Monday Night Raw – 13th July 2009; Litte Rock, Arkansa
Strike of a Snake
Beginning the show tonight is a recap of the events which happened the week before. The video begins with Randy Orton retaining the WWE Championship in a hard thought battle against Rey Mysterio. The main talking point was what transpired after these two poured their hearts and soul into the match, as The Viper stalked his prey, looking to punt Mysterio’s head off but his intentions were stopped by the return of The Animal, Batista! A former World Heavyweight Champion, Batista cleaned house, clearing the ring of Legacy and then finally putting his former Evolution cohort into the ground with a Batista Bomb – sending a clear message to the WWE Champion.
After the recap of last week, we swiftly shoot into the arena, not bothering tonight with the title video or any pyrotechnic displays, but the fans aren’t worried, they are still screaming their heads off.
***I WALK ALONE***
The crowd gets even louder as THE ANIMAL, BATISTA, walks onto the stage, getting one of the biggest pops of the year! He’s dressed in a plain white t-shirt with a black leather jacket and black jeans covering his bottom half. As the crowd continue to cheer at the sight of Batista, he steadies himself on the ramp, taking in the reaction he’s getting before walking down the rest of the way. As he turns to walk to the steel steps, he slaps a couple of outstretched hands before jogging up the stairs.
Welcome to Monday Night Raw! And right there is the man that returned to save his friend, and to get a piece of Randy Orton last week... The Animal, Batista! I’m Michael Cole, joined as ever by The Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley!
Thank you, Michael. And it’s a great sight to see Batista back in a WWE ring, after the injuries he suffered at the hands of the WWE Champion, Randy Orton last year.
Orton will not be happy that The Animal is back, and you’ll have to think he’ll be gunning for The Viper’s WWE Championship.
We cut to the ring, where Batista is standing in the centre, with a microphone in his hand.
Dammmnnnnn – it feels good to be back!
~ The Arkansa crowd react with a strong pop as Batista begins to walk around the ring, scanning the arena before stopping in the centre again...
Since December of last year... I’ve sat on my ass and watched... (shakes his head)
watched as the WWE Champion, Randy Orton ran riot over Raw.
~ Boos from the crowd which draws a nod from Batista, agreeing with the fans feelings on the subject...
But right now... Randy Orton’s reign as the top dog here on Raw is over! Because The Machine is back! The Animal is back!
~ Huge pop from the fans...
That’s right... I’m back (frowning)
and the first man on my hit list is Randy Orton!
~ Batista has to lower his microphone which allows the fans to begin a very loud “BA-TIS-TA” chant, once it does down The Animal brings the mic back up...
On the fifteen of December, last year, Orton punted me in the head.
~ Heat for that moment...
Orton done to me what he’s done to Superstars like Shawn Michaels, Triple H and The Undertaker.
~ The crowd boo the memory of what The Viper has done to these huge Superstars...
I was out for a couple of months, before I was able to get back in the gym... but when I was cleared, I hit the gym every damn day. (runs his hand over his shaved head)
In the gym every day, gettin’ ready for the moment where I returned.
~ Batista takes his black shades off and attaches them to the collar of his t-shirt...
That moment was last week... and the look on Orton’s face was priceless. The sheer look of terror that I saw told me I made the right decision in comin’ back last week.
~ The crowd agree as they start to cheer...
The fact that Orton is the WWE Champion is only a bonus... y’see... now not only can I get retribution... I can take his WWE Championship away from him!
~ The Animal turns to face the stage...
Batista: (stone faced)
So Orton, I’m challengin’ you right now for the WWE Championship... so either get out here or stay back there and prove to everyone just how much of a bitch you are!
~ The Machine leans on the top rope, arms hanging over it while the fans turn to the stage, in anticipation of seeing the WWE Champion...
Immediately, the Raw crowd rise to their feet and begin to boo very loudly, all of that hate directed at the stage where the WWE Champion, Randy Orton walks out from behind the curtain. Wearing a Legacy t-shirt over his ring gear and the WWE Championship over his shoulder, he has a microphone in his hand and stops at the top of the ramp, looking down at The Animal, already the vein at the side of his head, pulsing.
You should be careful what you wish for, Batista. (begins pacing from left to right on the ramp)
I’ve put you out of action once, Dave, I have no problem doing it again. I have no problem with punting you in the temple one more time.
~ In the ring, Batista grins as Orton continues to pace...
Well... come on then Orton! Come on down and try... I dare you.
~ Big pop as Batista sits down on the second rope, inviting The Viper into the ring but he remains where he is, shaking his head, he’s now stopped pacing...
Everybody knows we were in Evolution together, Dave, and everyone knows you were part of the reason I was kicked out of that group. I’ve dealt with two out of three... Triple H... and Ric Flair... I’ve put Triple H out of action, probably for good and I rid myself of Ric Flair. Now... only you remain.
~ Orton adjusts his WWE Championship on his shoulder, while Batista begins pacing the ring, identical to what The Viper was doing on the ramp...
Do you understand why Triple H and Ric Flair kicked me out instead of you? It was because they saw me as a threat, Batista. They didn’t see you as half the threat that I was. Look at me now... if you thought I was a threat in Evolution... then you are in for a rough couple of weeks here on Raw... before I get rid of the final member of Evolution.
~ The camera closes in on Orton’s face, the vein throbbing again...
I am currently the WWE Champion... and will be for a very... very long time. I am the most dangerous Superstar in the WWE... and the leader of the most dangerous group in the WWE... Legacy.
~ Batista continues to study Orton, waiting for the right moment to interject...
The only reason you were able to do what you did last week... was because I wasn’t prepared for you. You took me by surprise... if I knew you were there... you wouldn’t be standing right now.
~ The Animal shakes his head with a grin...
So you are sayin’... that if you knew I was in the buildin’ last week... I wouldn’t be here tonight?
Randy Orton: (nodding)
That’s right, Dave. I was this close (moves his fingers together) to punting your little friend Mysterio in the head when you took me by surprise. Don’t think for a second... you’d be standing if I knew.
