|2011 June 6th Edition of Raw |Los Angeles, California|
Monday Night Raw starts with a video showcasing the talent that it has on hand. As soon as Cena's salute on the video is shown, the video ends and we go LIVE! Pyro fills the Staples Center and the crowd is crazy as the commentators welcome us to the show.
Josh Matthews: Welcome everybody, to Monday Night Raw! I'm Josh Matthews alongside my colleagues Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler. With the news of Mr. McMahon making headlines around the WWE, we are in for a different flavor as Raw comes to you tonight from the Staples Center.
Michael Cole: That's right Josh. The Chairman has stepped down for a leave of absence for reasons unknown. Knowing Mr. McMahon, it must've been personal as he hands the WWE over to new management.
King: Well you know what they say guys, the show must go on.
Michael Cole: And so it has King, tonight will be surely excit--
*The Time Is Now* hits and cuts off Michael Cole. Cena, with the WWE Championship on his shoulder, is met with a great ovation from the crowd. No boos can be heard in the arena tonight as the crowd loves Cena. He gives his patented salute to the fans and runs to the ring at full speed. The crowd is pumped and so is Cena. He reaches over the ropes as one of the WWE staff hands him a microphone.
John Cena: Man, we got a great crowd tonight in LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIAAAA!
The crowd loves Cena and cheers even louder and has to signal to quiet down the fans a bit.
John Cena: Now, as you know, Vincent Kennedy McMahon has stepped down from his position as chairman of the WWE. Frankly, I'm a little saddened..(Cena gives a sarcastic sigh) But what the hell! The show is gonna go on without him. He's probably out kissing some ass so that his wife can be some “important” government figure. (Small chuckle from the crowd) On another note, I have this piece of metal on my shoulder..(Raises the title to the crowd delight) and I need a challenger.
*Booyaka 619* plays and the crowd is going crazy! A fan favorite Rey Mysterio has answered Cena's call for a challenger to his WWE Championship. Rey heads down the ramp hi-fiving the people in the first row. He makes his way up the steel steps and does his signature pose on the turnbuckle. He signals for a microphone to address Cena.
Rey: Well John, looks like I don't have to do much of the talking as the crowd just spoke for themselves..(Cena smiles and looks at the fans and they cheer for Rey) But still, I should be the #1 Contender for that title because I've worked hard my whole career. When I was nothing, I worked hard. When I became something, I worked even harder. That's what a true champion is.
*This Fire Burns* plays before Cena could reply to Rey. As soon as Punk's music is heard, the crowd showers him with boos. Punk comes out with a microphone and has a seat on the stage Indian style.
CM Punk: Boys. Boys. Boys. Let's not get our sack in a bunch. I know, you know, everyone knows that I'm the best right now. (Crowd boos Punk heavily) John, If you're looking for a challenger to your title, look no further than CM Punk. I'll gladly take that title off your hands while you go make more colorful shirts for people to waste their money on. And Rey, c'mon Rey. You, a champion? Seriously?
Rey Mysterio: What do you know about being a champion Punk? All you do is talk a big game, and when it comes down to it, you let your little henchmen do the work. SES, NEXUS, what's next? (Punk has a disgruntled look on his face)
John Cena: Doesn't matter who I face. You want some. Come get some! (Crowd cheers)
Lights flicker and the Anonymous GM has made his presence known to the dismay of the Los Angeles crowd. Michael Cole does his usual phrase of I've just received an e-mail from the Anonymous General Manager, And I quote, “Cena, you wanted a #1 contender for your title, so you'll get one. But we just need to have a match to find out who that is. So for tonight's main event it'll be Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk in a #1 Contenders match for the WWE Title. Have fun boys.”
Rey and Punk stare each other down as they are familiar foes. Rey nods his head in agreement as Cena's music hits and Punk exits.
Jack Swagger vs. R-Truth
Swagger comes out first with the United States Championship around his waist. He does his usual entrance with the three push-ups as his pyro fills the arena. Next up is R-Truth who gets major heat from the crowd as Truth makes his way down the ramp talking to himself.
