The last Smackdown of the 2008 is upon us and after the events of Night of Champions this past Sunday it should be an explosive end to the year.

We saw a new World Heavyweight Champion crowned in highly controversial circumstances when John Cena defeated CM Punk. He owes Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley a big one after the WWE's Executive Vice-President counted a quick fall, something that neither Cena or Punk looked too happy about. It's safe to say that Punk will be gunning for Stephanie yet again, only this time he has every right to be angry, but will that make any difference, and what kind of reception will Cena get as the new champion from the far from welcoming Smackdown locker room? It's going to be a bumpy ride that you simply can't afford to miss.

New WWE Tag Team Champions were also crowned in controversial circumstances after Wade Barrett knocked Paul Burchill out with brass knucks slipped into the ring to him by William Regal, securing Barrett & Drew McIntyre the tag team titles they've set their sights on since arriving on Smackdown earlier this year. Burchill's full time tag team partner, Harry Smith was understandably angry as he & his stand-in, TJ Wilson had to endure seeing The Empire parade with their newly won titles. We understand that they won't have long to settle into their new role as champions as they will be in action this week against Paul London & Brian Kendrick. It'll be a tough test for the new champions as London & Kendrick have been on a roll since they've reunited recently. Could The Empire come back down to earth with a bang?

Matt Sydal & J-Red has no such problems in defending their titles as they overcame Alberto Del Rio-Ramirez & Chavo Guerrero respectively. They will be back in action on the last Smackdown of the calendar year with Red defending the Cruiserweight Championship against Johnny Devine. Sydal won't be putting his United States title on the line though when he competes in a rematch from last week against Dolph Ziggler. Last week Sydal was distracted by Del Rio-Ramirez and the distraction helped Ziggler pick up a victory over the Breakout Star of the Year. Can Sydal end the year on yet another high or will he lose to Ziggler for a second straight week?

Another champion who successfully defended their title Sunday night was Beth Phoenix, overcoming Michelle McCool to retain the diva's title. Surely The Glamazon will be happy to have shut McCool up, and we understand that she too maybe in action this week but it's yet to be confirmed. Having got McCool off her back she shouldn't care less about stepping into the ring after her victory on Sunday evening.

'The Rated-R' Superstar' Edge received a shock last week during his match with John Cena when his brother, Christian returned out of the blue. It was six weeks ago that Edge put Captain Charisma on the shelf after attacking him in the parking lot at the Survivor Series before they were both set to compete in the highly anticipated Team Cena versus Team Punk elimination match. It looked like Christian couldn't wait to get his hands on his brother last week and we hear that he will be at Smackdown this Friday night in West Valley. Make sure you're there to see him.

It sure promises to be an exciting end to 2008 this Friday night. You'd be a fool to miss it!

Confirmed for the Last Smackdown of 2008!

Cruiserweight Championship

J-Red (c) vs. Johnny Devine

Non-Title Match
Matt Sydal vs. Dolph Ziggler

Non-Title Match
Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. The Empire

WWE Friday Night SmackDown
Seattle, Washington; Key Arena

Just five days removed from the biggest WrestleMania in the history of the company, SmackDown returns with the action and drama you love. SmackDown rolls into New Hampshire for the evening where the Hampshire crowd will be treated to a plethora of action with the likes of Jeff Hardy, John Cena, Edge and The Big Show all on the blue side of the WWE.

At WrestleMania XXV, the World Heavyweight Championship at the time, Edge, took part in a triple threat match against his long time rival John Cena and the mammoth Big Show. And with Vickie Guerrero at ringside, you just knew it would be chaotic. In the end, John Cena won the World Heavyweight Championship from Edge, by pinning The Big Show, and thus becoming the World Champion for another time, of which the fans were delighted. In the weeks building up to WrestleMania, The Big Show and Vickie Guerrero were shown to be something more than just friends, distracting Edge from his main goal, defending the World Heavyweight Championship. And now with Vickie Guerrero removed as SmackDown General Manager, Edge won’t be guaranteed a chance to regain the championship. Meanwhile, tonight will be the first time that John Cena will be on SmackDown since being drafted to RAW all the way back in two thousand and five. What will happen between these three on another episode of SmackDown, and what will be of John Cena’s return to his home, Friday Nights?

Matt Hardy finally stepped out of his brother’s shadow at WrestleMania, when he defeated Jeff Hardy in an Extreme Rules match. Jeff, a former World Champion, was pinned by brother after finding out that he was the sole reason that he lost his championship and finding out that he was the person behind all of the things that happened to him, during his championship reign. Such things like being thrown down a flight of stairs, pyrotechnics going off at the wrong time and even a hit and run, which put his own life as well as his girlfriends life in danger. Matt however says he doesn’t care about anything he has done, and tonight we will hear from the hated Hardy, coming off a high because of his WrestleMania moment, he will no doubt be in a good mood tonight.

Another match that took place at WrestleMania was between SmackDown tag team, The Colons, a.k.a Carlito and Primo and the RAW tag team (ECW at the time) The Miz and John Morrison. Both teams are Tag Team Champions, WWE and World Tag Team Champions, respectively. But at WrestleMania, it was The Colons who would prove to be the superior tag team, defeating the cocky and brash team of The Miz and John Morrison. This proved to be a catalyst for what went down on Monday Night RAW between The Miz and Morrison, Carlito and Primo won’t care however because they have to be focused on their match-up for tonight. The Colons will defend their WWE Tag Team Championships against the team of Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder. Former Tag Team Champions in their own right will no doubt prove stiff competition for Carlito and Primo.

