Why was The Rock and HHH feud in 2000 so one sided?

This has always bothered me. When HHh and Rock started feuding in 2000 from January to July, HHh always got the upper hand. Even their matches on Raw and SD, Rock lost more to HHH than HHH did to Rock. First if all, whose idea was it for HHH to walk out of Wrestlemania still the Champion? Rock never walked out of Wrestlemania as a champion. Which isn't fair at all! Rock should have won fair and square and Rock should have used is power to change the outcome since Rock was Vince's money maker. Then Rock lost at Judgement Day to HHH after holding the title for a month and then Rock pinned VINCE out of all people to win the title back! Rock didn't even pin HHH. Was this because of HHH's ego and secretly dating Stephanie? It made Rock look so weak. Sometimes I think Vince does not deserved Rock back then. He made the crossover appeal and makes the WWF more mainstream which Vince craved, but Vince always sided with Triple H!!

Once again the IWC focuses too much on wins and losses. It didn't matter that The Rock lost to Triple H more times. The Rock still came out looking good at the end of the day. You're looking way too much into this if you think The Rock looked weaker then HHH did. Almost everytime The Rock lost, he always looked strong in defeat. Triple H always cheated to win, always used the numbers game to his advantage, or used weapons, or used his power and influence.

Either way The Rock and Triple H complimented each other back then, and that was what was so great about their rivalry.

100% true. I've been fighting this for so long and is my main argument when discussing Bray Wyatt

You probably already know the answer to that question.

"Am I fucking going over?"

The Rock was more entertaining when he was chasing the belt. He never lost to triple h cleanly (wm screwed by vince, JD by taker/dq/hbk)

Furthermore, haitch went over at mania because austins return got delayed, this set up backlash which is one of the defining attitude era main events and broke records.

They were both equal in the feud, triple h was a great heel, Rock was a kick ass face, the feud had storyline, suspension and great pay offs which makes it one of the greatest, and makes a mockery of the subsequent lazy triple h/john cena burials

Who cares, it was a great feud the way it was and I wouldn't change a thing. If Rock and Triple H had traded the championship back and forth so much, you'd probably still create this thread and moan about the title being hot potatoed too much in their feud.

If it weren't one sided and Rock had beaten Triple H sometime before Backlash, Rock's victory at Backlash wouldn't have been as special as it was. Rock chasing after Triple H and the belt was much better for that feud than Rock being the champion.

And Rock didn't look weak at all in his losses to Triple H because he never lost clean. He still looked strong while taking defeat.

Austin never beat HHH either and Foley got steamrolled by him too. It's the price of playing the game. The only AE character who got the better of him booking wise was Undertaker.

The reason I think he was booked so strong in 2000 though was because they wanted a 1a, 1b scenario that way Austin can feud with HHH in the run up to Mania and then go to Rock afterwards. HHH can't say he ran the WWF in Austin's absence if he was Rock's whipping boy.

Rock never ran WWF during that time, he was a huge star yeah, but he would do whatever they asked of him. Dude was Cena-like in just going with the flow. Hardly a guy who questioned his spot or creative because he was confident that he was bulletproof.....unlike a certain Rattlesnake who questioned who he would work with and Rocl was the guy who had to feud with Austins scraps until he left to get his neck fixed.

Im new to the forums so idk how to quote so you'll pardon me on that. Anyway, I agree with Deezy in that the Rock coming up short made the fans all the happier when he did win. He always looked strong in defeat because hhh always had to cheat. Plus Rock pinned HHH in that triple threat at SS2000 so Id say he proved himself

Probably because he was The Rock and unlike triple H the booking, the belt, the match results, the attire etc simply does not matter.

Him along with Kenta Kobashi and Piper represents a unique talent who would be over with crowd just by being themselves and nothing more. You can put The Rock in a drag and job him to Brooklyn Brawler and people would still cheer/boo but get behind the Rock.

Triple H however needed to be booked strong and dominant to get the crowd to react. So why would you let Rock shine through booking and get one star leaving triple H cold when you can get two by booking triple H stronger.

Triple H was a heel machine being built from when he won the title in 1999. This makes the babyface pay off all the more satisfying. Clearly they wanted to add even more to this heel machine story so they needed Vince to turn on Rock. What better way to get Rock angry than screw him out of the title. And build this big McMahon/Helmsley faction. Yeah they could have rushed it and had Vince allign with Trips on RAW in March but why rush? They wanted the McMahon in every corner gimmick so it made sense.

This is all pretty basic wrestling booking that I still don't get why people don't understand.
