Default WWF vs WCW - An all out war

The main event of the April 2 2001 edition of Raw was set to have The Rock challenge Stone Cold Steve Austin in a Steel Cage match for the WWF Title. "The People's Champion" was looking for revenge following a double cross by Austin and Vince McMahon the previous night at Wrestlemania X7, a night that also saw Vince lose to his son, and WCW Owener, Shane in a brutal Street Fight.

Midway through the match Rock plants Austin with a Rock Bottom and looks set to regain his WWF Title, the Texas crowd is going wild. Suddenly, as the referee's count reaches 2, the arena lights go out. The arena falls deadly silent, but the silence is broken by the sound of WCW legend Ric Flair's theme music. The lights come back on to see Ric Flair and his Magnificent Seven (Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, Lex Luger and Animal) storm the ring. They proceed to attack The Rock as Austin rolls out of the ring and escapes to the top of the ramp with McMahon, who was at ringside prior to the attack. After throwing Rock into the cage and beating him down with a steal chair, leaving him a bloody mess, Flair grabs a microphone and runs down the WWF. He said that the actions of McMahon at Wrestlemania just showed the way that he runs his business, crooked and corrupt. He said that although he had nothing but respect for The Rock, that this was now a war, and a soldier is only as good as his general, so all WWF superstars need to be held accountable for the sins of Vince McMahon.

He then goes on to introduces WCW's general, Shane McMahon, who comes out, passing his father and an exhausted Austin, who look shocked at what they are seeing. When he reaches the ring he climbs to sit on the top of the cage where he likens this night to the Normandy Landings of World War 2 and officially declares war on the WWF. He tells Vince to ready his troops because Raw and Smackdown are now a battleground and "you don't want to get in the way of the WCW war machine".

Only once organisation can prevail in the coming months, but who will it be?