~ Heat for that statement...
Well c’mon then! You know I’m here now, right?! Let’s put it to the test, come down here and try to take me down.
~ Orton takes a step forward, then stops to some heat from the crowd...
Or... you could stay up there and be the bitch that you are! Or... come down here and prove you got some balls!
~ Batista throws the microphone down, and it bounces out of the ring and he then proceeds to take off his leather jacket and throw it to the side, showing off his huge muscles...
On the stage, Orton thinks it over, mulling over his chances before finally taking a step down, and then another which causes the fans to cheer the potential brawl we are about to see. Batista backs off to the opposite ropes, allowing Orton half the ring to slide into it, but instead he takes his sweet time, walking down and climbing up the steel steps.
It appears we’re gonna’ have a fight on our hands ladies and gentleman!
This has been brewing for weeks! Batista and Randy Orton!
Batista bends down into a lower stance, moving forward from the ropes a little, while Orton begins to step through the ropes, leaving his championship on the apron, he looks wary but then fans suddenly start booing...
... as CODY RHODES AND TED DIBIASE HAVE SLID INTO THE RING... BEHIND BATISTA!
The Animal turns around in time to see them, and takes DiBiase down with a clothesline to a huge pop, and backs Rhodes into the corner with multiple punches to the stomach but HE’S BLINDSIDED BY THE WWE CHAMPION... AS ORTON JUMPS ONTO HIS BACK... CLUBBING HIM OVER AND OVER!
Batista manages to turn around while being clubbed by Orton, and succeeds in pushing him away, creating some separation as the crowd cheer the fight back. But as he moves on Orton... Rhodes suddenly hits him with a chop block! Batista lies on one knee, as Legacy surround him, pushing him down to his chest near the corner, and the three men begin stomping on The Animal to mega heat!
This is a mugging, Michael!
Once again Legacy have overpowered their opponent, the sheer number advantage playing a huge part here!
The down pour of heat which is currently going on begins to change to very, very loud cheers and the cameras whirl to the ramp where... REY MYSTERIO IS SPRINTING DOWN TO THE RING!
He’s returning the favour tonight!
The cheers alert Legacy to something that’s not right, so DiBiase turns around to see Mysterio sliding into the ring, he attempts to cut Rey off with a clothesline but Rey ducks it, hits the ropes and hits a tilt-a-whirl headscissors... which propels DiBiase out of the ring!
Orton continues to pound on Batista while Rhodes is next to meet Mysterio, clubbing him in the back, but Rey wheels around and lashes a kick off the shin of Rhodes! Rhodes backs away into the ropes, and Mysterio hits him with a jumping drop kick, sending Cody falling through the ropes!
Randy turns around and sees his cohorts have been dealt with, so with one lasting kick to the stomach of The Animal, he dives to the mat and rolls out of the ring, grabbing his WWE Championship from the apron and backing up the ramp. He’s soon joined by Rhodes and DiBiase, whilst Rey helps Batista to his feet!
It appears that Legacy are running for the hills, they’ve been-
I wouldn’t be so sure, Michael.
Orton and the rest of Legacy begin to talk in a huddle, the WWE Champion being the most vocal while Batista and Rey turn to face them, inviting them back into the ring. And they seem to want to oblige as they take a step back towards the ring...
***THE GREAT GATE OF KIEV***
Legacy turn on their heels to face the stage, where Jerry Lawler
, the Raw General Manager walks out from behind the curtain. He gets a somewhat negative response, more of buzz kill heat but he doesn’t seem to care, he’s focused on what’s transpiring in his arena tonight.
Hold on a minute, guys. Orton, Legacy, stop right there, do not make another step towards that ring.
~ Some heat here as Batista and Rey shake their heads in the ring, they wanted more of Legacy tonight...
You five want to fight? That’s fine, but you’ll do it in a match.
~ Orton cocks his head, mulling over what Jerry might say while the fans are more pleased...
Tonight... in our main event... it will be Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase... taking on the team of Rey Mysterio... (pointing at the ring) and THE ANIMAL... BATISTA!!
~ The Arkansa crowd respond with a massive pop, whilst Mysterio and Batista grin in the ring, Legacy turn to face them, but Orton stays staring at the Raw GM...
But, right now, I want you all out of the ring!
With that Orton turns and faces the ring, the entire group backing up the ramp, watching as Batista leans over the ropes, grinning from ear to ear while Mysterio climbs one of the turnbuckles, pointing at a group of fans below him.
*Backstage – Hallway*
Backstage, the Raw General Manager, Jerry Lawler is walking down a narrow hall way, perhaps on his way to his office when he’s stopped by a trio of Divas, namely Gail Kim, Mickie James & Michelle McCool.
~ The King turns to face the trio, with a smile on his face...
Girls... what can I do for ya’?
~ Gail nods at Mickie who nods at Michelle...
Well... we heard that you need a challenger for Maryse’s Women’s Title?
Yeah, that’s right, Michelle.
Well, we had an idea. Let’s face it, no Diva in the locker room particularly likes Maryse.
~ Mickie pauses while the other two girls nod...
So, um, we had an idea. But uh, could we chat about it somewhere... private?
~ Lawler looks around and sees some workers milling around before turning back to the Divas in front of him...
Uh, yeah sure. Just follow me to my office.
All Three Divas:
~ Lawler leads the way as the foursome walk past the camera man and out of sight...
1 – Mr. Kennedy & MVP vs. Jesse & Festus
The new number one contenders for the World Tag Team Titles faced off tonight against Raw’s newest team, Jesse and Festus after their move from SmackDown over to Raw, but it wasn’t a very successful one for the two loveable chaps.
Kennedy and MVP dominated from the outset, isolating Jesse from his bigger tag team partner, really showing that they can work together as a team. The bulk of the action took place with MVP as the legal man with Festus, showing off his wide array of skills in the ring, but Kennedy got some time in as well to show what he can do.
