Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel: Special Guests Randy Orton, Batista and Shelton Benjamin
Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome us to the show and Chris Jericho’s music hits as he’s already in the ring. Jericho welcomes everyone to the highlight reel. Jericho talks about last week how Trish Stratus stuck her nose in his business again and cost him the chance of becoming the # 1 contender. He was proud of putting Christian on the shelf but Trish wanted payback and now he’s not going to be facing Chris Benoit for the world title at KOTR. Does that make him mad, yes it did make him mad. He was thinking about getting his hands on that slut but he will deal with her later. Now his mood has changed. He’s in a great mood tonight and the reason for that is that he has some news for all his Jerichoholics. Y2J has qualified for the King of the Ring.
He rolls footage of the live event that took place this weekend as Jericho defeated Rene Dupree by making him tap to the walls of Jericho. Jericho will now go on to face Batista at King of the Ring. Jericho states that in this business he has almost done it all but he has never won the King of the Ring. So now this is a great chance for Y2J to become King. Jericho introduces his guest on the Highlight Reel, first representing Evolution in the tournament are his opponent and the man who he’s going to beat, the animal Batista and the Intercontinental Champion Randy Orton. Orton and Batista come down to the ring.
Jericho tells Batista he will talk to him after he’s done talking to Orton. Jericho first starts saying some nice things about Orton. Jericho has been impressed with Orton, in 2 years he has achieved so much. He’s the longest reigning Intercontinental champion in the last 7 years. He retired Mick Foley. He reminds Orton that they even were on the same team last year at Survivor Series. After achieving all this now Orton wants to become the KOTR. Well Jericho thinks Orton’s the only guy in the tournament that doesn’t deserve to be in it. Orton didn’t like this. He reminds Orton that he almost got beat by Maven who returned to action last week, Orton had to cheat to win. What kind of champion is that? Jericho thinks Maven should have been in the tournament instead.
For the first time in a long time, Orton never used the RKO in his match and it took a cheap win for Orton to qualify. Well Orton got lucky last week but he won’t be so lucky when he meets Shelton Benjamin, the man who beat the legendary Nature Boy Ric Flair to qualify. Orton gets angry and asks Jericho who the hell does he think he is. Orton claims he can beat guys like Maven and Shelton Benjamin any day of the week, they are not even in his league. Orton thinks Chris Jericho isn’t in his league. After Batista is done with Jericho at KOTR, Jericho won’t be running his mouth any longer. Batista then gets on the mic and vows to beat the hell out of Jericho at KOTR and he will go on to win the tournament. Jericho cuts Batista off and tells him to shut the hell up. Jericho starts to stir things up between Orton and Batista
and says things like isn’t Orton the only member of Evolution to hold gold? What if Batista somehow beats Y2J and Orton somehow gets past Shelton, we will get to see an Evolution semi final. What will you do then Batista? Will you lay down for Orton? Or will Orton lay down for Batista? Orton cuts in and he knows what games Jericho’s trying to play. He’s trying to cause problems between Evolution but that’s not going to happen. Orton thinks Jericho is jealous of him. Orton calls himself the greatest Intercontinental Champion ever and he was even a better champion than Jericho. Since Jericho was supposed to have a match tonight but now that he doesn’t have one now, how about we see how good Jericho is by taking on both Evolution members. Jericho says oh you two assclowns are real tough now, taking advantage of a two on one situation. Let me remind you that i have another guest tonight and his name is Shelton Benjamin.
