Default CHECK THIS ONE OUT - TRUST ME, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED

I don't want to inundate the Classic Section with Buddy Rogers/Lou Thesz matches, but this one is worth checking out. Believe me, you will NOT be disappointed.

The Chicago Film Archives just put this one up. While the date is not indicated, I checked with the Wrestling Data Base and someone with wrestling connections to verify when this match actually took place and came up with 1950. That would make it the oldest match on film between Rogers and Thesz.

First of all, I'm posting this video to demonstrate how Buddy's matches against the same opponent were always different. This one is a year earlier than the other match I posted yet demonstrates more showmanship, is faster, more off the mat, and ends with a winner in what is one of the most dangerous manuevers I've ever witnessed in a pro-wrestling match.

I don't want to ruin the ending, so I will just say that I've seen the photo of the ending numerous times in Wrestling Revue and other wrestling magazines back in my day, but never saw the match. Well, here it is.

The 3 falls last only 36 minutes (compared to nearly one hour for the other match). For those who have an interest, please, do NOT fast forward to the end. You will ruin the buildup for yourself. The end is absolutely freaking insane and could have very well ended with a wrestler becoming a quadraplegic.

Watch, enjoy. Those of you who are fed up with me can cuss me. No problem!

- Mike

I was messing around with the "print screen" feature on the computer and then actually did some "pasting" and "cropping" to come up with the photos of the finale of the match posted below. Hey, this dinosaur may become a computer genius if this keeps up!

At this point in time in the thread I don't think I'm ruining the finale. Seeing these photos should only make the reader want to see the match.

The promoter for the two Lou Thesz/Buddy Rogers matches and the Buddy Rogers/Haystacks Calhoun match that I posted was FRED KOHLER. In fact, Kohler was the promoter for all the matches on the recently released videos from the Chicago Film Archives to which the above name mentioned videos belong. His promotion was part of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA).

Kohler was the big cheese in Chicago in the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. He promoted all the shows at Comiskey Park and the Chicago Amphitheater as well as smaller venues in the Chicago area.

Kohler withdrew his promotion from the NWA and joined the nascent WWWF due to his strong relationship with Buddy Rogers. Buddy did one of his first WWWF title defenses in the Chicago Amphitheater against Killer Kowalski which kind of sealed the deal of the WWWF gaining the Chicago territory from the NWA.