The fans were behind the number one contenders and Michael Cole done his best to sell the fact that The Monarchy may be underestimating these two as they’re a “random put together team”. But nonetheless, Jesse eventually got the tag to the bigger man, but in the end MVP and Mr. Kennedy were just too good, picking up the victory and showing that they are more than a match for The Monarchy after beating an established team such as Jesse and Festus.
Winners – Mr. Kennedy & MVP @ 4.02
MVP is the man that made the pin and Mr. Kennedy joins him in the ring, and they have their arms raised by the referee, before they each take a turnbuckle.
A solid victory here tonight for MVP and Mr. Kennedy over an established team like that, that’ll no doubt give them a lot of confidence heading into Vengeance in a couple of weeks.
No offence to Jesse and Festus but they aren’t exactly the greatest team we’ve ever had on Raw, Kennedy and Porter will need to up their game if they are to defeat the World Tag Team Champions, Drew McIntyre and Nigel McGuiness.
In the ring, Raw interviewer, Todd Grisham climbs up and into it, microphone in hand and when MVP and Mr. Kennedy see him they walk over, as Grisham gets his question in his mind ready.
First of all, congratulations on your victory here tonight.
~ Fans respond with a good cheer and Kennedy attempts to get their reaction even louder by waving his hand upwards...
How do you feel after winning this match, getting a much needed momentum boost heading towards Vengeance? And a lot of people have been wondering how you can expect to win despite not being an “established” tag team?
~ MVP glances at Kennedy...
Well, for a “random put together team” goin’ up against an “established team” like those two, (turns to Kennedy)
I thought we done a’ight.
Mr. Kennedy: (pulling the mic towards him)
I thought we done pretty good.
... yeah I think they get it. Look, four eyes (laughs from the crowd while Todd looks a tad hurt)
, we’re gettin’ pretty sick of people callin’ us a “random put together team”... it doesn’t matter if we only met each other last week.
~ Todd moves the microphone over to MVP while Kenney puts his hands on his hips...
Y’see... Todd... we’ve known each other since two thousand and...?
~ Kennedy mouths “six”...
Two thousand and six... we know each other’s games inside and out. We have more experience in this ring than The Monarchy do, that’s for damn sure, and we’re gonna’ use all o’ that experience to take those tag titles away from them.
~ Kennedy takes the microphone...
You are lookin’ at the next World Tag Team Titles... you may not believe in us, poindexter, but these people do, ( to the crowd)
ain’t that right?
~ Big pop as MVP scans the fans...
After Vengeance, you better believe that this “random put together team” will become-
~ Suddenly the crowd begin booing which alerts Kennedy and MVP, the duo turn around to see DREW MCINTYRE AND NIGEL MCGUINESS AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RING!
They rush forward, but Drew nails Kennedy with a big boot and down he goes! Meanwhile, Nigel connects with a running clothesline, taking off the head of Porter!
Drew picks Kennedy up and launches him over the top rope, he lands on his feet but the momentum propels him forward into the barricade with a sickening thud! Nigel and Drew turn their full attention to Porter, now that he’s the only man in the ring with them. They pull him to his feet, and Nigel throws him forward into McIntyre’s grasp, who plants him WITH A FUTURE SHOCK DDT!
They’re sending a message right now, Michael!
Drew and Nigel stand over Montel, but turn around when Kennedy re-enters the ring, running forward and trying to take down Drew, but Nigel pulls him off and hits him with a stiff uppercut! Kennedy stumbles back into the corner, leaving his neck exposed to McGuiness, so he grabs it and hoists him up, putting his ankles on the top turnbuckle... NAILING HIM WITH THE TOWER OF LONDON!
Oh! He may have a broken neck, Mick!
It’s obvious hyperbole from Cole but the fans coincide with his worries, pouring heat on the World Tag Team Champions as Nigel stands above Kennedy and Drew is standing over Porter!
This is sick, Mick.
It seems the message has been sent, Michael.
*Backstage – Interview Area*
Renee Young is standing by with one of Raw’s most exciting Superstars, TJ Perkins, who gets a solid pop from the crowd.
Hi! I’m Renee Young, standing by with TJ Perkins. (turns to Perkins)
And TJ, tonight you face the Intercontinental Champion, William Regal, if you win this match then you put yourself right in the championship picture, can you tell me what’s running through your mind as you prepare for this match?
~ TJ thinks it over for a second...
Renee, you’re right... if I defeat Regal then you gotta’ imagine I’ll be at the front of the line for a shot at the title.
~ Renee nods in agreement...
Which means this match is the biggest I’ve had in my short career here. An’ I don’t plan on losin’... I can deal with pressure, and this is as much pressure as you’re gonna’ get. But what’s runnin’ through my mind?
~ TJ scratches his chin...
The fact that I know I can beat Regal... and the fact that I know once I do beat him, I’ll get my first shot at a WWE title. All I can do is go out there and do what I do best. I’m not a bigger talker... I do my best work in that ring, similar to Regal actually... but like I said after I beat him, The Puma will be known as the Intercontinental Champion.
~ All smiles from Perkins...
Well, the WWE universe has certainly taken to you since your debut, and it’s no surprise with your all action strategy in the ring, I hope it pays dividends for you later tonight. Thanks for your time.
~ Renee gets a thankful nod from TJ as he walks off to continue his preparations for the match later tonight...
2 – Non-Title Match
Women’s Champ’ Maryse vs. Sheila Lennox
It’s a fair cry away from the competition she faced last week, and it shows in the Women’s Championship attitude to this match. As she went to lock up with the brunette haired local talent she took a step back before bending down and flipping her hair, drawing heat from the crowd (and some wolf whistles from the men ). Throughout the bout, after each move, the champion took time out to make sure her hair was spotless, and make sure everyone in the arena saw how great she is at everything she does. After toying with her opponent for most of the match, embarrassing her at every opportunity... before finally putting her away with the French TKO!
