Default Why did Taker turned on Jake Roberts?

Ive senn the videos a hundred times when Savage is going to the gorilla position where Robers is hiding with a chair in his hand. Taker for some reason stopped him and I cant remember anything leading to Takers reasoning to grab the chair from him.

1. Was there a good backstory?
2. Was it an overall good face turn and whats your opinion on the whole thing?

I don't think there was much of a backstory (other than the fans warming up to a face run for the Undertaker) but it showed that Jake the Snake was an even bigger "monster" than the monster himself, since he was willing to assault a woman.

Overall, I feel it was a good move because the fans couldn't hate the Undertaker like they hated Jake. It put a lot of heat on Roberts and allowed Undertaker to go into yet another phase for his character which is what allowed him to stay fresh throughout his career.

Taker was getting huge pops at that point. Made sense to turn him face. IIRC there was no build up really. Go back to a few months earlier when Taker won the title from Hogan at Survivor Series. Huge pop when he got the three count. That character was over as fuck. I was at a house show in 1991 and the main event was Warrior/Taker in a bodybag match and the crowd was basically 50-50. Warrior won (weird) and ran out of the ring and the bodybag sat up. Crowd popped stupid hard and Warrior was as hot as just about anyone ever in the business at that time.

Wasn't Jake going to smack Liz with the chair, and that's when Taker stopped him? I think I vaguely remember something about that.

Yeah, Undertaker didn't think it was right for Jake The Snake to hit Liz with a chair after he lost to Macho Man. He didn't like that Jake was a sore loser, and decided Jake wasn't his friend.

I believe he was going to hit Elizabeth with the chair and thats why Taker stopped him. But for some reason my memory must have gotten screwed up b/c I thought Jake slamming the casket on takers hand on the funeral parlor happened first. Either way, it was time for Taker to become babyface.

Even Undertaker thought Roberts went too far by trying to attack Elizabeth and the rest is history.

It happened afterwards.
