5/11 iMPACT! Preview

It's the last stop before Sacrifice THIS WEEK on iMPACT!

We will hear from the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Christian Cage, three days before he defends his title against 'The Monster' Abyss in Abyss' specialty match, the Monster's Ball match, at Sacrifice!

In a HUGE eight-man tag team main event, 'The Icon' Sting competes on national television for the first time in FIVE years, reuniting his team from Lethal Lockdown as he teams with The Phenomenal Angels and his partner this Sunday at Sacrifice, 'The Samoan Submission Machine' Samoa Joe, to face the NWA World Tag Team Champions, Generation Next's Austin Aries and Roderick Strong, Jeff Jarrett and 'The Alpha Male' Monty Brown, the two men who will face Joe and Sting in three days, despite Brown leaving Planet Jarrett last week!

Also, the World X Cup continues with TWO second-round matches, as Team Canada's Eric Young faces Team USA's Jay Lethal, and Team Japan's Black Tiger IV squares off against Team Mexico's Puma! As it stands, Team Japan and Team USA both have one point, whilst Team Canada and Team Mexico have none, but this week, two points up are up for grabs in both matches. Which teams will receive a boost before the conclusion of the tournament this Sunday at Sacrifice?

Tune in THIS THURSDAY at 11/10c on SPIKE TV!

Re: The BTB Advertisement Thread

~Saturday Night's Main Event~
~2007 King of the Ring Special~
June 2nd, 2007
TD Banknorth Garden; Boston, Massachusetts

~The 2007 King of the Ring Tournament~
The Contenders:

Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson has only been a WWE superstar for a little less than six months, but what an incredible six months it's been. Debuting as the savour of the cruiserweight division and the man who would finally topple Gregory Helms, Danielson impressed everybody from the get-go with his incredible array of submission holds and his phenomenal technical ability in the ring. However, it seemed like Danielson would fail to deliver on the faith placed in him by SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long, as he came up short against Helms at both No Way Out and WrestleMania. But it was at Judgment Day where it finally happened, with Danielson finally winning cruiserweight god, kicking off a new era for the cruiserweight division. Tonight though, Danielson is out to prove that he's more than just a wrestler labelled with weight limit, and that he can mix it with superstars of any shape or size. Having already recorded impressive victories over Santino Marella and Montel Vontavious Porter to make it this far, Danielson is out to again show just how impressive he can be by going all the way and becoming King.

CM Punk

With the demise of the ECW Brand back in December, many wondered what fate would lie ahead for the burgeoning talent that lay in 'The Land of Extreme'. One man who has prospered in these post-extreme times is CM Punk. Since moving to Raw, the youngster from Chicago has gone from strength to strength, forming a partnership with his fellows Straight Edge Saint Nick Dinsmore, as well as becoming the envy of many within the Raw locker room by landing Kelly Kelly as his girlfriend. While Dinsmore came up short in his efforts to qualify, Punk saw off Trevor Murdoch and then Chris Masters to book his place in tonight's tournament. Having been entrusted with spots on Team Linda for the upcoming War Games Match, it seems that Punk and Dinsmore's stock just continues to rise. What better way for Punk to show everyone that the hype is real by becoming King of the Ring?

Gregory Helms

Without doubt, Helms' record setting Crusierweight Championship reign will have him go down in the history books as one of the greatest Cruiserweight Champions in history. But having finally relinquished the belt to Bryan Danielson, Helms now has a different challenge ahead of him: proving he can move up the card and take on all challengers. And what better way of showing that than becoming King? Of course, there is one major challenge Helms has to overcome first, namely a Judgment Day rematch against Danielson. Overcome his greatest foe, and Helms could be well on the way to winning the biggest prize of his career. But given Helms' constant aversion to getting in the ring with the now Cruiserweight Champion, will Helms' chances at becoming King be over before they've even started? Or is tonight the dawning of a new Helms, one who conquers his fears and goes on to become King?

Jeff Hardy

2007 so far has been a contrasting year for The Hardy Boyz. While Matt's career has scaled new heights over on SmackDown, Jeff's career has stalled on Raw, losing his Intercontinental Title at the Royal Rumble, then missing out on Money in the Bank at WrestleMania, before again failing to grab the briefcase at Backlash against Randy Orton. But Jeff's never been one to stay down, and having battled past Hardcore Holly and Charlie Haas to qualify for tonight, no one can question Jeff's heart and desire to set things right. While it may be Matt who's getting all the Hardy attention, don't ever sleep on Jeff, as if there was ever a night to kickstart your career, then it's Saturday Night's Main Event and the 2007 King of the Ring.

Kenny Dykstra

He's cocky, he's arrogant, he's brash, but despite what anyone says about him, Kenny Dykstra is the youngest Intercontinental Champion in WWE history... and he has his eyes set on becoming the youngest King of the Ring in WWE history too. Since becoming Intercontinental Champion back at the Royal Rumble, Dykstra has spent several months trying to make life a misery for Carlito. Not only did he steal Carlito's girl Torrie Wilson at WrestleMania in a heartbreaking double-cross, he's then robbed 'Lito of the gold on several occasions, the latest being just a few weeks ago in a dramatic Ladder Match on Raw. But with his issues with Carlito now firmly behind him, Dykstra has his sights set on showing he's not just the 'The Future of Wrestling', he wants to be 'The King of Wrestling'. And with Torrie by his side and his hired muscle, Ezekiel Jackson behind him, it seems like there's no stopping the youngster in fulfilling his potential by becoming King of the Ring tonight. And after that? Who knows where this young man's career could go?