Video vignette plays. The video starts with smoke coming out of an unknown source, later foot steps can be heard and seen. A man appears with a hoodie and appears to be coming out of a sports tunnel where he puts his hood down and thats when highlights of him played doing high flying moves and power moves. But were playing too fast to get a chance to see who he was. Vignette ends with the man saying "I'm Phenomenal."
Raw is back on the air when *I Came To Play* hits the Staples Center. Crowd boos as they see the Miz coming down with his cocky strut. He demands a microphone from ringside and begins talking.
The two competitors lock up as soon as the bell rings. Swagger, with his wrestling background takes the advantage as he scores a takedown on Truth. Swagger backs away from him as Truth gives him a stare.
Josh Matthews: That's Jack Swagger at his finest. The All-American American is truly a great athlete.
Michael Cole: Fair enough Josh, But I wouldn't count out R-Truth just yet.
Back in the ring, Truth has the advantage on Swagger as he delivers a kick to the abdomen. Truth bounces off the ropes and hits a clothesline for a count of 2. Truth then gives repeated elbows as it looks like he's working on Swagger's abdomen.
King: See, that's smart. Taking out a body part will always give you an advantage in the match.
Josh Matthews: Truth looks to be in control despite Swagger's amateur wrestling background.
Just when it looked like Swagger was getting some offense in the match, Truth comes back and hits a spinning elbow on Swagger for the near fall. Swagger finally gets back into the match when Truth missed a splash on Swagger when he was charging the turnbuckle. Swagger rammed Truth's shoulder on the steel ring post. This gave Swagger some time to catch a breather. When Truth was getting up, he tried a clothesline on Swagger but was dodged and countered into a german suplex. With Truth dazed, he again tried to catch Swagger off-guard with the spinning elbows but missed as he fell to the mat and Swagger locked in the Ankle Lock. Truth fought valiantly but eventually tapped out, giving Swagger the victory.
After the match, Swagger's hand was raised and was given back his title. Truth came from behind and attacked Swagger to a chorus of boos from the crowd. Truth pummeled Swagger and was stopped after the referee got control of him. We go into commercial as Truth holds up the US Title, signaling that he's coming for it.
Miz: I know it must be sad for you people to see me not be your champion. But I don't care. I wasn't champion for you people. I was champion for myself..(Crowd boos) Now that I'm not champion, you guys miss it don't you? Now you see that you have taken advantage of me! Well it all doesn't matter. I don't need the title to be AWESOOOMEEE. I don't need you people either. I'm top dog on Raw as it is. And --
*Say It to My Face* plays and out comes Miz's formey lackey, Alex Riley. Riley gets a huge ovation from the crowd as he addresses his former mentor.
Alex Riley: Miz, I get Miz. Now that you've lost to me in many matches, and more to come, you go around saying that it is alright to lose..Because you lost to me! You say you don't need the WWE Championship? Probably because you couldn't win it without my help. (Miz is irate at this point)
Miz: You listen here Riley! I don't need the WWE Championship, it needs me. The title is nothing but a prop unless I'm wearing it!
Anonymous GM chimes in and makes an announcement. Michael Cole gets up to read the e-mail, And I quote, "Miz, you're top dog around here now? Well let's see if you can beat a superstar who has been on a roll as of late, the Dreadlocked Dynamo, Kofi Kingston."*SOS* plays as Kofi comes out and shakes Riley's hand and comes down to the ring.
The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston
Camera shot goes backstage as Todd Grisham introduces his guest at this time, Los Angeles native, John Morrison. Todd asks Morrison if he is sure he'll be able to compete tonight with Dolph Ziggler as it is his first match back from a major injury. Morrison tells him that he's ready and feeling better than ever. Also that he would've come back sooner but under doctor's orders, had to sit out a couple more weeks. He said that he continued to train after those weeks of inactivity. Suddenly, Vickie Guerrero's Excuse Me! could be heard from afar but got louder as she got closer. She welcomes Morrison back in a happy manner. But later she tells John that her business associate is gonna break him in pieces and that John will wish he never came back from that injury.
