Friday Night Smackdown Preview - Episode #597
January 28th, 2011
US Bank Arena
Cincinnati, Ohio

"It's only smoke and mirrors..."

The final turn before The Road to Wrestlemania officially begins in just two nights time emanates from the great city of Cincinnati, Ohio, and they have a hell of a show lined up for them just two nights before The Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View.

Last week, for the first time since the rivalry began, we saw the World Heavyweight Champion, Edge, finally get the better of his challenger at The Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes. The Dashing number one contender tried to assault Edge after his hard-fought victory over a game Alberto Del Rio, but the wily veteran stood tall as he saw Cody off with stiff strikes and it was almost topped off with a Spear, but the second generation superstar managed to escape. Nevertheless, it was still a victory for Edge as he stood tall with the World Heavyweight Championship to close the show. A sign of things to come in Boston in just over 48 hours? We don't know. What we do know is that due to the attempted attack by Rhodes, Theodore Long has booked Cody in a match against one of the toughest men in wrestling history - The Fighting Irishman, Finlay! If that wasn't enough for the young upstart, Teddy has assigned none other than EDGE has the special guest referee. Teddy Long is taking a risk, putting Cody and Edge in the same ring together, but we highly doubt the fans will mind because fireworks are promised!

With now all of the Smackdown entrants confirmed for the match, Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long has scheduled a huge match for a handful of the entrants. There will be an eight man tag team, pitting eight of the thirteen Smackdown entrants against one another. Rey Mysterio, Big Show, Kofi Kingston and Chris Masters have the unenviable task of facing the foursome of Dolph Ziggler, Kaval, Alberto Del Rio and JTG. With all eight of these clashing personalities in the ring at one time, as well as the desire to build up much-needed momentum ahead of The Rumble Match this Sunday, one thing can be guaranteed - And that is chaos. Who will pick up the victory and head in to The Rumble with a victory?

One of the underdogs in the Royal Rumble, is The Glamazon, Beth Phoenix. Beth already has Royal Rumble experience, entering last year's Rumble match, so this isn't new territory for the dominant diva. In an attempt to build some much needed momentum ahead of The Royal Rumble, Beth has been placed a very difficult task, as she wrestles another Diva that would love some momentum ahead of the Pay-Per-View... The WWE Divas Champion, NATALYA NEIDHART! Although the feud between Natalya and her challenger, Melina, has predominantly taken place on Raw, the Divas division is an interbrand attraction and the Anvilette agreed to show up on Smackdown to take on her good friend, Beth Phoenix. Which Diva will gain steam heading in to Boston? We'll have to wait and see but it promises to be a hard hitting and competitive affair between two of the very best Divas in WWE history.

It isn't often that the WWE Board Of Directors are backed in to a corner, but this week, they have been. The heated rivalry between Trent Barreta and Drew McIntyre has become that personal, that the Board of Directors and Smackdown General Manager, Teddy Long, have been left no choice but to allow the two enemies to duke it out in the main event of tonight's broadcast, in a No Holds Barred match! Last week, the youngster from New York defeated Drew's handpicked opponent, Tyler Reks, to earn himself a measure of revenge against The Chosen One. Since debuting, we've seen the mean streak grow and develop inside of The Sinister Scotsman, but we haven't seen him in uncontrolled circumstances like we will see him in tonight. Many say Trent doesn't stand a chance, but if there's one thing we've learnt about Trent, it's that he refuses to give up, and there's a possibility that his innovative offence and never-say-die attitude may thrive in this environment. Both men are scheduled to wrestle in The Royal Rumble match on Sunday, as well, but for some reason here at WWE.Com, we highly doubt either man will hold back tonight.

All of this, plus the WWE Tag Team Champions, Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov, are scheduled to perform and much much more, only on Friday Night Smackdown!

