Heyman said himself the plan was to book Austin to win the ECW title off Whipwreck at November to Remember 95
I even pitched to Steve winning the Title at the November to Remember 1995, but he was such a fan of Mikey Whipwreck, he thought it would be better if Mikey won the match and also, Steve thought it was better for his character."
so my question is what if Austin agreed and won the ECW title off of Whipwreck? How would that've changed the landscape of ECW and maybe the future of WWE?
Don't think it would have changed anything to be honest. Austin knew he was just in ECW while he was recovering from injury and waiting on the call from the WWF. He was never going to be a mainstay there.
For Austin, it was nothing more than a developmental run to raise his stock. I don't think him winning the title keeps him there, in a position where he can turn down Vince.
And if he stays, I don't think he makes ECW any bigger than what they were at the time.
This is actually an interesting question. I'd heard that some of the top ECW guys like Shane Douglas and RVD did make good money in ECW. If he made Austin the champion and paid him as such, maybe Austin isn't as receptive to going to WWE because he said himself he knew the Ringmaster was stupid and would fail but left because he would get paid more than the $500 a week he was making in ECW.
I really don't think anything would have gone differently.
