Just finish the sentence:

The thing I miss the most in pro-wrestling today which I used enjoy/like a lot back then (back then can be AE or Territorial for guys like GreenLawler or even the Original Golden Era for BatKo10) would be

The thing I miss the most in pro-wrestling today which I used enjoy/like a lot back then would be Pile Drivers in all it's glorious variations.

Agree 100%. Every territory had plenty of talent as well. When I was a kid I was a huge Mid-South and WCCW fan. Just thinking about those rosters and looking at the WWE roster now makes my head hurt. For Pete's sake, Mid-South had the likes of Dr Death, Ted Dibiase, Rick Steiner, Sting, Eddie Gilbert, Mr Wrestling II, Kamala, Hacksaw Duggan, JYD, later got the Freebirds and Chris Adams from WCCW, Terry Taylor, Skandar Akbar, Iceman Parsons, Midnight Express/Cornette, Rock and Roll Express, the Guerreros... I could go on and on.

One thing I strangely miss is the smokey haze hanging above the ring at live events and on television. Matches at the old Boston Garden were almost impossible to see through the haze of cigar and cigarette smoke. Seeing the old MSG and Boston shows on the Network in the Old School section bring me back to a simpler, albeit unhealthier, time.

The thing I miss the most in pro-wrestling today which I used to enjoy/like a lot back then are cheating tactics in tag team matches. I hardly ever see heel tag teams cheat anymore during their matches and it's something that's been bugging me for a long time. The only time I see any cheating in tag team matches is if one of the competitors is thrown out the ring and a manager or the partner attacks them on the outside behind the refs back. But the rest of the match both the babyface and heel tag teams are wrestling straight up matches.

What happened to grabbing a partner's hand for leverage while having the opponent in a submission hold (ala Abdominal Stretch) or a tag team double-teaming their face opponent while the ref holds back the face's partner. What about the heel's partner entering the ring and slapping his own hand while the referee is distracted with the face's partner, to make the ref think that a tag is being made when it isn't, and the other heel partner just exits and stands on the ring apron.

It's no wonder why people shit on tag team wrestling these days.

I also miss Figure Four Leglocks around the ringpost, which was a Bret Hart special back in the day. I saw Tyler Breeze use it on Hideo Itami on the last Takeover event and it brought back memories of that spot for me. I wish we would see it used more today.

Cody Rhodes was using the ring post figure four a couple years ago. I agree it's a cool move

I miss masked men who are not luchadors or cruiser weights, booked as top shelf heels or faces.

When I was very small it was a masked man who pulled me into the world of wrestling.

It was Angelo Poffo in a mask, Randy Savage's father.

I was immediately thrust into a world of heros and villians.

Then as I got older I always enjoyed the mystery of the masked man. Whether they were jobbers, or main event guys it did not matter, I liked them.

I understand the arguments against but to me the WWE is missing a golden opportunity here.

Sami Zayn would be far better off as El Generico to me.

And I miss actually feuds using gimmick matches as the apex of their feud. Somewhere along the way the WWE decided that a good cage match was something that happened when they needed ratings instead of actually using these matches when the feud had reached the boiling point.

If I start to reminisce about all the things that I miss I would probably go and hang myself in the closet. :lol

I'll pass on this question and just be an observer! :popcorn

Everybody on the show had something to do and had some kind of relationship with the audience.

I miss the time when the majority of the matches in the states didn't have some kind of interference, use of weapons, and dq finishes.

I miss when wrestling shows were more dimly lit. There is something about how bright the WWE shows are tat turns me off. It just has a more special feel to me when a wrestling show is darker, putting the focus on the ring.

I miss dominate heel champions (save brock lesnar). To many long face title runs imo. to many cowardly heel champions, stuff puts me to sleep.

I miss nature boy ric flair's promo's.

Heel managers who manage more than one wrestler at a time (aka like Bobby Heenan - Andre, Perfect, Haku, Brainbusters, Rude; Jimmy Hart - Earthquake, Bravo, Honky Tonk Man, Mountie, Nasty Boys, Money Inc).

Nearest we've come in the modern age is Paul Heyman, but his managing roles don't last too long.

Managers, screaming pre-recorded promos, GOOD HEEL ANNOUNCERS, stalling (as in Memphis style), jawing with the crowd, proper powerslams.

(Edit) Number one = when the focus was on the image of the performers and the contest and not on the latest product to sell the audience.

Wrestlers interacting with fans. One of the best events I ever went to was a house show in a small town a few years back. Maybe thousand people there. Before the main event of punk vs big show. Punk spends ten minute running down the crowd, drawing massive heat. He called out individuals in the audience. It took me back to flair calling kids fat boy or Steiner going up right to wives and having them rub him down.

I also hate how Roman reigns smiles during matches. At payback he kept smiling at dean for kicking out. Your in a fight for the most prized possession in wrestling, don't be smiling,be pissed. This isn't just him, others do it to.

Also I really miss fighting champions. Rollins and Orton both hade the authority. Rollins doesn't need it. Have him beat guys on his own.

I also miss managers

I really miss the excitement when a wrestler would jump from the competing federation and debut on the other. I loved when someone I enjoyed watching in WCW or WWF would show up in the other after they signed a deal like when Ric Flair jumped ship to WWF, Steiner brothers heading to WWF, Legion of Doom, and later with Hall/Nash, etc. I really enjoyed that aspect. That doesn't really happen anymore...I mean sometimes people get fired from WWE and sign a TNA contract or something but it doesn't feel the same due to the lack of surprise that we had back in the day. Obviously the internet spoils that part anyways.

I'm well aware that the type of wrestling I love(d) is dead and never coming back. But....

Heels being hated and faces being loved.

Crowds being into stuff instead of shitting on it. I watched a lot of 1995 WWF a few weeks back. That's generally considered a low point in US wrestling. But you know what? Even those crowds were hot!

Gimmicks. There have been far too many bland Johnny Bootandtights types since about the early 2000s. I blame smarks. I usually do.