Confirmed Matches:

No Holds Barred Match - Drew McIntyre vs. Trent Barreta

Cody Rhodes vs. Finlay - Edge as the Special Guest Referee
Eight Man Tag Team Match - Big Show, Chris Masters, Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler, Kaval and JTG
Non-Title Match - Natalya Neidhart vs. Beth Phoenix
Non-Title Match - Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov vs. Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks

Friday Night SmackDown – 12 June – Greensboro, North Carolina

Tonight, SmackDown rolls into North Carolina, Greensboro to be exact. And it is sure to be an explosive show as the road to The Bash heats up.

The current World Heavyweight Champion, Matt Hardy is a North Carolina native but don’t expect the fans to give him a warm welcome home after what he did last week. The champion was instructed to defend his title against the former champion in the main event of the evening. John Cena and Matt Hardy engaged in a verbal confrontation which turned physical, and this continued in the main event when Hardy attacked Cena who was on his way to the ring. The Cold One made sure to make a statement, throwing the former champion into barricades, ring posts and steel steps before finishing him off with a Twist of Hate. How will the former champion react to his beating last week, will he get some measure of revenge or will Matt continue his wave of momentum??

SmackDown has been a very controversial show recently and that may be down to the SmackDown General Manager, Theodore Long. Not one to be bullied, Teddy Long has put the foot down with many Superstars, and these Superstars include the World Champion, former United States Champion R-Truth, Chris Jericho and The Brian Kendrick. All four of these men have aired grievances over Long’s General Management of the brand, with each man complaining of being treated unfairly. R-Truth has had his rematch clause taken away from him, Hardy was forced to defend his title only a few days after he won it, Brian Kendrick is complaining about the amount of shots The Lifeblood of Extreme have been getting at the WWE Tag Team Championships and Chris Jericho just doesn’t like the General Manager. What will happen tonight between the GM and these four Superstars??

Speaking of Chris Jericho, the self proclaimed Best In The World will walk on down to the ring and explain his actions for last week. Jeff Hardy competed against John Morrison in a great match which was marred by the attack by Jericho on Jeff which happened after the match. We do not know why Chris Jericho attacked Hardy, but we could guess that it is because Hardy cost him his chance to become World Heavyweight Champion at Judgment Day.

Last week, Kofi Kingston teamed with the former United States Champion, R-Truth to take on Mike Knox and The Gold Standard, Shelton Benjamin. R-Truth left his partner high and dry despite assuring him he had his back, and Benjamin took total advantage by planting Kingston with PayDirt and getting the three count victory. As a result, Kofi Kingston will defend his championship against The Gold Standard tonight! Meanwhile, with Evan Bourne out of action, Kelly Kelly will have to suffer another week of being dragged around by Mike Knox, and we hope for her sake that she doesn’t annoy The Monstrous Knox.

When The Brian Kendrick aired his grievances to Assistant General Manager, Layla last week, he got himself into a bit of bother when Layla announced he would face off against Gregory Helms, who stepped in to prevent Kendrick getting any more aggressive towards her

Another week, another round of Cruiserweight Tournament matches. Theodore Long has announced John Morrison will face Jesse in another quarter-final while Kaval will face off against Zack Ryder in the final match of the quarter-finals.

Confirmed:

United States Championship:
Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton Benjamin

Cruiserweight Tournament Quarter-Final #3:
Jesse vs. John Morrison

Cruiserweight Tournament Quarter-Final #4:
Kaval vs. Zack Ryder

Singles Match:
Gregory Helms vs. The Brian Kendrick

They will have a final rematch at Genesis, which will be the third and final match in what will be an exciting series of three matches between the two.

Call Out Time

Bobby Roode has been given a mic and been told to start the show Open Fight Night style, as he will be calling out whoever he pleases. It is also likely he will be addressing the recent misfortunes in the company, as he was one of the top faces of the promotion before this recent turn of events.