Shelton comes down
and mentions that last week was one of his greatest moments ever when he beat Evolution’s Ric Flair to qualify. He may not have much experience in singles competition but to beat one of the greatest wrestlers ever to qualify shows how much of a threat he can be. He’s been hearing Orton call himself the best but Shelton believes that he can beat Orton. Jericho believes that Shelton can do it, if he can beat the Nature Boy then he certainly believes that Shelton can defeat Orton. If Shelton were to do that, it would be a huge coup. Jericho thinks Shelton is a great athlete, infact we could be seeing Y2J vs Shelton Benjamin in the KOTR Semi Finals. Batista cuts him off and says that is not going to happen because there is no chance Jericho and Shelton will get past the Quarter Finals in the KOTR. Batista tells Shelton, he made an example out of Shelton’s partner Haas last week and at KOTR, Orton will defeat Shelton. He asks Shelton what has he done to warrant a match against Orton at KOTR? A fluke win that’s all? What are his achievements because whatever Shelton has done is nothing compared to what Randy Orton has done. Shelton fires back and mocks Orton for being lucky to get past Maven when Maven had him beat last week. Orton vows to make it up to Flair by teaching Shelton a lesson at KOTR. Not only will he beat him, he will humiliate him. Shelton nails Orton with a right hand and Jericho and Batista also go at it. Eric Bischoff comes down
and tells them to stop right now. Bischoff announces Orton vs Jericho for next week.
He tells Jericho that he’s not going to let Jericho get away with it. He may have qualified for the KOTR but he was advertised to compete tonight. So he wants him to clear the ring of the highlight reel and we are going to have a tag match right now.

Flair reminds Eric how important HHH is to the Raw roster, he’s going to win back his world heavyweight title at KOTR. HHH thanks Eric for putting Benoit in a match next against the 350 pounder A-Train, it’s just to soften him up for the contract signing later on tonight. He knows Vince McMahon is here tonight and wonders why he’s here. Teddy Long approaches Maven backstage. He sees a lot of potential in Maven and wants to manage Maven, he wants to guide him to the top. He asks Maven if he wants to take up his offer? Maven thanks Teddy and told him he’s going to have to think about it. Teddy says anytime playa, holla.
Vince McMahon makes a big announcement for King of the Ring
Vince McMahon’s music hits as he makes another appearance on Raw. Vince McMahon states that he didn’t want to miss the contract signing tonight. He’s going to add a stipulation of his own for the “I Quit Match” later on. He calls out Eric Bischoff to the ring who comes down with Coach and they look concerned. Vince shakes Eric’s hand and asks Eric how is neck is? Eric says he is doing a lot better now but wouldn’t be in this mess if Mr McMahon didn’t put him in charge of Smackdown. He did enjoy taking charge because he made Smackdown’s rating go up, it was the best Smackdown show of the year. Eric complained about Paul Heyman and his actions on Raw and wanted Mr McMahon to take action on Paul Heyman. Coach agreed with Eric and told Vince that Heyman gave him the night off when Coach’s services were needed on Raw. Coach smiles and says he knows why Mr McMahon is out here, he’s going to take action on Paul Heyman. Vince shouts at Coach and tells him to SHUT UP!!!
Coach just stands there in silence. Vince says he is taking no action on the GMS. He believes that they did a fine job and quite enjoyed to see a change of direction for one week only. It shows that he made a great decision. He is out here to make an announcement which relates to both rosters at the King of the Ring. Recently we’ve seen Bischoff and Heyman interacting on the phone, arguing to see which brand is better. Will we have a Raw star winning the tournament or a Smackdown star? Well it’s not just the KOTR tournament which will have bragging rights, he’s come up with another idea, a match he’s decided to make at KOTR. Just when Vince is about to announce the match he gets interrupted by Eugene’s music. Eugene comes down
to the ring and waves at the fans. Eric is not too pleased to see Eugene at this moment because Eugene just interrupted Mr McMahon. Regal’s running behind Eugene trying to stop him and decides to take him back. Vince tells Regal to bring Eugene back in, he wants to meet him. Eric goes to the corner and puts his head down, he just doesn’t know what will happen.
