decent IC champion at the time, as memory serves he did actually "win" the title from Razor, only for the decision to eventually be reversed on him.

I do believe they definitely had plans for something long-term with the two of them, considering Lex was running with the Lex Express and then you have Ludwig who would visit some of the most poverty stricken places in the country to counter what Lex was doing.

This is a WWE that is just a handful of months from being indicted by the US Government for steroid distribution. Luger's push is contingent upon the fact that he is steroid free. If he fails a test - or takes steroids, passes the test, and looks bloated - it is just inviting a revival of media scrutiny that nearly drove WWE off television a year earlier. Luger in 1993 (and for years after) is what a dedicated body builder looks like without steroids. He's not going to get any bigger.
And even off steroids, Vince still got cold feet with giving him the title.

As for storyline, it would have made sense to turn Mr Perfect heel and have him cost Luger the match.

I'm not sure if I'm right, but didn't they turn Perfect heel for Wrestlemania X? I thought he costed him the match then, but I could be wrong.

I think it made sense they had Luger win, since he was going to lose at Wrestlemania anyway. Give him a little steam to run with. Can't give the guy two losses in a row against the same guy.

Though, wouldn't it have been interesting if Hart and Luger main evented Wrestlemania X? That would have been a good main event!
