Nine nights ahead of the Elimination Chamber PPV, Friday Night SmackDown will continue to build toward the most hellacious event of the year. Monday Night Raw went off the air with CM Punk attacking WWE Champion The Rock at the red carpet premiere of his latest movie, an attack Punk claims should show Rock that there is nothing he will not do to regain the WWE Championship. Punk challenges Rock in a No Disqualification match for the title at Elimination Chamber; what will the Best In The World have in store for the WWE Universe tonight on SmackDown?
Also in play is the latest on the Brock Lesnar / HHH rivalry that has become extremely personal. Lesnar’s well-documented feud with the COO last summer culminated in The Beast breaking Hunter’s arm in a conclusive victory at SummerSlam, but when Lesnar attacked Hunter’s father-in-law Mr McMahon it re-lit a fire under The Game. Triple H returned at the Royal Rumble, striking Lesnar with his infamous sledgehammer. Hunter then challenged Lesnar to a SummerSlam rematch for the upcoming Elimination Chamber event but Paul Heyman rejected the proposal, stating there was no business incentive for his client to take a rematch with a man he’s beaten already. HHH was furious, and declared that he would have to make it personal before dropping Heyman with a Pedigree. Still yet to have his challenge acceoted, The Game will appear on SmackDown. But with HHH’s wife and WWE Executive Stephanie McMahon urging her husband to hang up his boots and concentrate on his business duties, it is sure to be an interesting few weeks.
Dolph Ziggler cashed in his Money In The Bank contract on Randy Orton to end The Viper’s 10th World Title reign just 24 hours after it began. Orton faces Ziggler in his rightful rematch at Elimination Chamber, both men will be in singles action tonight on SmackDown. Events are sure to be watched intently by 2013 Royal Rumble winner Chris Jericho, who faces the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 29.
With both major titles set to be defended in singles matches, the WWE Board Of Directors ordered Raw GM Jerry Lawler and SmackDown GM Booker T to come up with “eye-catching Elimination Chamber matches” for the event. Lawler elected to announce a number one contendership match, with the winner facing the WWE Champion at WrestleMania. A series of qualifying matches were announced: Daniel Bryan defeated Alberto Del Rio and John Cena beat Wade Barrett to take the first two of the six spots. Big Show became the third entrant with a victory on Main Event. Two more spots will be taken tonight on SmackDown, but as yet we do not know who will be in the qualifying matches. This plus Booker T’s Chamber Match announcement will be revealed on the show tonight.
There will also be fall-out after Big E Langston cost Mark Henry a spot in the Chamber. The two goliaths collided in the Royal Rumble match and have spent the following weeks trying to one-up each other. But when Langston cost Henry his match against Big Show, he told the world that Mark Henry is no longer the World’s Strongest Man, and that it was Langston’s time. There are sure to be fireworks as this rivalry continues to escalate.
With just nine nights to go before Elimination Chamber, be sure not to miss this must-see episode of SmackDown.
