Why did Roma's push die in WCW?

I recently watched Roma's last PPV match, an encounter with Alex Wright at SuperBrawl V. I was kind of struck at how much Roma outclassed Wright that night with his in ring performance. Given his athleticism, relative intensity, and look, why did WCW give up on Roma? Was the stigma associated with his jobbing in the WWE years earlier too much to overcome?

The only push Roma ever deserved was one off the nearest cliff.

Re: Why did Roma's push die in WCW?

He was told to put over Alex Wright on PPV and got fired afterwards when he refused to cooperate with Das Wunderkid in the ring when match time came.

Because Roma wasn't that good a wrestler. Perhaps the worst member of the Four Horsemen ever.

From what I understand and I could be misremembering, but I am pretty sure most of the guys in the back could not stand him, was he not a malcontent?

So killing his momentum was not difficult on a personal level.

Re: Why did Roma's push die in WCW?

He may have been able to overcome the backstage stuff if he actually had a personality, but to me he was always just another guy. Sure he was built and looked good, but there were a lot of good looking guys in that era. He really didn't have a great mic presence and his ring presence wasn't all that great. He wasn't horrible in the ring, but he definitely wasn't far above average.

The job guy from the WWE

Even Mongo was a better Horsemen. As awful as he was in the ring, he at least has the personality and fit the group. Roma was just a body and comes across as a bitter bitch in his shoot interview.

I remember me and my brother had like 30+ action wrestling figures and nobody ever wanted to play as Paul Roma lmao.