Winner – Maryse @ 2.45
Without breaking a sweat, the Women’s Champion rolls off Lennox, and stands up, she tells the referee to get away from her as she raises her own hand before playing with her blonde locks.
Damn, this girl loves herself.
She is the current Women’s Champion, and one of the most beautiful Divas we’ve ever had.
Is that why she always ignores you in the hall way?
The French Canadian rips her championship from the clutches of the referee and then walks back over to the corner, bending over () and demanding a microphone from the timekeepers table. He duly obliges and hands it over, nearly having his hand ripped off with the force that she tears it away from him.
What is zis? (pointing at Lennox)
~ Maryse walks over to Lennox and kicks her out of the ring, which draws some heat from the crowd...
Maryse: (re-adjusts the title on her shoulder)
I am ‘ze Undisputed Women’s Champion and I have been for the past month and a half. Nobody... and I mean nobody in ‘zat locker room can beat me.
~ More heat for the arrogant blonde...
Maryse: (turns to the stage)
Let’s run through everyone in ‘zat locker room, shall we? Michelle McCool? I beat her for the Divas Championship. Gail Kim? I defeated her ‘zat Backlash.
~ The champion laughs to herself...
Maryse: (flicking a piece of hair back)
Mickie James? My first night on Raw, I beat her. (turning away from the stage)
Katie Lea? Well... (motions around the arena)
we all know what happened there.
~ She continues to laugh away to herself...
All zese Divas have one thing in common... (smiling seductively)
they couldn’t beat me. And no one will... because I plan on bein’ Undisputed Women’s Champion for a very long time... and no diva past or present will stop-
***THE GREAT GATE OF KIEV***
Contrary to his first interruption of the evening, this time he gets a rousing pop as the Raw General Manager; Jerry Lawler makes his THIRD appearance of the night! Immediately, Maryse turns to the stage, arms out wide, exasperated at the interruption. Lawler, stops on the stage and has a microphone in his hand.
Maryse... as ever... it’s a pleasure to see you.
~ Maryse rolls her eyes...
But uh, that voice of yours was really gratin’ so I had to come out here.
~ Lawler chuckles away to himself while Maryse feigns laughter...
Gettin’ serious here for a minute... earlier on I was in my office, thinkin’ of an opponent for you at Vengeance.
~ Maryse turns away from the stage, facing the hard camera and saying “another lamb to the slaughter” before turning back...
So without further ado... allow me to introduce you to your opponent.
~ Almost immediately, one by one, Gail Kim (pop) ... Michelle McCool (heat)... and Mickie James (who gets the loudest reaction of the three) walk onto the stage, confusion in the eyes of the champion and some of the fans.
~ Maryse laughs a little...
I know... I know... it’s okay Jerry.
~ Jerry puts his arms out at the side, mouthing “what?”...
It’s normal for people at zour age to mix things up.
So... which one of zese Divas am I beatin’ at Vengeance?
... ... At Vengeance... you’ll be facing... (he looks along the line)
every one of them!
~ WHAT?! Huge pop but Maryse’s grin changes in an instant...
That’s right... you’ll be defendin’ that (points at her title)
in a Fatal-Four-Way match!
~ Maryse goes mental in the ring, throwing the microphone down to the ground, and screaming “you can’t do this to me!” but suddenly MICKIE JAMES MAKE A BEELINE FOR THE RING!
The crowd rise to their feet as Mickie slides into the ring, looking to get her hands on the champion... but she gets out of dodge by sliding out the ring and backing away to the announce table!
In the ring, Mickie turns around into a FEROCIOUS CLOTHESLINE FROM MCCOOL!
Heat reigns down on the blonde but not for long as GAIL KIM SLIDES INTO THE RING... AND TAKES MICHELLE OUT WITH A LOW DROP KICK!!
What a drop kick! Michelle’s down!
On the outside, Maryse turns around and SLAPS THE HELL OUT OF THE ANNOUNCE TABLE! Gritting her teeth as she looks at the two announcers.
Was it somethin’ we said?
The action doesn’t end as Maryse skulks her way around the ring, stepping over McCool’s body, as in the ring, while Gail watches the champion go... she’s suddenly spun around and PLANTED WITH A MICK-DDT BY MICKIE JAMES!
This is chaos!
Mickie lets her guard down as she watches Maryse head up the ramp as McCool slides into the ring, the heat accompanying that alerts Mickie who turns around, but gets kicked in the stomach before being hoisted up... and PLANTED WITH THE FAITH BREAKER!
Someone needs to control these Divas!
And the women at the centre of this chaos got out unscathed!
Maryse continues to back up the ramp, while McCool makes the universal motion across her stomach, signalling she wants that title.
Rockin’ Their Way Onto Monday Nights...
They’re About To Rock Your World...
~ COMING VERY SOON ~
Backstage – Batista’s Locker Room
Backstage, Batista is sat on a steel chair, tying the laces of his boots, he gets a massive response from the fans inside the arena and then after a couple of seconds, Rey Mysterio walks into the shot.
~ He pats Batista on the shoulder, gathering his attention and a smile forms of Batista’s face, standing up...
Batista: (hugging Mysterio)
Rey, what’s up? How you doin’?
~ Batista takes a step back, smiling...
I’m good Dave, y’know. What happened las’ week... I uh, I wanna’ thank you.
~ Batista pats Rey on the shoulder...
Don’t worry ‘bout it... I couldn’t let them do to you what they did to me.
Well, I thank you for that. If my kids saw that last week, I-
Batista: (holding his hands up)
Like I said, don’t worry ‘bout it. But hey, I appreciate you helpin’ me earlier on. Seems we’re makin’ a habit out of savin’ each other’s asses. (laughs)
~ Pop from the crowd...
Well, I better go get ready for our match later... see ya’ out there.
~ Rey gets another pat on the shoulder as he turns around, leaving the scene as Batista sits back down to continue lacing his boots up.