The irate Miz gets an early advantage on Kofi. Miz shows his vetertan know how as he pummels Kingston, never giving him any time to muster any offense as he knows what Kofi is capable of. Miz shows some power moves as his slams Kofi to the mat and goes for a high risk move. Miz is perched on the top of the rop. Kofi turns around dazed, as Miz looks to deliver a crossbody but is hit with a Kingston dropkick! The referee gets to a count of 7 before either man can get to his feet. Kofi is up first and starts mustering in some offense on the Miz. Miz is met with two consecutive dropkicks and a powerslam by Kofi. Miz is in perfect position so Kofi goes for it, BOOM BOOM, Boom Drop! But only gets a 2 count from the ref. Kingston groans as he has taken a beating from the Miz for the majority of the match. Kofi waits for Miz to stand, when he finally does, Kofi goes for Trouble in Paradise but misses. Miz connects on a clothesline and goes for a submission. Miz rarely gets a submission in but applies one to Kingston. In a Walls of Jericho-kind of submission, Kingston fights to get to the ropes. He gets close but is pulled back by Miz. Kofi finally taps.
King: Wow, the Miz has actually impressed me. Something new we see from Miz, a submission.
Michael Cole: Miz has been impressive eversince Lawler! You were just to blind to see it!
Drew McIntyre runs down to the ring to the crowd's delight as it looks like he's going to pound on the Miz but pounds on Kofi instead as it looks like he has some beef with him. McIntyre leaves after he delivers a devastating FutureShock DDT to Kingston.
John Morrison vs. Dolph Ziggler
Santino is in the back as he gets ready for his tag team match against the Hart Dynasty. He is approached by Gail Kim and Beth Phoenix. It is awkward as Santino and Beth had some history together. He shows them how to do the Cobra. Beth now looks as if she'll deliver the Cobra to Santino but puts her hand down. Maryse passes by and looks at Santino and gives him a hand to the face.
Santino and Kozlov are introduced first. Santino did his 'playing with a trumpet' gag as the crowd loved it, even Kozlov who gave a rare smile. The Hart Dynasty came out next to some heat. They had something to prove as they try and put themselves back on the map and in the Unified Tag Team titles picture.
Dolph Ziggler is announced first as he comes out with his business associate, Vickie Guerrero. Dolph looks focused as he walks down the ramp. He pulls his beach blonde hair back and is making his way up the steel steps. Ziggler runs in place as he warms up for his match. John Morrison comes out tonight as the hometown favorite. He gets the biggest ovation of the night so far. He does his usual slow-motion entrance which gets the Los Angeles crowd even more pumped. Morrison is all smiles as he makes his way down the ramp. He gives away his glasses to a young kid in the first row and his feathery jacket to an attractive young lady near the announce table.
Dolph has a focused look on his face as he clashes with the Shaman of Sexy, John Morrison. The two lock up as Dolph gets the advantage getting behind Morrison. He gets a snapmare on Morrison and some arm drags as Dolph works on Morrison's left arm. Morrison gets to his feet and whips Dolph against the ropes and is greeted by Morrison's heel. Dolph rolls out of the ring to catch a breather as Vickie Guerrero checks on him. We go to commercial.
..Back on Raw we see Dolph working on Morrison outside the ring. Dolph places Morrison's arm across the steel ring post and bounces it off the post. Morrison writhes in pain near the ropes. With this opportunity, Vickie gets near Morrison and slaps him. Dolph is dominant but sees Morrison get to his feet and receives a fame-asser for his efforts. But only to get a count of 2. Dolph whips Morrison to the ropes and performs a back body drop but Morrison lands on his feet and gets a spinning heel kick on Dolph. Both men on the ground, Morrison gets up first at the count of 8 and gains some momentum as he delivers some dropkicks to Ziggler. Dolph was near the ropes and this suckered Morrison into performing Starship Pain. But Dolph gets his knees up and delivers the Zig Zag for the 3 count. Vickie joins Dolph in the ring and raises his hand in victory.
Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. The Hart Dynasty
Camera goes backstage where Rey is in his locker room warming up. Rey has a surprise visitor as Punk walks in. Punk tells Rey to be ready because this match won't be like the other matches they've had in the past. He claimed to have Rey's number and will be having fun beating Rey to become the #1 Contender and going on to win that title. And when he wins the title, he'll make sure Rey never gets the chance to be champion again. Rey smirks and tells Punk to worry about himself as he'll see a new Rey Mysterio on display tonight. Punk has a serious face on before leaving Rey's locker room.
