Default Evolution of Honor Wrestling

OOC: This is my first attempt at a BTB Thread. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot!

Jan. 3, 2013

Breaking News: Ring of Honor and Dragon Gate USA/EVOLVE Wrestling have announced a merger after both wrestling companies were bought by an unnamed investor.

Sinclair Broadcast Group decided to sell the wrestling company after ROH World Champion Kevin Steen successfully defended the ROH World Title against El Generico in a brutal Ladder War at Final Battle 2012. This move comes as a result of Steen and his faction S.C.U.M., which is made up of Steve Corino and Jimmy Jacobs, vowing to kill Ring of Honor and create a company in their own image.

"It saddens us to announce the selling of ROH," said an SBG spokesperson. "Kevin [Steen] and his cronies destroyed what was once a great wrestling company. Generico was the last hope to save the company and keep it from delving into complete chaos. We cannot support S.C.U.M.'s behavior and continue to allow it on our television networks."

ROH isn't the only major independent wrestling company closing, as the unnamed investor also bought Dragon Gate USA/EVOLVE Wrestling, also known as the WWNLive Universe.

The WWNLive Universe was struggling to stay in business due to poor ticket sales and low iPPV buyrates. Former Vice President of DGUSA and co-owner of EVOLVE Gabe Sapolsky said he is grateful for the new investor.

"We couldn't keep going with the money we were bringing in," Sapolsky said. "We offered great wrestling, but we were afraid we were going to have to shut the doors completely. At least now the wrestlers will get to continue doing what they do best."

The new company, which is being rumored to be called Evolution of Honor Wrestling, has yet to confirm a final roster or set a debut date. The investor could not be reached for comment, but a source close to the situation said he wishes to keep the focus off himself and on the wrestling.

Keep checking back for more information on this huge development.

I'm not familiar with their products, but am aware of the companies and some of the talents seen within both. This is really neat and I don't think I've ever seen this done before. I look forward to seeing what happens and hopefully give some insight if I can. Good luck with your first BTB

News and Notes

More information regarding the new wrestling promotion was revealed in a YouTube video featuring former Vice President of Dragon Gate USA and co-owner of EVOLVE Gabe Sapolsky. Here is a transcript of what he said in the video:

Quote:
Hello wrestling fans. I’m Gabe Sapolsky. I’m here to say the rumors you’ve heard are true. Dragon Gate USA and EVOLVE has merged with Ring of Honor under new ownership. The owner wishes to remain out of the public eye, but I’ve had several meetings with him and I can tell you the one thing you need to know about him: He’s a lifelong and passionate wrestling fan who is full of energy and excitement for what the future has in store for everyone within the company. He’s asked me to make this video to explain and clarify a few things about Evolution of Honor Wrestling.

The first is the roster. I’ve gotten countless calls from former DGUSA/EVOLVE wrestlers about whether they still have jobs, and I’m sure the same can be said about people from ROH. There’s no need to worry; everyone who was a part of those wrestling companies is also under contract with Evolution of Honor Wrestling for the time being. We know the roster is massive, but we’re sure the best will rise to the top. We have to put the wrestlers on notice that they’ll have a chance to impress us, and they better make the most of that opportunity.

However, wrestlers who were mainly associated with Dragon Gate in Japan will be used sparingly. We’ll still have a relationship with the Japanese company, but their talent will be flown in for special appearances.

Also, we’ve reached deals with two of the biggest free agents in pro wrestling. Both DH Smith and John Morrison have been signed to EHW contracts, and everyone here is looking forward to working with them.
Now that the roster is out of the way, it’s time to talk about the debut of Evolution of Honor Wrestling. Evolution of Honor Wrestling will make a major impact with a two-night extravaganza from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City! The shows will take place March 8 and 9, and tickets are on sale now! We’ll announce the cards in the days to come, but we already have some major matches signed.

On the first night, they’ll be a title unification match between the last tag team champions from both companies as the Open the United Gate Champions AR Fox and CIMA will battle ROH World Tag Team Champions Briscoe Brothers to be crowned the first ever EHW Tag Team Champions.

They’ll be another unification match on Night Two, as Open the Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano will go one-on-one with ROH World Champion Kevin Steen to earn the right to be the first ever EHW Champion.

They’ll be more matches announced in the days to come.

Finally, I’m sure you’re all wondering how you’ll be able to watch these shows. Well, the answer is easy. The two-night extravaganza, as well as all EHW shows afterward, will be aired right here on YouTube for free! We’ve reached an agreement with the video streaming company to stream all events live, and then they’ll be added immediately after the show for on demand viewing. The best news is that it is completely free of charge for the viewers! We would like to thank YouTube for the partnership and we’re looking forward to bringing you, the fans, many great shows.

Thank you for watching this video and we’ll be back soon with match announcements!
That's some major news coming out of the new promotion! They're starting off with a bang with the two-night debut.

