I liked Uncensored '97 and '98 legitimately. Not great shows, but good shows, and all of them had some terrible moments on them (that Hogan/Savage cage match was crap in '98, but the rest of the show was good).
The main event of Uncensored '97, while weird, had some pretty high stakes and felt important. There was a lot of great stuff with DDP, Raven, and Benoit in '98.
I don't know if there is any other PPV series out there with more awful moments than the Uncensored PPV's.
Uncensored had The King Of The Road match, Meng and Jim Duggan in a martial-arts match, the Doomsday Cage match, Savage-Hogan's Steel Cage match, Flair-Hogan's double turn, Lumberjacks With Casts match, and Yappapi Indian Strap match.
Uncensored's only great moments are the DDP-Raven-Benoit match and when Sting attacked the nWo & revealed he was on WCW's side.
I don't think it was that bad an event, the Fall Brawl series did way worse in my book for example.
1995 was dumb though, first of all, my GOAT Sting lost to fucking Big Bubba, and secondly, Hogan winning the strap match against Vader by dragging Flair to all four posts?!
And why was Hogan's belt not on the line if he won the match anyway?
It's not like in 1996, when Piper beat Hogan, and nobody was ever told the match was non-title.
Sting and Scott Hall being given only 8 minutes in the semi-main event for the fucking title in 1998 was atrocious.
VIP members of MLW Radio get to hear Kevin Sullivan tell nightmare stories from WCW. He did 2 or 3 episodes about Uncensored 96 and how much of a cluster fuck the main event was.
The King of the Road match has to be both the best and worst of Uncensored if that's possible. I mean it got the point across that anything can happen but having a match in the back of a moving truck is borderline ridiculous....almost as much as claiming they were moving at speeds over 55mph when it was more like 5 on a country road and then firing both Dustin Rhodes & Blacktop Bully for bleeding too much..in an anything goes, no rules match at an event named Uncensored (Another example of WCW's brilliance in action).
Uncensored 2000 imo was the worst uncensored ppv as a whole. Matches were all screwy. Crap main event. I am and was a wcw guy but its hard to defend garbage like that lol...crazy how fast a wrestling promotion can go from on top of the world to in the shitter.
I would say from 95 to 99 they were all pretty solid. I think most WCW PPVs around that time of 95 to early 99 were good with the exception of Starrcade 97 for whatever reasons. I'm not just talking about the the Hogan-Sting match but the whole show was sub-par, it's like every wrestlers were phoning it in, even the best like Malenko and so forth. I don't know if it was out of protest of management but the whole vibe was strange. Maybe it's cause EB took his eyes out of the ball or what cause of his program with Larry Z.
1998 although it was bullshit the main event was ruled a No Contest when Savage clearly beat Hogan by escaping the steep cage.
