Okay, on Summerslam '93 Vince says Perfect had never submitted, but in Summerslam '91 we clearly see Perfect submit to the sharpshooter? What's the story there? I heard Bret paid off the ref but that wouldn't make sense, since he was a face at the time? Any ideas here?
Bret certainly didn't pay off the referee. Why would he have to? He was winning the title regardless.
The reason he was winning the title regardless was because of Perfect's back injury going into the match. That's why, as soon as the hold is applied, Perfect "submits". And that submission is very questionable, as it appears (to me, at least) that Perfect was shaking his head, as to say no or to sell the effects of the Sharpshooter. In that regard, Vince's claim holds true.
There is no "clearly Perfect submitted". If it was, why are you saying Bret paid the referee off?
Well then if there was a submission how'd Bret pay the referee off?
Bret didn't even get to apply the Sharpshooter properly before Hebner called for the bell.
It wasn't a conspiracy or a screwjob. It was done to protect a guy who's back was beyond fucked. And maybe he verbally submitted. Maybe Hebner cared enough about his well being to not even wait for the Sharpshooter to be properly applied before calling for the bell.
Either because he didn't submit at Summerslam '91 or because Vince revised history like he always does. Do you really expect me to have an explanation of what Vince McMahon, of all people, said on commentary?
Because, whether he submitted or not, he still lost the title to Bret.
Here's a question: what is it that you want me to tell you? Because you're giving me the impression that no answer will suffice unless it's the answer you feel most comfortable with reading.
Perfect's back was fucked and he shouldn't have even wrestled that match, but did anyway to put over Hart. The finish appeared screwy because Perfect was in a lot of pain as it was happening!
Apparently, I'm talking to a wall, so maybe you should ask him yourself...