*Backstage – Legacy’s Locker Room*
Interestingly enough, we cut straight to Batista and Rey’s opponents, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase sat on two steel chairs as the WWE Champion, Randy Orton paces.
Randy Orton: (punching a locker)
~ Orton stops pacing and rubs his face...
If Mysterio didn’t show his face we’d be done with Batista-
~ Suddenly, Josh Matthews enters the locker room, unannounced and taps The Viper on the shoulder...
~ ORTON WHIRLS AROUND ON HIS HEELS AND GRABS MATTHEWS BY THE COLLAR! The crowd boo as they thrusts him back into the lockers, seething at the interviewer...
Josh Matthews: (looking scared as hell)
Bu- bu- but I’m just trying t- to do my job.
Randy Orton: (throwing Matthews to the side)
I don’t care! Get out!
~ Matthews skulks away, his pride obviously shaken as Orton turns back to his cohort, breathing heavily...
Cody Rhodes: (wearily)
~ Orton looks up as Rhodes stands up...
I got an idea.
~ Ted now stands up, looking at the side of Rhodes’ face...
If we get of the jumpin’ bean, then we get Batista alone, right? Well...
~ Rhodes leans in to Orton, whispering something in his ear with DiBiase looking on. Rhodes backs away once he’s finished...
(looking Cody up and down) That’s... that’s... actually a good idea.
~ A relieved expression appears on Cody’s face...
Care to share?
~ It rhymed ()...
~ Rhodes looks at Orton who nods and then Cody turns to Ted but before he can explain, Orton puts his hand on the camera, pushing it down and we can only see the floor as Orton says...
~ And with that, we cut away as the plan is being revealed to Ted...
***THIS FIRE BURNS***
A thunderous pop greets the arrival of Mr. Money in the Bank, CM Punk, as he walks out onto the stage, wearing black and green ring attire and a “GTS” shirt on. He holds the briefcase in his hand while he surveys the arena before bending down, and checking the time on his invisible watch, before standing up and yelling “it’s clobbering time”! Meanwhile, in the ring, stands Charlie Haas, getting ready for the upcoming match.
The past couple of weeks, we’ve seen the rivalry between Jack Swagger and CM Punk escalate. At first it was about the Money in the Bank briefcase, but because of recent events it has become more personal and-
Whoa! Hold on!
Suddenly boos rain down on the arena as JACK SWAGGER CLOBBERS PUNK FROM BEHIND... SENDING HIM FLYING INTO THE APRON!
Haas’ stays in the centre of the ring, looking on as Swagger climbs on top of Punk and begins to punch him in the head, over and over. He stands up, grab Punk by the head and hurls him INTO THE BARRICADE! The ‘cade nearly moves a couple feet backwards as Punk lands with a thud, the crowd booing the hell out of Swagger.
Did you hear that?!
That was sick, Michael!
Swagger pulls Punk up once again, and this time tries to whip him into the steel steps... BUT PUNK REVERSES... AND SWAGGER RUNS KNEES FIRST INTO THE COLD STEEL! He flips over them and holds onto his knees, the pain searing through his legs as Punk regains his breath while leaning on the barricade. He begins to snarl and curse as he walks up to Swagger, pulling him up and SMASHING HIS HEAD OFF THE ANNOUNCE TABLE!
I think it’s time to make ourselves scarce, Michael!
Indeed you do, Mick, because Punk has just ripped the top of the announce table off! The crowd respond with a massive pop, but Punk turns around to get Swagger but he’s TAKEN OUT... BY SWAGGER SMASHING THE... RING BELL OFF HIS FOREHEAD!
Swagger throws the bell down, and bends down next to Punk, who looks up at him and we see he’s BUSTED open! Blood is pouring down the face of Punk, it’s not as bad as Eddie Guerrero at Judgment Day but it’s damn near similar!
We need to get help out here! Punk’s just been busted open!
Swagger pulls Punk to his feet, but Punk being the fighter that he is, tries to fight back, hitting a couple of punches but then The All American knees him in the stomach. Punk keels over, and Swagger throws him HEAD FIRST INTO THE STEEL POST!
Huge heat is raining down on Swagger but they turn to cheers as CHARLIE HAAS ATTEMPTS TO HELP! He grabs Swagger from behind, pulling him around and going for a punch, but Jack blocks it and hoists Haas up, and RAMS HIS BACK INTO THE SAME POST THAT PUNK GOT THROWN INTO!
Aw, come on!
The heat is huge right now as Swagger grabs Punk, getting blood all over his hands as he pulls him towards the announce table. He grabs a loose cable, and... WRAPS IT AROUND PUNK’S THROAT!
Mick Foley: Come on, Swagger! That’s enough!
Swagger shouts something at Mick along the lines of shut the hell up, but we can’t hear it as the crowd are booing the hell out of him. It’s damn near riot level of heat as Swagger continues to tighten the cable around the throat! After what seems like an age, he finally lets go, the Money in the Bank holder falling to the ground in a heap!
The All American stands over Punk, and keeps yelling “c’mon, Punk!” before pulling him to his feet and bringing him to the front of the announce table. He holds him up, looking into the reddened eyes of his rival, before using his free hand, and wiping it on the forehead of Punk, then rubbing his chest with Punk’s blood!
Swagger seems to have snapped, Michael.
Swagger then suddenly kicks Punk in the stomach and lifts him up...
No! Don’t do this, Jack!
Too late... SWAGGER SLAMS HIM DOWN WITH THE GUTWRENCH POWERBOMB... RIGHT THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE TABLE!!!!
No! Someone get help!
Punk lies in amongst the ruins of the table as Swagger stands above him, blood across his chest and looks around the arena, before soaking in the loudest reaction he’s ever had, before leaving. He looks over his shoulder at Punk as he walks, before stepping over Haas and walking up the ramp as medical staff, Arn Anderson, Ricky Steamboat and the Raw General Manager, Jerry Lawler come running down to check on the battered and bruised Punk.
Wow! I didn’t think Swagger had this in him.
Swagger... what have you done?