Matt Hardy

2007 has definitely been Matt Hardy's year. After kicking things off with a gutsy performance in the Royal Rumble, Hardy then booked himself a United States Championship Match at WrestleMania, where he promptly beat Finlay for the gold. Having impressed everyone with his new found focus and passion for the business, Hardy has shown that their may be no limit as to where he winds up when 2007 draws to a close. Tonight though, Matt has his sights set on a Brother vs. Brother showdown in the final, a dream match for many longtime WWE fans. Matt had to overcome tough matches against William Regal and Kane to make it this far, two results that has many people calling Hardy the favourite to go all the way this year. Much like his brother Jeff, Matt has had his fair share of ups and down in his career, but having finally established himself as a major player on Friday nights, it seems like there's nothing stopping Matt walking into Saturday Night's Main Event and becoming the 2007 King of the Ring.

Mr. Kennedy

Well... there may be on thing standing in Matt's way, and that's the potentially epic Quarter Final Match lined up between he and Mr. Kennedy. Kennedy has claimed for months that he's been held down by SmackDown G.M. Teddy Long, robbed of the World Heavyweight Championship on several occasions, that his destiny is as of yet unfulfilled. And for all of the competitors on display tonight, winning the King of the Ring may mean more to Kennedy then other. Tonight provides Kennedy with a chance to finally show he's more than just a loudmouth. Tonight provides him with the chance to show his talent can match his words, that he won't be held down any longer. Of course, it could all be over in the Quarter Finals if Matt Hardy has his way... and just what would Kennedy do then if that scenario were to occur?

Shelton Benjamin

For years he's been labelled as one of the best pure athletes the WWE has ever seen. He's a former Intercontinental Champion, and is one half of the current World Tag Team Champions. But despite Benjamin and Charlie Haas dubbing themselves The World's Greatest Tag Team, neither man has managed to live up to that moniker in singles competition. Tonight though, Shelton has a chance to prove he's not just a tag team specialist by flying solo and becoming King of the Ring. No doubt having Haas in his corner helped as he overcame Super Crazy and Carlito in the qualifying rounds, and he'll no doubt have Haas in his corner again tonight. But for Benjamin, it might be time for him to finally start living up to the reputation he's garnered during his WWE career by proving on the biggest stage that he can indeed survive as a singles compettitor by becoming the King of the Ring.

World Heavyweight Championship Match:
World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Chris Benoit

It was two weeks ago at Judgment Day where Edge shocked us all by becoming World Heavyweight Champion, taking advantage of a massive piece of interference from Umaga to snatch the title from Batista's grasp in a Fatal Four Way Match featuring Mr. Kennedy and Edge's opponent tonight, Chris Benoit. Edge lived up to his nickname as 'The Ultimate Opportunist' that night, and many have argued that if it wasn't for the presence of Umaga, Edge would have already lost the title to Batista on SmackDown. As for Benoit, he's spoken many times these last few months about how this summer may see the end of his illustrious career, with Benoit's body braking down with every passing match. Benoit though has spoken fondly of his desire to become World Heavyweight Champion one last time before he hangs up the boots, and he finally gets the one on one opportunity he's been waiting for tonight. Will Benoit get the fairy tale ending to his career he's been searching for by becoming champion tonight? Or will Edge do what he always does, survive by hook or by crook, and somehow find a way to remain World Heavyweight Champion?

Six Man Special Attraction Tag Team Match:

Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown
WWE Champion Rob Van Dam, John Cena and Ric Flair vs. Batista, Kane and Rey Mysterio

This match was created by the WWE Board of Directors as a way of rewarding fans and giving the people what they want after months of suffering the tyranny of Mr. McMahon's dictatorship on Monday Night Raw. With the battle between Vince and Linda set to come to a head at War Games, tonight presents a chance for the three members of Team Raw to experience a sense of escape from the troubles they've been facing on a weekly basis. While Cena and Flair have been engaged in a constant battle with members of Team Vince, Van Dam has had to deal with the bizarre Shawn Michaels chasing his WWE Championship. The same could also be said for the members of Team SmackDown, all three being very clear that they're doing Teddy Long a favour by representing SmackDown in the hopes that Teddy will all do them favours in the future. Batista is desperate to get his hands on the currently suspended Umaga, Kane is dying for another match with Finlay, one preferably where he can inflict all kinds of pain, while Mysterio already has his wish, getting a guaranteed title match this Friday night against whoever the World Heavyweight Champion is. All six men may have their own issues to deal with right now, but for tonight, it's all about brand pride as Raw and SmackDown go at it.

Carrying a microphone, Punk squats down in the center of the ring, as his theme song dies down. As it’s eventually cut, the reaction picks up in volume around him. “C-M PUNK” chants are indeed audible, but there is a strong cascade of boos enveloping the Bridgestone Arena, too. CM Punk brings the microphone up to his mouth, as the reaction finally simmers down.

CM Punk: Y’know ever since Fatal 4 Way, the “most historic night” in this company’s history, I haven’t exactly the easiest of roads towards this event that’s going to happen on July the 18th...