The Tag Title Unifcation match is a dream match for some people. AR Fox is one of the best young high-flyers in wrestling today and has unlimited potential. He's been impressive in his short career thus far, and he's just scraped the tip of the iceberg of what he's capable of. His tag partner, CIMA, is a Dragon Gate legend. He's held every title in the company throughout his storied career, and is the reigning Open the Dream Gate Champion, Dragon Gate's most prestigious title.

Their opponents are one of the most iconic teams in professional wrestling in the Briscoe Brothers. Jay and Mark were on the first show almost 11 years ago and have become cornerstones of the ROH. They've held the tag team titles eight times. They will look to pick up where they left off and become the first EHW Tag Team Champions.

The action just gets bigger on Night Two with another title unification match. Open the Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano is one of the most inspiring wrestlers in the world. He has one of the biggest hearts in wrestling and never says never. He has overcome the odds time and time again with his amazing in-ring skills. Whether it's high-flying or mat based, Gargano can do it all.

His competitor may be the most evil man in wrestling in Kevin Steen. Steen is a brawler who does whatever he wants when he wants. He and his faction S.C.U.M. mock authority and don't listen to anyone other than themselves. Steen promised to kill ROH and build a company in his own image. He's already accomplished the first goal, and he'll have the opportunity to fulfill his vision by becoming the first ever EHW Champion.

If the first two matches are any indication, this is a company you will not want to miss.

Interesting idea. I'm by no means an expert on either company, but doesn't Gabe hate ROH? I know he used to run the company, but didn't they have a bitter falling out, causing Gabe to form EVOLVE/DG USA? feel free to correct me if they patched it up or whatever, but that was my main concern upon reading this. If my company was bought out and merged with my rival, to me, that would feel like losing, and I certainly wouldn't want to be the guy being paraded as the media face.

I'm sure Gabe is still a little bitter, but he and Cary Silkin (ROH's ambassador and former owner) have kind of mended fences. I see Gabe as the type to want to be at the forefront of any new wrestling idea, as he has been in the past. And in this fantasy world, both ROH and DGUSA/EVOLVE failed, so I don't think he would mind joining back up with some old faces to create a new company.

Also, there will be match announcements for the first two shows in the coming days.

Evolution of Honor News and Notes

The cards for the two-night debut of Evolution of Honor on March 8 and 9 from the Hammerstein Ballroom are starting to take shape.

Already announced for the shows are two title unification matches. The first night, Open the United Gate Champions AR Fox and CIMA will wrestle ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay and Mark Briscoes, with the winners becoming the first ever EHW Tag Team Champions.

On Night Two, Open the Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano will go one-on-one with ROH World Champion Kevin Steen to earn the right to be crowned the inaugural EHW Champion.

In addition to those matches, and third title match is being added to the weekend. ROH World Television Champion Adam Cole will compete for the right to win the newly created EHW Internet Championship on the second night of the back-to-back shows. Since Dragon Gate/EVOLVE Wrestling didn't have an equivalent title, four wrestlers from both companies will compete on the first night to earn the spot into the next night's match. The four wrestlers are Ricochet and Uhaa Nation from DGUSA/EVOLVE and ACH and Roderick Strong from ROH.

Ricochet is one of the best high-flyers in the business. He has done multiple numerous tours in Japan and has wowed crowds the world over. He has a vast arsenal of aerial moves that will leave you speechless. Uhaa Nation is a young powerhouse who was well on his path to being a breakout star before a knee injury sidelined him for 2012, but he's looking to bounce back with a win in this match. He's built like a tank and can throw other wrestlers around, but he is also surprisingly agile. Nation can do it all and is poised to pick up right where he left off.

ACH stands for athleticism, charisma and heart, and that couldn't describe the wrestler that is ACH more perfectly. ACH is a young up-and-comer who is never afraid to take chances when he has to. His enthusiasm and natural likeability make him a fan favorite wherever he goes. Roderick Strong has been a mainstay in ROH for years and is one of only two Triple Crown winners. He may be arrogant, but he can back it up in the ring with his devastating chops and multitude of backbreakers. It's easy to hate Strong, but he doesn't care whether you like him or not as long as he's winning matches.

Ricochet, Uhaa Nation, ACH and Roderick Strong will compete in a one fall Four Way Freestyle match to determine who faces Adam Cole the next night. The two wrestlers who are not involved in the decision will meet each other on Night Two as well, with the winner receiving a future EHW Internet Championship bout.

Night One will also feature a series of ROH vs DGUSA/EVOLVE matches, which will be for bragging rights and pride among the wrestlers. The participants in these matches will be finalized in the coming days, and we'll complete Night One's card in the next update!

Keep checking in with Evolution of Honor Wrestling and thank you for reading!
