Which of his "best friends'" turns on him do you think worked the best? I'd stick with the very first, Orndorff's, as having the honor; besides being the freshest variation on the plot as the first one, it was also the most surprising, for while Andre's and Savage's were very good as well, sharp eyed viewers could see them coming from a mile away, while Mr. Wonderful's, despite some build, was still a bit of a hard turn down quickly enough to be very surprising for first time viewers.
Mr. Wonderful. It was one of the few where m, in retrospect especially, he didn't come off as the good guy in the situation.
Savage... Hogan and Elizabeth. Even as a kid I thought Hogan sliding in on Elizabeth was questionable. To this day Savage is still the face of that feued to me.
Andre... Why not give him the title? The only reason people booed Andre is he had Heenan by his side. But he had every right to want a title shot.
With Mr. Wonderful, it felt like Hogan wasn't being a complete and disingenuous jack ass that was actually the one foing the betraying.
I know we're talking kayfabe, but in reality the biggest betrayal on the Hulkster was committed by Terry Bollea. Hulk Hogan was a hero to millions of kids, even adults over the years and look how he went on to abuse his power and become a complete disgraced fuck up! Everything that was good about Hulk Hogan the character, the real life man Terry Bollea went on to ruin!
The Orndorff turn had me kicking, screaming and crying. I was a young kid but I'd probably have the same reaction if it happened today.
Orndorff was the number two babyface for this brief period and it was painful when he turned on our hero.
Kind of a side point, I like how when Sid eliminated Hogan from the Royal Rumble 1992 it was supposed to be this big betrayal but the crowd cheered when Hogan got tossed out :lol
Andre and Savage were epic don't get me wrong though.
Savage you could see coming, BUT that was the beauty in it. Savage was a hot head for Liz which made it all the more better when they exploded.
Andre was simply betraying fans by siding with Heenan. Andre being Hogan's biggest threat made him the under dog to some for the first time.
