What Would Your nWo of Looked Like???

As cutting edge and as cool as the nWo was, and still is for that matter, I personally always thought that the addition of some members, took the edge of it, and watered it down somewhat. There were some Wrestlers that had no business been in there, for several reasons.

I always think it could of been something more, had they not added certain characters to the group. The genesis of the nWo had 90's Hip Hop written all over it, so adding guys such as Wallstreet, Vincent, Dibiase, Giant etc, didn't make sense, and just took the edge of it for me. So who should of made the cut in your eyes?

This is how mine would of played out. There is also a little bit of fantasy booking in here, so that it makes sense.

nWo Members 1996-1998 :

1996 -

The 3 Core Members :

Hollywood Hulk Hogan
Kevin Nash
Scott Hall
-
Syxx Pac - (Aligns in July)
Ray Traylor - (Aligns in Sept) - Plays the role of an enforcer (booked stronger)
Konnan - (Aligns in Oct)
nWo Imposter Sting - (Debuts in Sept)
Eric Bischoff - (Aligns the night after Starrcade on Nitro)

1997 -

Hollywood Hulk Hogan
Kevin Nash
Scott Hall
Syxx Pac
Konnan
nWo Imposter Sting
Eric Bischoff
Ray Traylor - (Kicked out in Feb for dropping the ball at the 2 previous PPV's, losing the TV Title at Starrcade to DDP, and costing nWo members their matches)
Buff Bagwell - (Aligns in March) - Screws Scotty Rigs
Stevie Ray - (Aligns in March) - Screws Booker T to cost them the Tag Titles
Nick Patrick - Referee (Revealed as part of the nWo in May to screw Luger out of the Title)
Rick Rude (Aligns in July to screw Hennig out of the US Championship to give Hall the Title)
Scott Steiner - (Aligns in Sept)

After Starrcade things start to fall apart slowly for the nWo, and eventually turns out like this. The Hollywood group disband after Starrcade 98, which just leaves the Wolfpac.

1998 -

nWo Hollywood :

Hollywood Hulk Hogan
Macho Man Randy Savage + Elizabeth - (Aligns in Feb after being a Lone Ranger/Tweener throughout 1997 being with neither WCW or the nWo - Then leaves in July 98)
The Giant (Aligns in July 98)
Scott Hall (Swerves to reunite with Wolfpac)
Scott Steiner
Stevie Ray
Curt Hennig (Later Turns Heel and screws the Horsemen in May 98)
Buff Bagwell (Swerves and aligns with The Wolfpac)
Eric Bischoff
Rick Rude
Dennis Rodman

The Wolfpac :

Kevin Nash
Scott Hall
Syxx Pac (Later leaves for the WWF in March)
Buff Bagwell
Konnan

Nice thread! I loved the theme of former WWF guys "invading" to start the angle off. I think the luster was lost towards late 1997 when the group continued to grow and grow and grow.

I would have kept them as a nicely sized group, but not ridiculous.

- Hollywood Hulk Hogan
- Kevin Nash
- Scott Hall
- Syxx
- Curt Hennig
- Scott Steiner
- Buff Bagwell (Exception to the WWF only rule)
- Rick Rude
- Eric Bischoff

Leave it at that. No crappy Red and Black feud. End in early 1998. You have guys for every title including a dominating tag team that can still main event as well. Plus two managerial / promo guys.

I was quite happy to see Bagwell mentioned in both so far. As much of a laughing stock as he would become, and as fuck awful as he was in later years, before the broken neck, especially in 1997, there really was potential in Buff Bagwell as a heel. He'd done the tours in Japan and got some valuable experience, he was projecting well in his matches, he really had something that could have gone somewhere, far more than history remembers, but alas.

It goes back to the age old dilemma of the nWo - as fans, we always saw it as a stable, but the boss saw it as a brand that would be marketed as it's own show. TBS was asking for Thunder almost a full year before they got it, and the nWo PPV, Saturday Night and hotlines showed they're thinking brand, not stable, throughout late 96 and 97. Of course, the Souled Out buyrate, the fact the hotline bombed and that nWo Nitro was a disaster showed that the people didn't want that.

If that "brand" thought never crosses our mind at the time, I'd have Hogan, Hall, Nash, Bischoff, Syxx, Bagwell, Konnan, Savage, Imposter Sting, Scott Steiner, Curt Hennig and Rodman. Wallstreet, Traylor, Norton, Adams, Stevie Ray, Horace, etc were a total waste in the colours. Rude also did nothing. Vincent you can make an argument for as a stooge lackey type, but Louie Spicolli did better in one night on commentary in the same role than Vincent ever did. I liked DiBiase at the time pre-Bischoff, but in many ways he didn't fit with the style of the group.