Tonight, we will see the follow ups of three exciting developments in the TNA world. Not only will we meet the members of Bully Ray's OVW team for one of the biggest tag team matches in TNA history at Genesis, but we will also witness the follow up to the building rivalries between D'Angelo Dinero and Samoa Joe, and Matt Morgan and Abyss.

2013 Royal Rumble Preview
27 January 2013

Every year, The Royal Rumble is where the Road to Wrestlemania begins. And this year, it will be no different, as 30 of the WWE’s finest stars compete in the gruelling royal Rumble match, with the prize being a place in the Wrestlemania main event! But the Royal Rumble match is not the only important event this Sunday. Both World champions will put their gold on the line at the Royal Rumble. Newly crowned champion, Alberto Del Rio attempts to defend his World Title against The big Show in a knockout match. And CM Punk puts his WWE title on the line against the champion of the people, The Rock.

Matches:

WWE Tag Team Titles no1 Contenders Match: The Usos vs Team Rhodes Scholars

Team Rhodes Scholars have spent the past few months chasing after Team Hell No!’s tag team titles. At The Royal Rumble they have a chance to earn one more shot at the gold. Stading in their way however, is the dynamic duo of The Usos.

The Samoan brothers are the twin sons of Rikishi, and have spent the last few years struggling to break out in the WWE. However, they’ve been given a golden opportunity to do just that at the Royal Rumble.

Will The Usos finally get their breakthrough, and earn a shot at the Tag team titles, or will Team Rhodes Scholars get a chance to finally overcome their rivals, Team Hell No!?

WWE Divas Title Match: Eve vs Kaitlyn

After months of cheating to keep the title, Eve is backed into a corner, and Kaitlyn has a chance to finally take what Eve has kept from her for months. Kaitlyn has pinned Eve twice in as many weeks, and if Eve gets disqualified or counted out, Kaitlyn will win the title.
Will Eve find a way to keep clinging on to the Divas championship? Or will Kaitlyn get what she has been seeking her entire career?

World Heavyweight Championship Knockout match: Big Show vs Alberto Del Rio

Two weeks ago, Alberto Del Rio shocked the world on Smackdown, when he defeated Big Show to win the world title in a last man standing match. But can he repeat the feat in a knockout match? The Knockout match is Big Show’s speciality, and a match he has never lost. As The world’s Largest Athlete Pointed out on Smackdown, it’s hard enough to knock someone out, when they’re Big Show’s size, let alone when you could be hit by a knockout blow from a 16 inch fist at any time. However, last Friday Night, Alberto Del Rio laid the Giant out with a stepup ezeguri, proving that he is most definitely in this match.
Will Alberto Del Rio be able to withstand the assault from The Big Show? Or will the power of The world’s Largest Athlete be too much for Del Rio?

WWE Championship: CM Punk vs The Rock

CM Punk reign with the WWE title has lasted nearly four-hundred-and-fifty days. He has fought off challenger after challenger, and constantly defied the odds to keep his title. But this Sunday, he faces a man who he has never faced before. A man who will go down in wrestling history as one of the very best ever in the business... he faces The Rock. The most electrifying man in all of entertainment has sworn to end M Punk reign of terror at the Rumble. On Monday CM Punk claimed that The Rock was no more than Vince McMahon’s pet, and that The People’s Champion stood for everything he despised. Something definitely has to give when these two titans of professional wrestling meet in the ring for the first time ever.

Will Punk overcome even more opposition to his reign? Or will The Rock on his return to the WWE take the title for the first time in over a decade.

The 2013 Royal Rumble Match

This one needs little explanation. 30 men. 90 seconds between each entry. One place in the main event of Wrestlemania up for grabs.

If you’re interested by this, feel free to pop by the WWE 2013 thread to see if it’s up. If you’re waiting, why not leave a prediction.

EDIT: The Show is up!

