Today is the 16th anniversary of Owen's tragic passing. Use this thread to remember Owen and discuss favorite moments and matches of "The Rocket", "The King Of Harts" Owen Hart.

Innovator, one of the greatest technical wrestlers, great mind for the business, his style is what high quality aerial wrestling should be about, and most people today have no clue as to how good he really was and just like to lazily assume that he became popular because of what happened at the end.

As far as matches go, I would recommend watching his Stampede Wrestling matches with Mike Shaw, Larry Cameron, Johnny Smith, and Dynamite Kid. His Japanese work was way ahead of its time especially his matches with Jushin Liger, Pegasus Kid (Chris Benoit), and Ultimo Dragon.

Some of my personal favorites from his WWF singles career

1. vs Bret WMX
2. vs Bret Summerslam 94
3. vs Bulldog Raw 97
4. vs 123 Kid Raw 94
5. the lumberjack match with Bret in 95
6. the lion's den and dungeon matches with Shamrock
7. vs 123 Kid KOR 94 (the final match with hall was decent too but I highly recommend the coronation)
8. vs Shawn Michaels (IYH 96)
9. vs Edge (Breakdown 1998)
10. vs Vader (One Night Only 97)

I highly recommend his matches with Flash Funk from 97 & 98.

He blew me away with his first run as The Blue Blazer. he was doing moves that I hadn't seen before. He was booked as a jobber, but damn it, I was impressed with him. His match with Bret at Mania X was his WWF highlight to me. I feel as if he was somewhat underrated because I thought he was a spectacular talent It's hard to believe it's been 16 years. I can still remember that terrible moment when they said he was gone. Such a terrible and completely unnecessary tragedy. RIP, Owen Hart.

I completely agree the tragedy was terrible. What sort of entrance would you have had Owen make at OTE 99 to make it special, short of what happened with the harness?

Great list, oleanderson89!

I would also recommend his match against Austin at Summerslam '97. Forgotten gem right there :mark:

I also want to go back and watch when him and Bulldog lost the titles to HBK and Austin as well as that flag match that had him and the Hart Foundation against Austin, Taker, and I think it was Goldust and Ahmed or some other faces? Been a long time. 1997 was a spectacular year in wrestling :mark:

I agree with you on this. Bret is definitely one of the best technical wrestlers of all time, but after watching Owen Hart's matches, his moves were pulled off with such a good flow.

Owen & Bret had an awesome match on a short-lived WWE tv show. I can't remember the name of the show but for the first episode they main evneted the show with Bret vs Owen and it was probably the best match they ever had.

Another note on Owen is that I think Bret is the best wrestler, ever but when they stepped into the ring together, Owen always outshines Bret.

That was a great match too. It was from 1994 and the show was called Action Zone. I didn't include it cause there were already many matches with Bret in my list. :)

Edit: They also had a classic iron man match at MSG from around that time. Too bad we only have a camcorder version available.