One thing we know for definite is that the WWE Divas Championship will be on the line at Backlash, and who will face the current champion, Maryse? We will find out tonight, as Gail Kim faces the Canadian Natalya. Gail is a former WWE Women’s Champion, but has never been WWE Divas Champion; the Japanese Diva returned from a break from wrestling a few weeks back and now has the Divas Championship in her sights. But Natalya is a strong competitor, she has Hart blood in her, trained in the famous Hart Dungeon, she will no doubt want to win that title, not just for her but for her family.

Another championship match will be set up, but instead of Backlash, the fans of SmackDown will be treated to a championship match next week on the blue show. The current United States Champion, Montel Vontavious Porter will no doubt watch with interest, as a Fatal 4 Way will determine his opponent. New to SmackDown, Christian will be looking to get his first win on the brand as he faces off against former United States Champion Shelton Benjamin, R-Truth and The Mexican Warrior Chavo Guerrero. MVP defeated Benjamin to win the belt so Shelton will no doubt want revenge and this is the first step on that path. Chavo meanwhile has lost his way a little bit, but this is his chance to return to his former glory, a former WWE Tag Team Champion and WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Guerrero will try his hardest to get a shot at the United States gold. R-Truth is quite possibly one of the most popular Superstars on Smackdown, with his ‘What’s Up’ routine he has got the fans on his side, and they would love to see him face off against MVP for the WWE United States Championship

All this and more on Friday Night SmackDown; don’t miss it!

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The Colons © vs. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder
Number One Contenders Match; U.S Championship: Chavo Guerrero vs. Christian vs. R-Truth vs. Shelton Benjamin

WWE Friday Night Smackdown Preview- 12/8/05- New Haven; Connecticut

It’s the penultimate stop on the road to Summerslam for the stars of Friday Night Smackdown as we head to New Haven, Connecticut ahead of a blockbuster main event.

Last week saw the WWE Championship match for Summerslam made official as Kurt Angle finally got his wish, a one on one shot at the Doctor of Thuganomics, John Cena. The champion vowed that they would settle their differences come Summerslam, man to man, face to face, something the Wrestling Machine’s been begging for only Angle didn’t opt for that route one week ago as the Olympic Gold Medalist blindsided Cena from behind, proceeding to beat down the champion backstage. Tonight Cena and Angle WILL meet face to face on opposite sides of the ring in tag team action.

Cena and Angle’s partners tonight? Two men who also got physical last week, Randy Orton and The Undertaker. The Deadman returned to action for the first time in over four months as he defeated Chris Masters but it was post match where the Legend Killer struck, delivering a message that he was no longer intimidated, no longer threatened by the mind games of the Phenom before stating that it was his turn to play some games around here. With that the lights went out and Orton took down the Deadman from behind, delivering a thunderous RKO. Orton will team with Kurt Angle tonight, both men having huge momentum but their challengers, the WWE Champion and the Demon of Death Valley will no doubt want payback for what transpired last week.

Also tonight we have learned that kicking off the show will be the debut of a brand new talk show, Carlito’s Cabana. Last week the Apple Spitter picked up another big win, defeating the United States Champion, Matt Hardy in tag team action. Carlito’s first guest on the Cabana? None other than that man himself, the United States Champion. What will Carlito have in store on the debut edition of his very own talk show? And will Matt Hardy look to spoil Carlito’s party?

Last week saw a whole new side emerge to Rob Van Dam as Mr.Friday Night verbally lashed out on both Teddy Long and his friend Rey Mysterio. Long informed Van Dam that his investigation into MNM’s victory at the Bash was closed following security tape evidence that the masked assailant was NOT Melina. Van Dam refused to accept it, claiming he would find the truth out on his own and has now began his own investigation. Well tonight that investigation will be put on hold as Van Dam teams with Rey Mysterio to take on Jamie Noble and Kid Kash, the Pitbulls. Can Van Dam put MNM to the back of his mind? We will find out tonight.

Two weeks ago JBL promised us that he would make an impact following repeated losses in his quest for the WWE title and last week the ‘Wrestling God’ delivered as he viciously assaulted the undefeated Bobby Lashley. Lashley has dominated the competition since arriving on Smackdown and for the first time last week was left floored by Bradshaw’s actions. Will the ‘Real Deal’ have any response to JBL’s assault? Or will the Wall Street Warrior add insult to injury?

All this and much more tonight on Smackdown!!

Confirmed for tonight’s show:

John Cena and The Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle and Randy Orton

Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio vs. The Pitbulls

Kicking off Smackdown, the debut of ‘Carlito’s Cabana’

Preview for upcoming 11/10 show

Matt Hardy defeated the fourth and final opponent from his past two weeks ago so he now has earned his long sought after shot against Raven at Extreme 1. This week, we make it official with a contract signing.

After Shane Douglas announced that The Gangstas would be competing against the F.B.I. and Blk Out at Extreme 1 for the tag team championship #1 contendership, New Jack turned him down, saying he'd rather fight Homicide who he blames for costing The Gangstas a shot at the titles.