Swagger stands on the stage as the medics bend down to help Punk. We then get A LOT of replays of everything that just transpired before we cut back to real time, where Punk is on his feet, albeit with the help of Arn and Ricky, who hold him up, and help him around the ring. He gets a very loud C-M-PUNK chant but he’s too damaged to notice as he’s helped up the ramp.
The video opens in a dark room, a man is standing with a light shining behind him, shadowing his face, but we can tell it’s The Viper, Randy Orton staring at the ground.
Creepy Male Narrator: Vengeance.
Crashing shots of Orton looking up slowly, while interspersed are shots of him punting Vince McMahon in the head, The Viper completes the motion of looking up.

We’re back in the room, we see Orton grinning at the camera, and then he walks past it.
Then we footage of him punting The Animal, Batista in the skull.
Back in the room, an unknown man enters the room, walking in front of the camera, we can’t see the man’s face though.
???: Vengeance will be mine.
~ WWE Vengeance ~
Back from the commercial, we again get some replays of what just happened, before we cut to the announce booth.
Well, I... I don’t know what to say, Mick.
No one does, Michael. These fans are in shock at the things that Jack Swagger just did. But let me tell you something – Jack Swagger may have just made the biggest mistake of his life.
This has gone past Money in the Bank briefcases... this is about rivalry... this is about blood.
*Backstage – Interview Area*
Backstage, Renee Young is standing by with WWE Diva, Melina.
Well, uh, it’s a very strange mood back here after what just transpired, but nonetheless we have a show to get through. So, joining me right now is... Melina.
~ Young turns to the pretty Diva who responds with a smile...
Melina, in two weeks time, you go one on one with Beth Phoenix... in the first ever female Extreme Rules match, can we get your thoughts on that?
~ Melina pauses for a moment, adjusting her hair...
Renee, at Fully Loaded... I went one on one with Beth, (smiles) and I beat her.
But you know Beth, right? (shakes her head) She didn’t take that loss very well... in fact, she attacked by after the match... and she escalated things between me and her. And now... (laughs to herself) and now it’s escalated to the first ever Divas Extreme Rules match.
~ Another pop...
Jerry Lawler wants us to settle our differences... and that’s just what we’re goin’ to do. Beth things she’s the alpha female here on Raw... but what she doesn’t know... is just how extreme... I can be.
~ Evil grin from The A-Lister...
The Pay-Per-View is named Vengeance... how... how apt. Y’see, Renee, I’ve yet to get my Vengeance on Beth yet. Sure... I got a piece of her last week... but that isn’t enough, for the first time ever, the WWE Divas are goin’ Extreme and at the end of the night... only one Diva will be leavin’ that ring, still walkin’.
~ Melina looks dead on at the camera...
And, it isn’t gonna’ be you, Beth.
With that The A-List Diva turns on her heels and leaves the interview area.
3 – Shawn Michaels vs. Wade Barrett
In what was a solid enough match, Shawn Michaels and Wade Barrett battled for seven minutes, with Barrett doing most of the offense, Michaels doing his best to make Barrett look like a million dollars. But it wasn’t always Barrett dominating, in the beginning Michaels took control with a fast paced start, looking to get last week’s loss to The Miz out of his system. He looked to be putting the match to bed before Barrett took control, catching Michaels in mid-air and hitting a Fall-A-Way slam, taking control.
The bulk of the match then took place with Barrett dominating, working over the neck and back of his opponent. Barrett incorporated much of his bare knuckle background style into this match, using his fists as well as showing off a good knowledge of traditional wrestling.
But, in the end, Shawn Michaels began to make a comeback. He fought his way back into the match, getting the crowd fired up and looking to put this match to bed. But suddenly...
*I CAME TO PLAY*
The wrestling came to a standstill, Michaels turned to the stage to see The Miz walk out to a massive batch of heat. With a smug look on his face, he simply stood on the ramp, looking on as Michaels was wondering what he was doing. Michaels then realized he was actually in a match, he turned around but it was right into a Bull Hammer Elbow!
With The Miz grinning, Barrett sunk into the cover, and despite the crowd begging for a kick out, Wade Barrett won the biggest match of his career!
Winner – Wade Barrett @ 7.40
With a helping hand from The Miz in the form of a distraction, Wade Barrett has his hand raised by the referee, soaking in the heat from the crowd, and enjoying his biggest victory yet.
Shawn Michaels had this match won, Mick, he had Barrett on the back foot and if not from the distraction from The Miz, we would’ve had a different outcome here tonight.
I can’t disagree with you there. I thought The Miz and Shawn Michaels were done with each other after what happened last week, but it seems we haven’t seen the last of this rivalry.
Barrett exits the ring and backs up the ramp, while The Miz walks down and jogs up the steel steps, adjusting his suit collar before stepping into the ring and grabbing a microphone.
He kneels down beside the loopy Michaels.
The Miz: (deeply)
Did you think we were done?
~ The Miz shakes his head, looking up at the crowd booing him before turning his attention back to Michaels.
: We’re not done... (slowly)
not by a long shot.
~ Michaels finally opens his eyes, looking up at Miz but he’s doesn’t really know where he is...
Congratulations... you made up with Bret The Hitman Hart.
~ Big pop. The Miz shakes his head...
Last week, you were too pre-occupied with Bret. You had him in your head, and what did he do... he cost you the match.
~ Big heat as the crowd know that it isn’t true...
It came full circle, Shawn. All those years ago, you screwed him... now he screws you. He’s got his closure. But the first thing, I imagine, for you, is knowing that you lost to me.
The man you hate, the man that the whole locker room hates. A kid from Cleveland, not talented enough to be in the wrestling business, a kid that HAS NO RIGHT to be in a WWE ring, right?
~ Miz shakes his head...
The mighty Shawn Michaels, the legendary Heartbreak Kid, got beat by The Miz.
~ Even more heat. Shawn tries to lift his arm to Miz’ face but he swats it away...
