Did WWE water down Stone Cold in 98/99???

Been watching a lot of the network, and Stone Cold was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more intense during his 96/mid 97 run.

Ive always known this, but Im not sure if anyone else noticed.

'96 Stone Cold was (arguably) one of the greatest heels off all time.

However, during 98/99 it seems that the WWE lightened up his character a bit. Not to the point of totally turning him soft, but I feel like a lot of that intensity was lost

Well, yeah. His original character was heel-like and didn't care about anything or anyone. That had to change when he had to market himself to the fans and run as the top face in the company.

Wanted:

A tall well built woman with good
reputation, who can cook frogs
legs, who appreciates a good fuc-
schia garden, classical music and tal-
king without getting too serious.
But please read only lines 1, 3 and 5.

His character was a bit more intense, in his DVD he stated that his gimmick was based on a steely cold killer.

Well in '98/'99 he was a face. He needed to come off as likeable at least in the sense of being someone you'd enjoy drinking a beer with.

Yes, but that's what you have to do to create a brand. He went from the guy with a chip on his shoulder to actually being the man so the adjustments had to be made.

This is why I always thought Punk was nothing more than the chase. He had that 96-97 Austin edge but it takes that gimmick to actually take the next step.

Watered down implies lesser. Babyface Austin was BY FAR the best Austin. BY FAR, him as a heel doesn't even come close to him as a babyface against Vince.

He wasn't as evil, because his original gimmick was based on Richard Kuklinski, but they certainly didn't tone down the content of what he was doing.

Episode 90 - New Spider-man, Terminator & Arkham Knight

What a week for all the things we talk about! A new Spider-man, news on a solo Batman film, Suicide Squad and Star Trek (Track). Plus we get into Batman: Arkham Knight and what we sort of remember from all the Terminator movies. Thanks for listening!

96 Austin vs Bret feud > Austin vs McMahon

Thats just my personal preference.

Both GREAT feuds, but him vs Bret in 96 was

Everything else in wrestling history combined is not > Austin vs McMahon. That's just my personal preference.

I seriously couldn't give one shit about Bret's bland ass, and Austin's most entertaining content was against Vince. Austin vs McMahon ended up cursing wrestling because it was impossible to top, it makes anything else look bad.

Original Austin also talked really slow in his promos (before he Southerned it up) like he was a man possessed. It was creepy.

Austin was also more cut in 96.

If you compare his physique from 96 to 96, he got a little chubby