Nice to see some appreciation for Bagwell here. I know he's hated amongst the IWC, but like you said, in 97 he had some real potential. He'd gained some real solid heat in 97/98, before his injury. You hit the nail on the head there with how the nWo was perceived between the fans and WCW itself, that was indeed the problem. Like your nWo by the way, Mr Kennedy. P.s I really enjoy your podcast, I've heard everyone. It's top draw! Keep up the good work guys :)

As others have said, Savage didn't fit the bill for me, he was so out of date, exactly what the nWo wasn't at that time. Im surprised how most of you have included Hennig in your group, he was tailor made for the Horseman in 97. Although as part of nWo Hollywood in 98 does appeal to me.

isnt it a little ridicoulous for five people to call themselves the "new world order" and pretend to take over a whole company? they had to be strong in numbers or it wouldnt have worked.

my nwo would pretty much consist of the same wrestlers who were actually part of the nwo in reality. excluding macho man randy savage. he seemed out of place with his 80s ring gear, and it didnt fit his character. he should have stayed opposing the nwo together with luger and sting.

Associate - Miss Elizabeth, Vincent, Bischoff

I would have stopped adding members after they got to about 5 or 6.

Mainly these guys...

-Hogan
-Nash
-Hall
-Savage
-Syxx
-Bischoff

Then... keep teasing the idea of adding guys at different points, but not actually having it happen. I would definitely keep the storyline with them trying to get DDP and Sting. There would be enough material to keep things interesting for awhile.

For everybody saying Savage, isn't it awful to have him in since he's the person Hogan turned against in the BatB match? Savage should've never been in.

NWO had to have loads of members or would have just been another stable. They were supposed to be separate entity almost like another company so it had to have loads of members or it would have been no different to the Horseman.

Hogan
Hall
Nash
Waltman
DiBiase as a manager
Bischoff as his role in nWo
Savage joining later on like he did
Curt Henning w/Rick Rude
Scott Steiner
Buff Bagwell
even they didnt make their names in WWF id include Steiner & Bagwell to the nWo also

Personally, although it did not make much sense, I liked Savage in the group. Thought he looked awesome with the shark teeth shades and the tassles - NWO but Macho style. To me, Savage was a much funnier heel and I just enjoyed him being there. I would remove many others before I removed him. And it gave us the DDP feud which was great.

1. Hollywood Hulk Hogan - The real Triple H brother
2. Kevin Nash - Big Sexy
3. Scott Hall - HEY YO
4. Giant - Did everyone forget about him?
5. Curt Henning
6. Syxx

It should have stopped right there, with Rick Rude in a manager-type role. Bischoff should never have joined. Same with all the jobbers. I would have the group turn on Henning and add Scott Steiner later on.

Any former WWF performer not named Bret Hart. Savage is still so blindly in love with Elizabeth that he joins and Hennig waits a while before leaving the Horsemen in 98 some time after Flair's fall out with Bischoff and joins Hollywood after the split. Luger becomes disillusioned and frustrated with the war against nWo that he joins the Wolfpac in 98.

nWo Hollywood

Hollywood Hogan
Eric Bischoff
Randy Savage (kicked out post-Slamboree after losing #1 Contender's match to Bret)
The Giant
Scott Steiner
Curt Hennig (teased joining Wolfpac but joins Hollywood)
Rick Rude (same as Hennig)
The Disciple
Vincent
Brian Adams

nWo Wolfpac

Kevin Nash
Scott Hall
Konnan (attempts to recruit luchadores but is rebuffed, causing him to rethink his allegiance before getting kicked out in 99)
Lex Luger
Buff Bagwell
Scott Norton

The Hollywood-Wolfpac war ends at Fall Brawl 1998 after months of the WCW Title staying out of nWo hands thanks to Sting & Bret trading it between each other. A War Games match is made where the winners become the official nWo and the losing squad must disband. Wolfpac (Nash, Hall, Konnan & Bagwell) defeats Hollywood (Hogan, Giant, Steiner & Hennig) but Hogan gets the belt back at Halloween Havoc before dropping it to Goldberg at Starrcade. The Outsiders overcome Hall's personal problems and distrust stirred up by former Hollywood members to regain the WCW Tag Titles while the rest of the group feud with Raven's Flock as 98 comes to a close.

I don't really care who else was in it, but I would've added Booker T and Rick Steiner to The Wolfpac after their brothers joined nWo Hollywood.

Have the two set of brothers feud and be on opposing factions, even cross over the two feuds at one point and book Rick & Booker against Scott & Stevie on a PPV.