Get used to it Shawn, because despite my victory over you last week... I’m not done. It was a little tainted for my taste, just like yours was at Fully Loaded. So... I’m gonna’ beat you again.
~ The Miz grins from ear to ear...
Two weeks time... Vengeance... The Miz versus Shawn Michaels, it’s been cleared by Jerry Lawler... and it’s going to be a best... out of three falls match.
~ The fans don’t really know how to react...
No excuses... for either of us. We’re gonna’ settle this, and at the end of the night, it will be The Miz named as the man that defeated the famous Shawn Michaels on PPV, thus starting my journey to become WWE Champion.
~ Huge heat...
Because I’m The Miz... (standing up) and I’m AWESOMEEEE!
The music of The Awesome One blares out as he stands up, dropping the microphone and grinning down at his opponent at Vengeance. The Miz soaks in the heat he’s getting, before backing away, and exiting the ring, leaving Michaels to recover a little.
4 – Non-Title
I.C Champ. William Regal vs. TJ Perkins
With The Monarchy nowhere in sight, it seemed TJ Perkins had a fair shot at defeating the Intercontinental Champion, William Regal. In the beginning, Perkins used his speed advantage, keeping the larger and slower, Regal, off his game and struggling to get a foothold in the match. Perkins wowed the crowd with some of his high octane offense, and when Regal left the ring to regroup, Perkins done it again, wowing the crowd with a springboard moonsault onto the I.C Champion.
Perkins got a couple of near falls before going for another move from the top rope, looking for a missile drop kick, but Regal was smart enough to dodge it, and then dive on Perkins, keeping him grounded. He utilised many knees, and stiff elbows to the downed TJ Perkins, using his cunning to get back into the match, and get into his game plan. The I.C Champion continued to give TJ some stiff shots, wearing him down as he prepared to end the match.
But as Regal was attempting to do just that, Perkins got a new lease of life, battling back, fighting with all his strength, until he created enough separation to hit a very hard Roundhouse kick to the head. With Regal down and out, TJ hit his standing Corkscrew Moonsault, getting a near fall.
With the crowd groaning at the kick out, TJ went to the top rope, looking to hit the 450 Splash, but suddenly Nigel McGuiness was sprinting down the ramp, hopping onto the apron and drawing the referees attention. And from the crowd, came Drew McIntyre, behind the referee, climbing onto the apron, pushing TJ off the turnbuckle, right onto the mat below. With Nigel still distracting the ref, Drew dropped down, grabbed TJ and hit him with the Future Shock DDT onto the floor!
Drew ducked away as Nigel dropped down, joining him on the other side, with William Regal shouting on the referee to begin counting. He did so, ever so slowly getting up to five, then six, but at seven we saw a bit of movement, eight – TJ tried to prop himself up, nine – to the dismay of the crowd, he fell back down. And the referee counted ten.
Winner – William Regal via Count Out @ 12.58
A huge cry of heat comes from the crowd, while Regal drops to his knees, overreacting to his count out victory here tonight. The referee exits the ring, and grabs the Intercontinental Championship before climbing back in and handing it to Regal who yanks it away. Drew and Nigel, the World Tag Team Champions join Regal in the ring, but then Regal whispers something to Nigel and he exits the ring.
Grabbing Perkins and rolling him back into the ring. He still seems dazed, lying in the centre of the ring with The Monarchy, sans Wade Barrett, surrounding him. He gets up to his knees, looks at Nigel and in spirited fashion says “come on then”.
But he’s smashed from the side, by William Regal who CONNECTS WITH A KNEE TREMBLER!!
Oh, jesus, right to the temple!
TJ is totally out now, lying face down but The Monarchy aren’t finished. Regal motions to Nigel, who walks forward and picks TJ up, but before he can do any damage...
***WRITTEN IN MY FACE***
Despite only debuting a couple of weeks ago, Sheamus gets a massive reaction as HE SPRINTS DOWN THE RAMP... WITH A STEEL PIPE IN HIS HAND!
Here comes help!
He slides into the ring, and swings wildly at McIntyre who ducks, and quickly dives out of the ring. He swings at Nigel but he does the same, ducking and getting the hell out of there. Sheamus turns looking for Regal, but he’s already on the stage, and is soon joined by his Monarchy brethren. Regal holds his Intercontinental Title high in the air, as Sheamus looks on, snarling at the group that beat him to a pulp last week.
Someone needs to get some help from TJ, Mick. He doesn’t look good, not at all.
Sweeping view the Aloha Stadium, basking in sunlight.
We now cut to a beach setting where JTG and Shad are walking down the beach, both dressed in brightly coloured shorts.
Shad: Yo J’ – check out the honey’s around here.
JTG: Man I love Hawaii – j’yeah!
Shad stops in his tracks.
Shad: Hold up, man. Weren’t we supposed to be somewhere?
J’ puts his fingers to his chin, thinking it over, before SmackDown Divas Tiffany and Kelly Kelly walk by in bikinis. Cryme Tyme’s mouth actually drop at the sight.
JTG: Uh, I... I... don’t think so man.
Shad: Nah man, I definitely think we forgot somethin’.
JTG: Oh man, check this guy out.
Shad: Hold up – isn’t that? Aw man. That’s what we forgot.
The camera turns around to see none other than Vince McMahon, strutting up the beach towards the duo. He looks extremely angry, which clashes with the comical element of Vince wearing a full suit on a hot beach.
Vince begins shouting at Cryme Tyme as he walks up the beach.
Vince McMahon: YOU TWO DAMN CRIMINALS. I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU TWO EVERYWHERE!
Vince continues walking, eventually reaching them, the duo hang their heads in shame.
Vince McMahon: Who the hell do you think you are?!
Vince McMahon: SHADUP! Now go, the Aloha Stadium, move it or YOUR FIRRRREEDDDDD!
Cryme Tyme turn on their heels and run up the beach, they start going in slow motion, like the people on Baywatch would. Vince shakes his head and then turns to face the camera. The two Divas appear on the side of the smiling Vince.
