How Hogan fucked Sting 97/98

As an old WCW fan, I never got over how they completely fucked up the climax to their longest, strongest, most logical feud of all time. I wasn't that smart back then, but even I knew that was bullshit.

To those who know: how did the catastrophic Starrcade 97 main event come into being? I can't believe that Bischoff planned exactly that ending. He was actually good back then.
My guess is that, since Hogan wouldn't lose to anyone clean under any circumstances, he just had to make it an irregular ending, even being the biggest heel ever.

And the fuckery didn't even end there, they did that stupid thing where they vacated the title, and on Superbrawl 98, they did a fucking screwjob AGAIN.
They killed and buried Sting dead.

Now, what was going on there? Was that Hogan's creative control bullshit, or did the bookers legitimately think that was a good idea?

I know in a technical sense he joined the nWo by joining the Wolfpac, but I never really looked at it that way. Even though the Wolfpac was technically the nWo they were good guys, and they were the enemy of the real nWo. I looked at Sting and Luger joining them as what they thought was their best option of fighting the evil within their company because at least they would finally have a group of guys they could depend on in the war. Now, obviously Luger would eventually join up with the main group whenever the nWo factions joined back up, but I never had a problem with him and Sting joining up with the Wolfpac. Besides, Sting joining was mostly due to his best friend Luger being in the group, and not because he wanted to join up with Nash.

How the hell did hogan fuck sting?

Hogan has NEVER went over on sting once EVER in any promotion, think about that, what other top guy that hogan has worked with for that long can say that?

Sting got the belt and proved he couldnt handle the position, who was he gonna work with after hogan?

Goldberg? lol, theyve never had good matches and neither of them talked

Luger? Saw that in 1991

Flair? Saw that in fucking 1988

Warrior? LOL

Booker T, DDP and Scott Steiner weren't on the level yet to main event

Benoit wasnt over enough

Jericho was a midcard joke

Hogan getting the belt back was what was best for business and sting sliding back down the card was good for him as he had gotten out of shape and teaming with the wolfpac nwo kept him involved.

Bret maybe?

- Sting beats Hogan in their official rematch at Superbrawl
- Sting goes through Hall (Souled Out), Savage (Uncensored), Nash (Spring Stampede) & Luger (Slamboree) along the way
- Bret beats Sting at Great American Bash
- Bret retains against Hogan at Bash at the Beach
- Bret retains against in a nWo vs. WCW Battle Royal by eliminating Giant last at Road Wild
- Sting gets the title back at Fall Brawl
- Hogan beats Sting (Raven and his Flock interfere) at Halloween Havoc so he can drop it to Goldberg at Starrcade 98

But then again, Sting did have drug problems around this point in time so perhaps you're right LOL

Hulk Hogan is so delusional that he thinks that he should get the strap one more time. Anyway I hated the fact that he brought in the Warrior in 1998 just to satisfy his own ego. They could have made a good amount of money had they used the Warrior properly and put him in the ring with somebody who could actually move around unlike Hogan.

Hogan no doubt did things to damages other wrestlers, directly or indirectly.

And Starrcade 97 may have been one of these cases.

But you also have to consider that Eric Bischoff was a sucker for controversies and stealing the WWF's thunder and if they brought Bret Hart in during the Hogan-Sting match wasn't a coincidence. Eric wanted to re-do Montreal. And have the Hogan-Sting match end in controversy. That was really what was going on here.

Then they milked that match a few more times. First on Nitro where they said "alright, it wasn't clean, the title is held up, let's have a re-match to be fair". But those clever cats ended Nitro before the match ended. Aparently Sting won but Evil nWo didn't want to tape to be shown. So the title was undecided again. Until the next PPV where Sting finally beat Hogan clean.

Bullshit,

fucking flair couldn't make himself a household name and BOMBED as wwf champion, nobody even questioned him dropping the title to a midcarder on a random house show out of the blue:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...g-historical-impact-of-bret-hart-vs-ric-flair

MILLIONS saw Lex beat hogan for the wcw title and lost their fucking minds as this match was the MOST watched match in history at that time:

Luger had no momentum in 1995 as the lex express project was a complete and utter FAILURE and lex was left in a lame ass tag team with the british bulldog.

The Starcade 97 match was booked terribly.

The rumour was that the referee was mean't to do a fast count on Sting after the leg drop, which was the logic behind Bret coming out and restarting the match. But the referee performed a 3 count with perfect cadence causing Hogan to go over completely clean. It was either a botch or (for you conspiracy theorists) Hogan had a part in it.

How Hogan fucked Sting in 97/98?:rockwut

Never knew Hogan was **** brother:lol:hogan2

But in all seriousness, yes Sting was definitely screwed by Hogan especially at Starcade 97. It was WCW's biggest drawing PPV for GOD's sake, and people paid to watch Sting finally defeat Hogan(as leader of NWO)fpalm

It's weird though because at the beginning of their Starcade match you would expect Sting to charge out and put a beating on Hogan early, to a huge pop, Hogan would then manage to get the upper hand via some cheap heel tactic and the match would continue from there.

Instead Hogan starts the match by beating the holy hell out of Sting. It made sting look very weak

I could see Luger joining the nWo in 98 if he was pushed to do so. Let's say after Sting beats Hogan at Starrcade 97 but he refuses to celebrate with the rest of WCW. He just continues being the anti-sociable, lone wolf he was before. Luger is obviously jealous that Sting got way more attention for beating Hogan for the title than when he did at Road Wild 97. Basically, the fans and WCW are choosing a vigilante over a legit WCW hero so Luger is PISSED.

As a result of this, Luger grows more and more impatient with Sting as well as the fans who still support Sting's ways. At around Slamboree 98, Luger finally goes one-on-one with his former best friend for the title but loses due to his temper. Post match, he kicks Sting's ass and berates the fans for cheering for him. According to Luger, he's more WCW than Sting is, so Sting doesn't deserve the savior status he has or the WCW Title.

And by the fall, he can join nWo Hollywood as he now wants to destroy the "corrupt failure" that is WCW.

Without Hollywood, Sting's change would be ice cold and only slightly above Earthquake becoming Shark.

Hollywood made him a star. He made the angle, the feud, the rivalry. Sting didn't even talk ffs who was supposed to sell the match. Hollywood cut some of the best promos and did the best acting during those segments to make Sting look like a star.

Respect the legend:

You giving Hogan way too much credit.

A group effort made Sting & that angle.

The nWo for convincing people Sting joined. The Horsemen who, based on their history with Sting, were certain he turned his back on them. Luger, who was torn between what he "saw" and his best friend trying to convince him it wasn't him. And WCW, as a whole, for turning their back on Sting.

Sting didn't have to talk to sell the feud. According to Sullivan, the positive response to Sting's mute character is why they pushed the match back from Superbrawl to Starrcade. Sting sold that feud better in silence than he could with words. His actions are what mattered and his actions spoke volumes. It's like saying Sabu was carried in every feud because he never talked but like Sting, when he finally did, those few words were beyond important and got the character over even more.

Sting didn't talk because that WAS his selling point. And when he finally spoke, it was magic.

"You got no guts! And you! You're a dead man!"
