Today marks the day...18 Years Later

Today (6/23) marks 18 years since the 1996 King of the Ring, which featured Steve Austin's infamous "Austin 3:16" speech that changed the course of wrestling history forever.

What are your memories of that day? (If or when you saw it)

I remember thinking Stone cold was a badass before he said it, but after it happened he was just THE GUY.

It also makes me think..Damn I'm old, I was 5 years old when that PPV was airing.

I totally remember that night, didn't Austin get his lip stitched up halfway through the show?

Yes. Mero's foot caught his mouth and busted him open. I believe he left to get it stitched up at the hospital. Arrived back at the arena just in time to go on. He had someone give him a rundown about what Roberts said before the match. He had mentioned John 3:16, and it clicked with Austin.

Re: Today marks the day...18 Years Later

I never saw the Austin 3:16 speech when it happened. The first time I saw Austin was when he wrestled Bret Hart at Survivor Series 96. Since I was only 6 at the time, I didn't really see the appeal. He was just a bad guy to me. Fast forward a few years and suddenly he was my favourite wrestler.

"Imagine the worst situation - we lose Fabregas and Nasri. You cannot convince people you are ambitious after that. You cannot pretend you are a big club. A big club holds onto its big players and gives a message out to all the other big clubs that they just cannot come in and take [players] away from you." - Arsene Wenger

I loved the way Jake put over Austin in that match, I remember really hating Austin as a kid after watching that lol. The man played a great heel back them! I was only 13 at the time though
