Any unpopular opinions as far as ecw legends go? I'm watching Hardcore TV which made me think of this... Mine are
1. Tommy Dreamer: I just couldn't take him seriously as the "innovator of violence" and face of ecw. He was always a pretty boy to me. He took a couple nice bumps from Brian Lee, but that IOV tag was a bit much for me.
2. Sandman: He gets all of my respect for getting beat up, but his matches just seemed like glorified backyard wrestling matches because of how sloppy he was.
I'll let you guys name people from other Feds as I'm sure I'll ruffle some feathers if I start first.
Edit: Bill Alfonso should be #1 because he's literally the only person that's every made me mute matches (and amazing ones at that) because of the whistle. I wish he'd gotten fired before that Beaulah match.

No, there's a difference between being hated by getting real heat, and being hated because you blow a whistle so much that no one can concentrate on the match.
I think it would be much easier for me to come up with a list of ECW workers I liked.
Maybe The Dudley's, Pitbull #2 , Amish Roadkill, Rhyno?
But if I never saw Tommy Dreamer again.... How does a Rickey Morton babyface get so over in ECW? ECW fans were so "smart" and yet they cheered the heck out of guys like Sandman, New Jack, Dreamer, and others.

Tommy Dreamer: Pretty obvious. He's at the forefront of all these ECW Reunions. He's hired by a TV wrestling company and he's still doing ECW stuff. Honestly Dreamer has not changed at all in 20 years he's still the same guy just fatter and balder now.
Looking back, I don't think there are many ECW guys that I actually like. But to answer your question, it's easily New Jack. A waste of an excuse for a "wrestler". Actually, calling him a wrestler is such a stretch.
Shane Douglas is the big one. Couldn't stand that overpushed blowhard.
Never understood the appeal of Public Enemy either.
Justin Credible was bad enough to begin with and it was his title reign which caused my interest in the promotion to plummet.
Their 'legend' status is highly debatable even in the context of ECW, but I had no time for Lance Storm, either Rotten, Chris Candido, or any incarnation of the FBI after JT Smith.
On the other hand, Sandman, Dreamer, Sabu, the Dudleyz. New Jack.... those dudes ruled.
Lmao at the New Jack. def one of my time all favourites..to each his or her own i guess
as for my least favourite is probably Sandman besides his entrance and a few matches that are vaguely coming to me right now not much was ever memorable about him to me
I like them all when they were in their primes but Rob Van Dam and Tommy Dreamer are my least favourite now.
Rob Van Dam: Very very arrogant man. I read an interview of his where he was talking about how he'd go down in history as a legend. He is talented and will probably go down in history as an ECW legend but in terms of WWE I don't see him as a "legend". I do think he'll be in the Hall Of Fame one day though so maybe he's correct.
Tommy Dreamer: Pretty obvious. He's at the forefront of all these ECW Reunions. He's hired by a TV wrestling company and he's still doing ECW stuff. Honestly Dreamer has not changed at all in 20 years he's still the same guy just fatter and balder now.
i always hated rob van dam when i was growing up his arrogance rubbed me up the wrong way but now i really enjoy his in ring style mostly though mixing the athletic martial arts style with hardcore wrestling. i quite like his "ill do it my way and if you dont like it tough shit" attitude
the one i dislike though is tommy dreamer. he was always so cheesy even as a ECW guy he was cringeworthy. His post ECW stuff like in TNA was horrible. hes always crying. the guy cries in his promos more than ric flair and big show. i just find him very cliche and he just seems the least badass hardcore wreslter ive seen.
I'm amazed some people have gimmicks on a wrestling forum... That's sad.
I think legend is thrown about, and there are handful or so from ECW, 10 at a push. I'm a fan of them all to an extent apart from Dreamer. Actually, I'm a fan, but I just don't understand the level of adoration he gets, some fans treat him like one of the all-time greats and I don't see it. Looking forward to being proved wrong about it though, hoping to make time to rewatch some original ECW throughout their years and may see it.. I just think the last 5 years of him showing up anywhere ECW was mentioned put me off him too.
I think people look at Justin Credible as world champion and think that's him, but The Impact Players were pretty good. Sandman and Sabu where a case of what you see is what you get, whether they're a wrestler that has somehow connected on an immense level who isn't a great worker, or someone who appears genocidal.
Apart from RVD, Jerry Lynn, Raven and New Jack - who isn't great either, imo - who else are ECW legends??
I have to agree with the statements on Tommy Dreamer post-ECW. It's really sad to see. He was great hosting the second Unreleased video though.
Sabu was a mess but that's why I love him. It didn't matter if it was in front of fifty people or five thousand the guy always went one hundred percent.
Sandman is nothing really outside of his entrance. He was good in a multi-person brawl but that was aboot it. I just finished watching the third Unreleased video and he's in the last match, a Double Jeopardy match against Steve Corino, Jerry Lynn and Justin Credible. He doesn't come in until five minutes in and by the time he dragged his ass into the ring two guys were pouring blood and I couldn't help but feel I'd missed something more important.
I did hate Justin Credible for years but watching some of his older stuff now I can appreciate him. Same goes for Steve Corino and Shane Douglas. Douglas especially. He was "mint" in ECW.
I never understood the appeal of CW Anderson but I haven't watch one of his matches in years. Same for Danny Doring, EZ Money, Julio Dinero or any of the lower card guys from the last few years.
I've never had the boner for Jerry Lynn like others did.
And I thought Francine was a dog most of the time except a few times when she did something with her hair.
Shane Douglas- Bigfest crybaby the industry has ever seen. Well, defintely a top 5. I swear there's not a situation that he could not find a way to blame someone else for amd he was barely even mediocre talent wise. Not the guy I would have built my company around.
Sandman- what did this guy do that made him stand out in that crowd? Nothing. His look was terrible. His gimmick was terrible.
New Jack. He scares the fuck out of me, and he couldn't wrestle at all. He just liked to hurt people and that goes against the ethics of wrestling, I feel like. You should protect the guys you're working with, not actively try to harm them.
I actually really like Tommy Dreamer, myself. I think he's a nice guy and a solid worker.
