Watching Attitude Era. 95% of it sucks so far. Does it get better?

3/4s of 97 was quite good. I'm up to the RAW before WM14 and after ffwding the garbage (recaps, DX monologues, Taker entrances, Kane spots) I can get through each RAW in about 15 mins. There is minimal wrestling and even the quality of matches on the PPVs is poor. The roster is dreadful outside of Stone Cold, Rock, Michaels and Foley. Marc Mero, crap. HHH, crap. Goldust, crap. Truth Commission, NOD, JJ, Light Heavyweights (same 4 guys over and over and over), DOA, Boricuas, LOD, Sable, Luna, Chainsaw Charlie, Vader, Kane, Taker are all boring as f@#k!

What surprises me most is Taker. He has acheived this legendary status, but after watching all of his available matches from 1990 to 1998 so far, I could count on one hand the amount of good matches he's had and still have fingers left over.

So, I ask those who have the knowledge, does it get better than this or am I destined to wear out the ffwd button on the remote?

Did you just type 'would of', 'should of' or 'could of'?

Try 'would have', 'should have' or 'could have' instead, dumbass!

AND...while you're at it, for the love of everything sacred, why not learn the difference between 'your' and 'you're' and 'there', 'their' and 'they're'.

For extra credit:

'Brought' = past of 'bring'. 'Bought = past of 'buy'.

'Loose' = opposite of 'tight'. 'Lose' = misplaced or to be deprived of.

'Wary' = cautious. 'Weary' = tired.

Thank you and good luck.

So you're fast forwarding pretty much the entire show and not enjoying it? I guess you have two options, OP. You can actually watch the programs and try to enjoy them or simply stop watching because you're not enjoying them.

When it comes down to admitting it, the Attitude Era lowcard/midcard was pretty garbage. I liked it as a kid, but I enjoy it ironically now. Al Snow/Bossman/Pepper angle, cringe. Bossman/Big Show/Big Show's passed father angle, cringe. 1999 in particular wasn't all that great. 1998 was better, and of course 1997 was probably the greatest year in WWE history.

The only good about Attitude Era was the focus on Austin, McMahon, Rock, Foley, DX, etc. That sort of distracted us from the other things that were going on that weren't exactly catching the world by storm

If you're looking to enjoy the Attitude Era as an overall great product, embrace the years 2000 and 2001. That is when the in-ring product got better and there were still some cringe-worthy storylines, but not enough to damage your enjoyment of the product. It's no coincidence that Angle, Benoit, Jericho, and Eddie joined the company around this timeframe so we got some incredible midcard feuds and matchups out of it.

Attitude Era was great because it was trash TV. It was Jerry Springer wrestling. Characters and storylines were more important than actual in-ring skill. And everyone had a gimmick, everyone had a story. Mid and undercards mattered. But since actual matches are what you're looking for, stick with things like indie federations. Or you can wait until people like Angle, Jericho and The Radicalz arrive in late 1999.
Fabregas likes this.

So it seems at Summerslam, Brock lesnar wants a piece of me... should I be afraid? I mean, the man ended the streak after all. But I've fought the odds time and time again... I will NEVER BACK DOWN and I will NEVER QUIT! At SummerSlam, if it's a fight that you want, it's a fight you gon' get! So Lesnar!!!! IF YOU WANT SOME COME GET SOME!!! You're all about eat, sleep, conquer the streak. But me, I'm all about HUSTLE LOYALTY AND RESPECT, JACK! So WWE universe, you can rest assured because the CHAMP IZ HEEEURRRR!!!

Taker is kinda like the Bernard Hopkins of wrestling. He reached his prime in his 40's.

Despite his in-ring performances, he was by far the most over guy in 1997, and the second most over guy in 1998.

It gets better once the Radicalz show up in early '00 (the ppvs at least improve drastically); Russo had been gone for a while, and the arrival of two of the best in-ring performers of all time (and two of the more highly-regarded in WCW at the time), plus Jericho and Angle coming in and the rise of Edge & Christian and the Hardys in the latter part of '99, seems to have woken everybody up and made them realize "Wait a minute; why the fuck has our wrestling show been a second-rate Jerry Springer knockoff for the last two years?" And even though '01 is dominated by the disappointing InVasion angle there's still a lot of good stuff there. But yeah, the era as a whole is not as great as it's made out to be.

My Ratings System

DUD/No Stars = I hated it.

★ = I didn't like it.

★★ = Eh. It was there.

★★★ = I liked it.

★★★★ = I loved it.

★★★★★ = I could not have loved it more.

If you watch the Attitude era for the in-ring product then you might as well stop now.

Yep, and he wasn't the 1st option to get the title in early '97.

Re: Watching Attitude Era. 95% of it sucks so far. Does it get better?

I thought it mostly sucked with the exception of the main storylines involving Austin, McMahon, Rock, Mankind ect. i'm talking about 1998-1999 when they relied mostly on juvenile Howard Stern-type shock television.....I thought 2000-2001 was significantly better as an overall product. that's when Russo left and Chris Kreski took over (in my opinion the best writer they ever had along with Heyman)

if you're looking for a great WRESTLING product in 1998, go watch WCW programming from that year