Raw is back on air as Josh, Cole, and Lawler discuss the main event. Cole said that Punk would win easily over a has-been Mysterio. Lawler comes back saying Rey has been an underdog his entire career and finds ways to win and doesn't think that will end tonight. Josh says that although Punk is a tough out, Rey is just as reluctant.
The two teams discuss before the match. Once the rell was rung, it was Kozlov vs. David Hart Smith. Both superstars are powerful as they show their strength with back to back clotheslines on each other. But it was Kozlov who got the early advantage after he just rammed through DH Smith sending him to the outside and us to a commercial.
..Back from the break, Smith is now in control of Kozlov as the replay showed Smith bouncing Kozlov's head against the ring ropes. A tag to Tyson Kidd as Kidd unleashed a variation of kicks on Kozlov causing the Moscow Mauler to have a seat. Tyson Kidd took advantage and delivered a running dropkick to Kozlov. He went for the pin but only got a two count. Kidd tagged Smith back in who began powerslamming Kozlov like crazy. He whipped Kozlov into a corner and performed a superplex from the top rope. But this took out something from Smith as well. The two tagged their partners in, in dramatic fashion as Santino clobbered Kidd. Santino picked up Kidd and slammed him back down on his knee and knocked Kidd down with punches. Santino looked to the crowd as they knew what was coming next, the Cobra! Santino set it up but was blindsided by a boot from Smith. Kozlov tried to make the save but met the same fate with the boot. Smith set up Santino for the Hart Attack as Kidd went up and connected and got the pinfall victory.
*This Fire Burns* CM Punk is out first as he gets to his knees and shouts "It's Clobberin' Time!" The crowd boos him immensely but Punk is all smiles and takes it all in. *Booyaka 619* hits and Mysterio makes his entrance to a huge pop. Rey is dressed in Red, White, and Green wrestling gear as he represents Mexico. His pyro is activated each time he gets to each side of the stage. As he walks down, Rey head bumps with kids who have Mysterio masks. In the ring, Rey does his pose on the turnbuckles. Just when the match was about to begin, *The Time Is Now* plays and Cena is given a defeaning ovation in the Staples Center. The camera zooms into Cena, and says "Don't forget about me" as he walks down the ramp showing off his WWE gold. He has a chair waiting for him near Jerry Lawler and begins to scout the match.
#1 Contenders Match
Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Rey and Punk face off yet again. But this match has a different feel to it as it is for the chance at a WWE Title match. The two stare each other down looking down from head to toe as the bell is rung. Rey, looking for the lockup, gets blindsided by a swift kick to the abdomen by Punk. Punk then begins to land punches on Mysterio's back. Punk whips Rey to the ropes and delivers a straight knee. Punk goes for the cover and gets a 2 count. Punk begins stomping on Rey's abdomen as a cause of his earlier attacks. Punk gives Rey an abdominal stretch which causes Rey to scream in pain. The referee asks if he taps and Rey says no! Rey makes a comeback as he gets to his feet and lands elbows to the side of Punk's head. He bounces off the ropes and gives Punk a hurricanrana that sends Punk to the outside in front of Cena and the announce team as we head to commercial.
..Back on Raw, Rey lands a fury of offensive moves. Rey delivers a dropkick on Punk that gets him to sit down. Rey bounces off the ropes and gets another dropkick delivered right to Punk's jaw. Rey goes for the pin and gets a 2 count. Rey goes to the top rope and goes for a springboard, but Punk ducks and Rey lands the move on the ref instead. Punk tries to take advantage but gets a leg sweep and is in position for the 619. Rey goes for it and connects. He goes for a frog splash, but out of nowhere, Alberto Del Rio comes and pushes Mysterio off! Cena got out of his seat and went after Del Rio. The ref woke up and Punk got up as well. With Mysterio dazed, Punk hits the GTS but didn't stop there as he went for the Anaconda Vise. Rey gives it all he can. He fights, just like he does his entire career, but taps out to Punk's submission maneuver. Punk exits the ring to where Cena's title is and takes it, goes back in the ring, and raises it up high as if it were his own. Cena comes back out to see Punk holding his title. The two mouth off arguments as Raw goes off the air.
