Vertical Scope and their tech team

For anyone who doesn’t know who Vertical Scope is, they are the owners of this forum.

Since they took over it’s been problem after problem. Whether it be constant server problems, no search, plug-ins not working correctly, the sites layout being messed up and the staff not being able to moderate properly because of problems within the moderator control panel.

Recently myself, Platt & Rajah were meant to walk out after the Administrator account logged in to the Admin CP and removed all our permissions so we had Super mod permissions. So it looked like they wanted to be in control of the site? Fair enough if they were going to be active but they’re never online. Of course Vertical Scope denied messing with our powers although the logs state different. They can’t even say they had been hacked because of the logged IP address under the Administrator account for the logs that edited our permissions. Platt chickened out of the “strike” and decided he wanted to be the only Admin so it was just me and Rajah that walked.

Before we walked I used the contact-us link at the bottom of the forum and informed VS that if they wanted to run the site and be online the majority of the day looking after the site of this size then they can feel free. The contact-us link is the only way we can get in touch with them. They never repliy to emails although truebluefan seems to have started replying to his PM's since this fiasco.

The strike lasted one day because when we logged in the day after all our permissions had been set back to how they should have been, full control apart from the tech side from things.

So we had our powers back and things were back to normal our end. But still we had the server problems, the problems accessing the mod cp, the list goes on.

The Admin CP
Vertical Scope has an extra layer of protection so to speak when you access the Admin CP. They have their own default username and password and then your own when you first try and log in. Last night though for some reason it didn’t matter what page you clicked on in the Admin CP you had to pass the extra layer of protection. Some clicks it never worked. It would say password unrecognised while other times it worked. So we have another bug. Fine it will be fixed in about 3 years as long as I report it the next working day.

This morning I report the bug and I get a timely response for once from our forum manager truebluefan. He explains that it’s a bug within the Firefox browser and we have to switch to Internet Explorer. Err yeah right whatever; it’s not as if this bug has been happening since Firefox 3 was released. It’s also happening on Firefox 2. Why the hell have we got to use Internet Explorer to admin the forums correctly? We can’t even read full posts using Internet Explorer because of the words cut off in quotes; it’s slower responsive than Firefox because of all the advertisements. Oh wait, that’s why they want us to use Internet Explorer because Firefox has blocks their advertisements.

What’s next? I bet there will be a new “bug” that appears so the site isn’t functional with Firefox for members so they all have to switch to Internet Explorer and view their advertisements.

So yeah we can’t Admin the forums at the minute and I am not switching to another browser. I don’t know if Platt or Rajah will. That’s up to them. You would think they would just switch off this extra layer of protection but apparently not. They want us to see the adverts.

Every problem is always a bug either within a browser or it’s a vBulletin problem. It’s never theirs. Strange considering every time they log in to the Admin CP they fuck something up.

But hey, members will keep signing up and buying memberships that are going towards new badass servers and a fully functional site.

Just to clarify. Miz knew what he was doing, Vertical Scope don’t.

I have seen plenty of sites like that.

Although the long threads that are active can be a problem. I know of a few forums on IB.Pro and vBulletin that cannot handle big threads that are constantly being refreshed and posted in. So there is one problem there that is down to the board hosts.

They will have a larger server.

Forums going slow has nothing to do with the forum software, you could have unlimited posts in a thread if you liked. It's just down to the server been able to cope with it.