Eugene is really excited to see Vince and imitates his powerwalk. Vince was shocked, Coach starts laughing and Eric covers his face. Vince looks at Coach and berates him and says you think that’s funny Coach. You know what was funny when Eugene beat you in his training exhibition match. Eugene was excited and marks out huge for Vince. Eugene asks Vince isn’t he the guy who got his butt kicked by Eric Bischoff a few years ago. He refers back to the Monday Night Wars. Coach bursts out laughing and Bischoff tried to contain his laughter. You can tell Vince was hot but he controls himself and says yes that was me Eugene. Eugene then asks Vince so howcome Uncle Eric isn’t the owner of this company then? Vince tells Eugene, you may as well find out that answer from your uncle Eric. Come on Eric, why don’t you tell Eugene why you’re not the owner of this company. Eric tries to change the subject and told Regal to take Eugene away but Vince tells Regal to stop right there. Vince heard Eugene’s a big WWE fan and how he wants to become a huge star here. Now that Regal is supervising Eugene, he would like to see Eugene become civilised, he asks Regal could he be able to do that? Regal says he can try but it will take a miracle to civilise this buffoon. Regal pleads with Vince to set him free from Eugene. He doesn’t need this, it’s too much stress. He looks like an idiot running after this miserable specimen. He asks Vince he can serve him and Bischoff in much better ways. Vince makes fun of Regal and reminds him that Regal was the first member to join his special club. Regal says oh no he doesn’t want to go through that again.
Bischoff gets angry with Regal and tells him to apologise to Eugene and Regal apologises to Eugene. Vince McMahon thinks what Regal is doing at the moment is fine because Eugene will become a star because of Regal. Regal may not think like that now but very soon it will be one of the best decisions he’s ever made to take Eugene under his wing. This is why Vince is pleased with Eric Bischoff for coming up with that idea to have Regal supervise Eugene. Vince moves on to his announcement. He is all about giving opportunities and announced that at King of the Ring a 30 man battle royal will take place featuring both brands. The winner will receive a title shot at their brand’s next ppv.
He makes himself clear by stating that if a Raw star wins he would receive an automatic world title shot at the next Raw brand ppv Vengeance. If a Smackdown star wins he would receive an automatic WWE Title shot at next Smackdown brand ppv The Great American Bash. He names Eugene as the first participant in the 30 man battle royal. Eugene gets excited and starts licking Vince bushwhacker style. Vince shouts get him off me and Eric gets Eugene off Vince. Regal explains to Eugene not to do that again. Vince tells Eric he will see him out there later on in the contract signing. Eugene is celebrating in the ring.
Trish meets Lita in the back and tells Lita not to get excited about last week because she got lucky. She’s way better than Lita and Lita is not in her league. Trish makes fun of Lita and tells her that she has poor taste because she now has a new boyfriend and it’s that dork Eugene. Lita says Eugene is not her boyfriend, she made him feel welcome last week when the other divas turned him down. Eugene didn’t have any diva friends but he does now. She didn’t want to break his heart so she teamed with him and embarrassed Trish last week. She mocks Trish and asks how Christian is, oh she forgot that Jericho beat that CLB to put him out of action. Is Trish not the same anymore without Christian? Trish says Jericho may have qualified for the KOTR but she’s not through with him yet. She’s going to do whatever it takes to make sure Jericho doesn’t become the King of the Ring. Trish vows to make a statement tonight and it will first start with Lita. Trish throws water in Lita’s face and delivers a Trish Kick right in Lita’s face. She yells at Lita and says nobody laughs at me.

She’s a 4 times women champion, 3 time babe of the year, raw diva of the decade. She challenges Victoria to a match next week for the womens title in Montreal.

Todd Grisham interviews HBK backstage. Michaels states that since Backlash he’s been banged up but he won’t stop till he gets another opportunity at the title. Michaels has had a grudge with Evolution for quite some time now. A couple of weeks ago he was powerbombed to the floor by Batista. Last week he came so close to getting that rematch against Benoit but HHH used his sledgehammer on him. HHH knew he couldn’t beat HBK so he became desperate for his rematch and that’s why he used the sledgehammer on HBK to win. HBK was pulling for Benoit to embarrass HHH at KOTR. Now HBK has another opportunity and he’s going to superkick 29 guys out the battle royal at KOTR and then he will go on to Vengeance to receive another opportunity at the world heavyweight title. Michaels hoped that he would meet Benoit again to prove that HBK is still the man. Up next he’s going to show Evolution why he’s the showstopper and he’s going to kick Ric Flair’s teeth down his throat.
Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair
The bell rings as both these legends lock up. This match was not that long. Michaels and Flair exchange holds in the early going with HBK coming out on top. Vince McMahon is on the phone to Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff is standing there listening. Paul thinks the battle royal idea is great but he believes that not only a Smackdown star will win KOTR, a Smackdown star will win the battle royal and will headline Smackdown’s Great American Bash ppv. Bischoff cuts in and says if Heyman saw the opening match tonight then he should realise that Raw’s KOTR participants are far superior than the Smackdown participants. They argue and Vince tells them both to stop it. Vince had an idea. In two weeks time on the final Raw show before the KOTR, the Smackdown KOTR participants will be invited to appear on Raw. They will be guests along with the Raw participants on Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel. Then on Smackdown, the Raw participants will feature on Smackdown to compete in a Raw vs Smackdown 8 man tag team match. He asks the GMS what do they think? The GMS thought it was a great idea. Vince tells Paul to watch the contract signing because he's going to add another stipulation to the KOTR tournament, Vince hangs up and up next is the contract signing for the world heavyweight title match.
Contract signing for the world heavyweight title match
Vince McMahon is in the ring with Eric Bischoff. Vince states that it is now time for the KOTR world heavyweight title match contract signing. Bischoff has included another stipulation which he will announce once HHH and Benoit are in the ring. HHH’s music hits as he comes out alone. HHH starts to brag about how good he is. He has finally got his rematch but Vince cuts him off. Vince calls out the world heavyweight champion Chris Benoit. Benoit’s music hits as he comes down to the ring. HHH was furious and looks at Eric but Eric can’t do anything about it. Benoit raises the world title in HHH’s face and places the belt on the table.
HHH looks at it. They stare each other down and McMahon tells them to sit down on their chairs. The mind games already commencing. Vince announces that the winner of the KOTR will automatically receive a heavyweight title shot against their brands champion at SUMMERSLAM
What a huge announcement, just like the previous tournament the tradition is still now on with the winner receiving a title shot at SummerSlam. Will Benoit or HHH be champion by SummerSlam? Bischoff applauded this announcement. Vince then goes over the contract. Both individuals have agreed to a stipulation in this contract, that contract and that stipulation states that it will be a one on one match as Evolution are barred from ringside. Also if HHH loses then he will receive no title shots as long as Chris Benoit is champion. Vince says he wants to see the fans get their money's worth as he wants this match to be a fair contest. Vince says Chris Benoit is for real after proving it at WrestleMania and Backlash. Vince declares that he is adding another stipulation to this,
it’s not just Evolution that are barred. Should anybody else on the RAW roster try to interfere on Triple H or Benoit's behalf, they will receive an automatic suspension without pay for 3 months. Vince asks both men any questions? You can feel the tension here. HHH states before we get down to business he wants to remind Chris Benoit that back in February when he was the world heavyweight champion, they had a contract signing for their WrestleMania match. Benoit felt the pressure but now the pressure has eased and now he has learnt to deal with the pressure. Ever since Benoit won that title, he became a marked man. Benoit felt the pressure for having that target on his back. He’s in the same position as he was but the game does it better.
HHH still believes that Benoit is a one hit wonder. Benoit may have wrestled a one hour match and defeated Shawn Michaels but HHH has also beaten the best. He’s competed in an Iron Man Match and won, he’s the master of the hell in a cell match. He’s even beaten HBK on several occasions. HHH says for the past 2 months Benoit has been bragging about making him tap and thinks he can stand in this ring with the game huh? HHH picks up the world heavyweight title and looks at it and says you see this belt here Benoit, it used to be mine. Once this contract is signed Benoit, you will step into the ring with the game, you will step in the ring with the greatest professional wrestler alive today. You will be in for the biggest beating of your life. It will be the toughest match you’ve ever had. He talked to Eric Bischoff earlier this week on the phone and demanded to know why all the stipulations in this match are going against him? If he loses he gets no more title shots as long as Benoit is champion, well he’s going to make sure that doesn’t happen. Since he’s putting something on the line here, why doesn’t Eric tell Chris the final stipulation for this match. Eric quotes a line from Mr McMahon and states that in the interest of fairness, since HHH is putting something on the line here and there will be no outside interference, if Chris Benoit loses the match he loses his title. He will not only lose his title but he’s done from Raw. HHH has a big smirk on his face. Bischoff explains it clearly, if Benoit loses his title he would have to leave Raw and go back to Smackdown under Paul Heyman’s management.