I get what you mean about the nWo having 90's Hip-Hop written all over it. Booker fits the bill as he's from Harlem. Rick doesn't but his gimmick was the "Dog Faced Gremlin", so it kinda fits in with The Wolfpac.

nWo Hollywood
Hogan
Bischoff
Curt Henning
Scott Norton
Scott Steiner
Brian Adams
The Giant
Buff Bagwell
Vincent

nWo Wolfpack
Kevin Nash
Scott Hall
Konnan
Sting
Lex Luger
Macho Man
Elizabeth
Stevie Ray (briefly)

I would be happy with these rosters for the split, Sting would be WCW until the wolfpack was created.

Wolfpack was always meant as a more insurgent branch of nWo fighting the odds so Hollywood should of had more members.

I am surprised by how few had Giant in there. This is 97-99 Giant not 2015 Big Show. He was a beast back then and real athletic for a big guy. To me that early core of Hogan, Outsiders and Giant was awesome and a real force. Throw in Ted to lead and Syxx for the cruiserweight division and they were SOLID!!

WCW

I'm actually happy with the way it was booked up until 1998, so I'll start from there (finishing at the end of that year).

IN Brian Adams joins in January. After Kevin Nash's evasive skills at Starrcade, The Giant is set to face "nWo's Giant" at Souled Out. We find out during an nWo beatdown of The Giant that it's a new member, Brian Adams. He loses at Souled Out... and is buried thereafter. The Giant and Nash finally meet at Superbrawl, with The Giant getting a clean victory.

IN Dusty Rhodes joins in January. He swerves Larry Zbysko during his match against Scott Hall at Souled Out, exactly as it happened. The reason is given a bit more clarity; he joins to mentor Hall to his maiden world championship. It's to no avail as Sting defeats Hall at Superbrawl (as advertised after his WW3 win, not Uncensored).

OUT Randy Savage is kicked out of the nWo in January. Hogan is livid after Starrcade. He demands Bret Hart. The high-ups at WCW want to run with this, but Bischoff cools the situation down by offering Randy Savage as Bret Hart's first opponent. Hart defeats Savage at Souled Out. After Hart's exit, the nWo come to the ring and Hogan beats up on Savage. Savage continues to come out to nWo music despite not being aligned with the group. He is out with injury by the middle of the year.

IN Rick Martel joins in February. He simply walks out with Bischoff, Adams, Buff, Norton and Vincent on Nitro. We learn that he will be putting Bret Hart through his paces at Superbrawl. Hart defeats Martel. Martel succumbed to injury and retired from professional wrestling. Interesting tidbit: the WCW theme reserved for Rick Martel will be waiting for Owen Hart if WWF is willing to release him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSR4BVVOpQI

IN Disciple joins in March. He gives Hogan the upper hand during his cage match at Uncensored with Savage, exactly as it happened. He is generally used as Hogan's muscle. The exception is a losing effort against Bret Hart.

IN Stevie Ray joins in April. I've brought this event forward to hint at the deterioration of the other great tag team, The Steiners, at the hands of the nWo. Booker T went on a singles run with the TV title, so it really wasn't any of the nWo's doing. But the possibility of a reunion with his brother is permanently lost. They do not face each other.

IN Scott Steiner joins in April. The events of Superbrawl are delayed until Spring Stampede. They are transplanted exactly as they occurred. Seeing as Steiner gifts The Outsiders the tag team titles, the nWo assist him the following night by interfering in his match with DDP for the US title. Steiner defeats DDP.

OUT Curt Hennig is kicked out in August. There should be a bit more explanation offered here. Yes, he was kicked out for undermining some nWo members... but they should have also taken exception to the fact that he couldn't halt the progress of Goldberg. He was injured for the rest of the year. Rick Rude was also taking time off during the back end of the year.

During the summer of '98, Nash, Hall and Konnan (assumes Syxx's position) begin referring to themselves as the Wolfpac. They are generally kept away from the wrongdoings of the rest of the nWo. At this time, only they begin to wear the black and red. They are used more as tweeners during this stretch.

It becomes apparent by Fall Brawl that there are two tiers:

A-Team: Hogan, Nash, Hall and Steiner
B-Team: Ray, Adams, Konnan, Norton, Disciple and Vincent

*Buff is inactive due to injury (he would be B-Team)

WWF

I don't think there's much that can be done. It should have ended prematurely. Hogan turned face. Nash was injured. That's all she wrote. Immediately upon their arrival, I would have had Hennig as the fourth member, once again turning on Flair. I wouldn't have prolonged the angle. HBK never gets the chance to join the nWo.

Hogan, Hall, Nash, Sting, Angle. Sixth member? Sean Waltman.
