Watching the streak over again is really cool. Even though he's sloppy, so easy to see why Goldberg got so over. The fun part for me is seeing him wrestle against such a strange variety of opponents, being that he worked his way up through the incredibly diverse and dense WCW roster.
I know his best match is widely considered the one with DDP at Halloween Havoc. But I'm gonna say my overall favorite opponent of his was Perry Saturn. Saturn just seemed to get the most out of Goldberg in matches that weren't necessarily booked to be classics. His versatility and ability to lead Goldberg through a coherent match really made me think more highly of him. The striking, the mat game, occasional high-flying, even suplexes, Saturn always managed to look awesome against Goldberg and give him a solid match.
Loved his matches with Hogan and DDP, I'll have to watch the match with Steiner again, but my favourite opponent of Goldberg is Raven for the United States Title.
The crowd were erupting when Goldberg hit the Spear on Raven and took out interfering members of The Flock. Raven tries to escape through the crowd but some fans throw Raven back over the guard rail, Goldberg hits the Spear again and Jackhammer for the win. Goldberg looked like a beast that couldn't be stopped.
My god, the way this guy moved. Like a tiger. Literally everything this guy did looked catlike and devastating.
That calm demeanor with the outbursts of sheer power.
Seriously, if you dont get why Reigns is no Goldberg ... No helping you.
And to think his contract was for 70.000 at first.
William regal teaching goldberg wrestling in the midst of goldberg big monster push was a very different kind of goldberg match when it's not a 3 minute squash and goldberg doesn't look nowhere near as dominant.
Came here to post similar too, Regal was Goldberg's first tester match to see what match could be booked outside the regular squash matches and, well, the interview says it all. Some thought Regal was purposefully trying to jeopardize the match but all he was doing besides trying to give Goldberg a competitive match was buy time too for a longer match.
His best match was against DDP, his best feud was against Steiner though. It was like some Godzilla vs King Kong type of shit, I remember Goldberg doing a gorilla press to Steiner and I fucking got out of my seat. It's still hard to believe that shit even now.
Good question. Bear in mind I only sparsely followed wcw so I don't know a whole lot about it, but I'd have to say Hogan. Reason being that it was the pinnacle of Goldberg's career. Seems like after that it was downhill. But everything up to that point was great
DDP and Scott Steiner, two guys WWE pretends WCW didn't make stars.
I do love how the WWE shits all over WCW all the time, and then turns around and uses it as a selling point to the Network and using the two faces of WCW as a way to market their video game the past few years.
If they didn't drive all the WCW fans away during/after the Invasion, maybe the business wouldn't be as bad off as it is now.
This is an epic video if you have the time:
I've said before, but my booking plan would have been to keep the title on Goldberg all through 99 and have Scott Steiner vs Goldberg at Starrcade for the title where Scotty wins clean after a great match.
I also would have done Wrath as Goldberg's Starrcade 98 opponent.
Easily Scott Steiner. Those two fuckers beat the PISS outta each other every time they stepped in a ring together. Their match at Fall Brawl 2000 is a classic, especially considering what in ring trash WCW was putting out at the time.
DDP & Scott Steiner for me. Also didn't mind the build up for his matches against Bam Bam Bigelow & Sid Vicious.