That’s right the man who made Benoit’s life miserable, a man who despises Benoit will have to work again with Benoit on Smackdown.
Eric asked Chris if he agreed to this. Chris looks at Bischoff and tells him that he better get used to seeing Benoit as champion. The night after KOTR, Bischoff will still see Benoit representing Raw as the world heavyweight champion. Paul Heyman may have made his life miserable on Smackdown but he proved him wrong by moving to Raw and went on to become the world champion. He is not going to be humiliated again. He looks at HHH and told him he made him tap before but now the pressure is on for both of them. If he loses not only does he lose the title, he leaves Raw. If HHH loses, then no more title shots as long as he is champion. This is it HHH, the final encounter. Benoit looks HHH in the eye and told him it took him so long to get to the top and he’s not going to let it go that easy. You said 2 months ago that it takes more than one match to be the best, look at him now, he’s still the world heavyweight champion so currently right now in this business Benoit is the best. For the past 2 months, HHH has been whining and complaining but after KOTR, HHH’s life will change when he looks himself in the mirror and sees that he has no world title around his waist. HHH fires back and states that the world title is his life. Raw is nothing without HHH but Raw can do without Chris Benoit. Once Benoit signs this contract, it is the beginning of the end for Chris Benoit. He’s going to send Benoit back to the minor leagues. He warned Chris that when he signs that paper it will mean the end of his run on Raw. HHH claims that he can beat Benoit one on one and will prove him wrong by winning back what belongs to him and that’s the world heavyweight title. Benoit says he proved at Backlash when he went the distance against HBK that Chris Benoit is for real. He’s proud to stand here in front of these fans as champion, he’s proud to stand in front of these fans because he’s never given up but HHH has. He has earned his way to the top just like HHH has. You can see the tension boiling here as HHH gets in Benoit’s face as they get nose to nose.
Alright gentleman, lets sign these documents and make this official. There it is, HHH and Benoit have signed. Vince says it’s official three weeks from today at the KOTR, HHH vs Chris Benoit in an I Quit Match with so much on the line here.
Chris Benoit’s music hits as he raises the belt over HHH’s face and does his cut throat taunt to mock the game. Benoit goes to raise the belt in the air and looks at the fans. Suddenly HHH grabs his sledgehammer from under the table
and HHH tips over the table. Who could have planted that under the table? McMahon and Bischoff get the hell out of dodge. HHH is about to hit Benoit with the sledgehammer. Benoit ducks, and takes down HHH by his legs and locks in the Sharpshooter on HHH who is yelling in pain about being in the hold. McMahon orders Bischoff to remove the sledgehammer from the ring. Bischoff slides in the ring to remove the sledgehammer and leaves with McMahon. Benoit has the sharpshooter locked in and asks HHH if he quits over and over again. HHH is tapping out but he isn't saying that he quits though. Benoit eventually lets go of the hold and goes outside the ring to get a steel chair, and then out of nowhere Evolution come out and get HHH out of there. Benoit comes into the ring to try to get to HHH who is outside of the ring, but it is like Evolution are blocking Benoit from getting to HHH. Benoit has a chair in his hand and taunts Evolution to get in. Flair, Batista and Orton stand on the apron and Batista gets in first and Benoit nails him with a chair. Orton gets hit with a chair but wait chopblock by Flair and Benoit goes down. HHH is back in and starts hammering away at Benoit. HHH nails Benoit across the head with a steel chair. Flair helps Orton and Batista get back up to their feet. Batista is fuming. Orton sets the table back up. HHH instructs Batista to powerbomb Benoit through the table. Oh no here we go Batista is about to powerbomb Benoit. IF YA SMELLLLLLLLLLLLLL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING .... The Rock’s music hits