Vince McMahon: SummerSlam – the best ending you can think of.
The camera moves up, away from Vince and we are eventually in the sky, where we see The Aloha Stadium again.
Narrator: WWE SummerSlam – a four hour extravaganza. The Summer comes to an end with SummerSlam!
5 – The Colons; Carlito & Primo vs. Cryme Tyme; JTG & Shad
In a short contest, two of Raw’s best tag teams battled it out in a bid to show who was the better team. Primo and Shad started off for their respective teams, and in the early going it was Cryme Tyme taking advantage with Shad using his strength to overpower the smaller man. The crowd were split in their support which made for an awkward dynamic every time someone was tagged in.
At the end of the contest, it was JTG who was the legal man, and Carlito was for his team. They battled after Primo had taken out Shad with a high flying move. JTG and Carlito battled, momentum shifting before JTG finally put the Colon away with Da Shout Out!
Winners – Cryme Tyme @ 6.39
JTG rolls out of the ring, receiving a respectful pop, he falls back onto the steel ramp as Shad makes his way around the ring to join his homie. In the ring however, it’s not as rosey, Carlito is now on his knees, shaking his head, looking down and a bit frustrated. Primo slides into the ring, and tries to help Carlito up... but Carly pushes him away!
With some boos from the crowd, Primo looks at his family member, asking what the problem is. Carlito seems to realize what he just did, and begins to apologise, saying what he did was in the heat of the moment. Primo takes it well, accepting the apology, and the two brothers slap hands and embrace in a MANLY hug.
Well, that was certainly interesting.
Carlito didn’t seem best pleased about the loss, could we be seeing cracks in The Colons?
Back from the commercial...
A booming reaction of heat greets the music of the WWE Champion, Randy Orton
who slowly walks onto the stage, wearing a black Legacy tee, with the WWE Championship hanging from his shoulder. He takes a look around the arena before adjusting the title onto his shoulder and walking on down the ramp. He walks around the ring, and takes a seat on a Steel Chair which was conveniently placed near the announce table.
Main Event – Batista & Rey Mysterio vs. Legacy; Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase w/Randy Orton
The commentators spend the first chunk of the match going over how Orton has been running riot over Raw for the past few months, and if Batista is finally the man that will be able to stop him. They also question what Legacy were talking about backstage in regards to dealing with Rey Mysterio, and then dealing with Batista. Whilst they were talking, some wrestling was, indeed, taking place, and it was Rey Mysterio who was on top of his game, using his speed to get the advantage, and then tagging out to bring in the strength of the tag team.
Orton watched from ringside as his Legacy stable mates were being destroyed by The Animal and his partner. The frustration was growing as he watched, but finally Legacy got a foot hold in the match when DiBiase distracted ‘Tista on the apron, and Rhodes took advantage with a chop block. From there, Legacy utilized quick tags, keeping the big man from his partner, working over his legs.
The WWE Champion continued to watch, growing pleased with what he was seeing, but his delight turned sour as Batista began to fight out of his predicament. He was stuck in the corner when he elbowed Rhodes in the face, then took out DiBiase on the apron. The Animal got fired up, hitting a series of high impact moves before hitting his signature spinebuster, but when he pulled Rhodes up for the Batista Bomb, his leg buckled and down he went.
Rhodes got the tag to his partner, just as Batista got the tag to his, and the two men met in the centre with DiBiase and Rey trading punches and kicks, respectively. This continued for a few minutes, with Rey eventually getting the better of DiBiase, until Rhodes got involved, distracting Rey. Legacy got control of the match again, but it didn’t last long though as Rey used his speed to get away from them and get the hot tag to The Animal.
Seemingly shrugging off his injured leg, Batista ran through everyone in his path, bulldozing through DiBiase and then knocking Rhodes from the apron. The crowd were on fire as Batista was looking to end the match, he hit another spinebuster, and then walked over to the ropes, shaking them, getting the crowd up before turning around... INTO AN RKO!
Winner – Batista & Rey Mysterio via Disqualfication @ 10.33
Despite Batista and Mysterio being named as winners, it’s a very negative response as The Viper stands above The Animal, having just hit his specialised RKO. Rhodes joins him in the ring and begins stomping on Batista, but Orton slaps him on the shoulder and points to Rey. Rhodes makes his way towards the little man, while DiBiase slides into the ring with... with handcuffs?
The crowd immediately begin booing as Orton drags Batista into a corner, and then DiBiase attaches the handcuffs to his arm, and then CUFFS HIM TO THE BOTTOM ROPE!!
He’s... he’s handcuffed!
I don’t like this.
DiBiase and Orton turn around and see Mysterio being thrown into the ring by Cody. He struggles to his knees, and Orton tells DiBiase to leave the ring. The two members of Legacy, grab two steel chairs and slide them over to Orton. Batista seems to be coming too, but he doesn’t realise what is going on.
Orton pulls Mysterio up, he tries to fight, by hitting Orton in the stomach with some weak punches but he’s kneed in the stomach. Orton pushes Rey back, he hits the ropes, and bounces back... RIGHT INTO AN RKO!
The massive impact on the ring alerts Batista to what is going on, he tries to get up and help, but he’s then realized he’s cuffed to the bottom rope. He tries to pull himself free but it’s no use, he has to watch as Orton places a Steel Chair underneath the face of Mysterio!
We need to get some help out here!
Orton glances at Batista, before grabbing the other Steel Chair, and with Rhodes and DiBiase watching from the ramp – raises the chair above his head... one more glance at The Animal... AND BRINGS IT DOWN ON THE BACK OF MYSTERIO’S HEAD!
Oh! That’s sickening!
The heat is indescribable as Orton looks down at Mysterio, as Batista tries violently to break free from the cuffs, but The Viper knows they won’t break so he walks closer to Batista. With his WWE Championship now in his hands, he places it just out of reach of Batista. The last image of the show – Randy Orton, WWE Championship, just out of Batista’s reach.