Friday Night Smackdown Preview
30th September 2011
Bryce Jordan Center – University Park, Pennsylvania

Just two days ahead of the ground-breaking Hell in a Cell Pay-Per-View where the Smackdown brand is going to be represented very well, the blue brand rolls into the Bryce Jordan Center for what looks like an explosive show!

Mark Henry has been World Heavyweight Champion for 12 days now after triumphing over five of Smackdown's best at Night of Champions and successfully defending the title against the former champion Randy Orton last week, but in just two days he faces the toughest challenge in this title reign, and possibly his whole career... he is going to step inside Hell in a Cell to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against 'The Celtic Warrior' Sheamus. Sheamus earned his shot last week after coming out victorious in a #1 Contender's Triple Threat Match against Wade Barrett and John Morrison to book his date with Henry in New Orleans. These two have been embroiled in a feud for two months - these two have gone through announce tables, ring barricades and THE STAGE at Night of Champions - and it is a huge question whether Hell in a Cell will be able to contain these two behemoths on Sunday. But tonight, what has been billed as their 'Final Confrontation' ahead of this life-changing match, is going to take place. It is going to be one final chance for both of these men to say whatever it is they have to say to the other. It may be down as just a talking segment, but knowing the history between Henry and Sheamus, talking most likely won't be the only thing on the menu.

Another man who secured himself a championship match at Hell in a Cell was the irreplaceable William Regal, who defeated Cody Rhodes in a Non-Title Match up last week to earn himself a shot at Rhodes' Intercontinental Championship in New Orleans... but it didn't go down as smoothly as that. Sin Cara, the man that Rhodes screwed out of the title at Night of Champions ran down to the ring in a critical point of the match where Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase were planning to use the very same method they used on Cara, on Regal this time. Sin Cara's presence caused everyone to get distracted, and once Rhodes had his protective mask off and ready to strike Regal, he turned to admonish Sin Cara... and then turn around into a brass knuckles shot from Regal... which knocked Rhodes out cold, and Regal booked himself a date with 'The Disfigured One' at Hell in a Cell. Understandably, Rhodes isn't best pleased with this turn of events and has requested to open the show to voice his grievances to Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long.

Long was in fact busy over the weekend where he announced that long-time rivals Randy Orton and Wade Barrett were going to face off against each other again at Hell in a Cell, following Orton coming out and executing a sublime RKO to the Englishman following his failed #1 Contender's Match. Some, including Barrett, will call the attack unjustified, but many will believe that there was some reason behind 'The Viper' striking on Barrett following Barrett's comments after Orton failed to defeat Henry for the Title - most notably, referring to Orton repeatedly as 'The Worm'. In a wwe.com exclusive video posted after Raw this past Monday, Barrett appeared to have liberated a camera from WWE staff and he set out a challenge to 'The Worm' tonight. We can only assume that Barrett was referring to Orton, and he wants some of his Hell in a Cell opponent two nights early... if so, that leaves the question; is Orton ready to mix it up in Pennsylvania?

Last week, Daniel Bryan was attacked backstage by Christian and subsequently ruled out of the #1 Contender's Match (and tonight's show) and replaced by John Morrison, much to the chagrin of Captain Charisma. It is reported that Christian has been on the lookout for 'The Prince of Parkour' all day now in the arena, but given Morrison's skills in the stylings of parkour... he could be anywhere. Will Christian find his man?

Also tonight, Fighting for Freedom look to make an impact in their first match on Smackdown against Percy Watson & Titus O'Neill, and Justin Gabriel has the chance to add another win to his resumé... but he will have to knock off the devious Jinder Mahal in order to do so!

Confirmed for Smackdown:

-The Final Confrontation-
Mark Henry - Sheamus

Wade Barrett vs 'The Worm'(?)

Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes to open the show!

Justin Gabriel vs Jinder Mahal

Fighting for Freedom vs Percy Watson & Titus O'Neill

Plus; Christian, William Regal and a very distressed Teddy Long! All on Smackdown!
